Not Sure How I Feel About New Business Model...

None of us (unless theres high level involvement) knows what Coach will or won't do.

Very true. But I have a feeling these are nothing more than rumors. Coach isn't a stupid company, and I find it very unlikely that they would make such a stupid, stupid move.

Not to mention, Coach is a publicly traded company. Crazy changes like this wouldn't fly with shareholders.

I'm a little confused here, and please know that I'm not trying to come across confrontationally at all. In your post, that started this thread, it sounded like sooner or later, the changes you'd posted were on the horizon ... and here it seems to be another message. So is that to say that the business plan listings in post #1 on this thread are rumors or not so much hear-say as "known by people in the know" or____? Thanks for clarifying whatever you can, without possibly crossing wires with your sources. Much obliged.

Ladies, lets remember that the opening post lists future changes that were told to me (and others and they've posted). It seems as some are getting a bit "upset" and that's a bit difficult for me to understand...

1. $498 and lesser priced bags will be factory bags only and no longer sold in boutiques.

2. Less frequent floor sets

3. Less siggy and more leather (more expensive) factory bags

4. Returns must be in person and approved by store manager, the return policy we know now is soon to be eliminated

5. Boutiques will sell pinnacle bags and smalls only, lower priced lines will be factory lines

6. No more PCE

I'm not sure if all of this will take place sooner or later or at all but this is what I've heard from more than one reliable source...

I can't bold the last part on my cell.

I never had a problem with JCP's new format...the prices were very good. I shop for my work clothes there because they have a great selection of petite tops and blouses. My JCP also has an awesome Sephora! No more driving 45 minutes to the next mall to get my skin care.

I like jcp, but I kind of forget it exists now that they don't send out coupons and have sales constantly.

I'm not upset with you. I am upset envisioning how this future Coach model could affect one of my favorite collections/hobbies. I love bags & I have more Coach than anything. No one likes change. :P

^^^Well said and I could ditto that. And just bc I don't want to be misunderstood, I'll post one more time and then will let this rest, as I'd stated I'd do. OP, thanks for the info and I will share that as a COH shareholder (I buy the stocks, not just the stuff) me and DH will be sure to follow the next earnings call. If major changes are coming down the pipeline, I don't care how much they just raised dividends or what the analysts list as the revised yield. I'll be listening for business model info, for sure.

Meanwhile, Happy Mother's Day to all and hope everyone is enjoying the PCE shopping they have left to do!

My SA said that changes are coming, that Coach is aiming to become more of a "Lifestyle" brand. She said that they are going to streamline their inventory as far as bags go, like maybe they just have too much right now that it it could be overwhelming to customers, if that makes sense. She didn't know about the quality/prices of the outlet bags, but she was very surprised when I told her that I had heard the boutiques would only be carrying the high priced bags. She thought that was not likely at all. She also mentioned that PCEs could occur much less frequently or not at all and that they are considering the idea of putting bags on sale, rather than sending them to the outlet. She never said that any of this was set in stone, though.

Actually I love the idea of putting the bags on sale. Why not? Their contemporaries such as Kate Spade and Michael Kors do this. And I have seen bags on sale on the Coach.com international sites. Plus it gives customers a better chance of getting bags at a good price. For example, though my store gets great bags, my local outlet does not. Between PCE and Facebook everyone can get a 25% off coupon so it might as well be a sale. And perhaps less frequent floorsets might give the bags a chance to sell at a decent price before being shipped to the outlets. There was thread on the lifestyle brand before....IMO I think they are biting off more than they can chew and should stick to what they know best.

And what are these "reliable sources"? Coach SAs have been very wrong about things here and there, and I definitely wouldn't count them reliable when it comes to corporate matters like this. They're usually on the bottom of the chain when it comes to finding out this kind of stuff.

Also, I don't see anyone getting "upset". You post things like this, there's bound to be debate, and people expressing their opinions.

I love that idea, too! The very first FP purchase I made was a pair of wedges that were on sale in the boutique. That was about six years ago. Since then, I have never seen an in-store sale. I've seen them on the international sites, too and have wondered why they don't do the same here. I think perhaps the outlet business is very different here than it is internationally? Do they have outlets overseas? I think the lifestyle brand could work, if implemented slowly (not that I know a lot about marketing and such, just relying on my own experience as a consumer). I like their jewelry, shoes, coats, hats, etc. and could see myself buying more in the future.

Yes, there are outlets overseas. I think we have 2 in Australia, and 6-7 FP stores. Coach is also carried at limited David Jones locations. Prices are 2-3x US pricing (and our dollar is stronger Si double ouch.). Outlet prices are ridiculous. None of this 50-65% off - they'll advertise 30% off, then redline the MSRP at that rate, no further discount. However, FP always had a nice sale section. Nice is relative - if I get a sake bag at FP it MIGHT come down to close to US FP!

I do like the look of the sale sections at FP tho. Still looks classy.
