There seems to be enormous variability in the training or expertise required of the salespeople across stores (and possibly, countries).

I've been told ' that's the last one' meaning that the scarf I'm looking at is the last of the design or colourway that they have in stock. I often time my H visits for when there are few other customers in the shop but either way what you've gone through is pretty poor form. Come shopping with me - I'll make 'em give up all the scarves!

Have a BF (***** fit) and WRITE A LETTER.
(sorry white chicks moment)
But yeah, usually, with a rude SA, being rude in return usually works, they're paid to have you be rude to them :) - That sounds bad, but only be rude when they are, try being snooty first, that usually works too.
OR, go to the smiley european SA that can't pronounce your surname properly and seems like a sweet old woman in a good looking womans body.

Duncan - I am catching up with threads and ran across this. This is awful. I too have had varied experiences with Hermes SAs.

I don't think Hermes exercises as much quality control in their SAs as they do their product. I have to say though, most of the SAs that I or my DH have encountered have been fairly nice and patient. Sorry this happened to you. You might want to purchase your scarf from another SA.

At an H store last week, an SA told me not one, but two outright lies. (Note: Anyone who read my post on the bolide, or the updates on this store can put two and two together to figure out which store this is. But the SA referred to here has not been mentioned in any of those posts - only nice SAs were mentioned.)

On the first day of my vacation, SA1 showed me a black bolide w/silver hw, which I loved. I wasn't ready to buy it then, so she told me she would be off the next day but back the day after, (Day 3). On day 2 I went in to look at scarves; SA2 said SA1 would be back tomorrow but showed me some scarves. I picked out one, and was going to buy from SA2 and thought it would be nice with the bolide. Then SA2 offered to show me the bolide again, but when she brought it out, it was black w/ gold hw. When I asked, she said (lie 1) they did not have a black w/ silver hw - so I thought maybe I mis-remembered the color. Then she told me (lie 2) that SA1 would not be back for several days (in direct opposition to what she said earlier). She then tried to pressure me into buying that bolide that evening, saying it might not be there when I come back, since it was the most popular color, size etc., etc. and that SA1 would get credit for the sale. But I did not want black w/ gold hw, and I was concerned about her change of story on SA1, so I left without buying the bolide or the scarf. On Day 3, I went in to see if SA1 had returned. She was there, and showed me the original black bolide w/ silver hw, which I then purchased. I thought about reporting SA2 to the store manager, but gave here the benefit of doubt, plus she did show me a lot of scarves. But it threw a pall on my first purse purchase; if I had listened to her I would have ended up with no bolide.

Sorry to hijack your thread with my story - but it just goes to show there can always be a bad orange in the bunch!

Hello All,
Glad I found this thread, so I wouldn't have to start another. Need to vent, as I'm not sure I can/want to go back to a H boutique any time soon.
My mother was visiting for my DD's birthday, and wanted to take me shopping for my birthday a few weeks ago. She knew I wanted a new twilly and that this would be my first H so we went to the boutique here in town. The SA that "helped" us could not be more condescending and actually looked us up and down when we asked the price (since I knew the price had changed the day before) and I honestly felt like the price she was going to quote was based on her assessment of us. We tried asking her for different recommendations based on the colors I wanted, and we ended up finding things on our own but whenever we had a question, it was like pulling hen's teeth to get an answer. The boutique was empty, and there were other SA's that said hello and seemed friendly, but we finally left after 15 mins.. because we were reduced to feeling like sh*t. I've never been inside the boutique because I was afraid of this very thing happening, and when I finally mustered the courage to go in, this happens.

Is this really typical of H SAs? Has anyone else encountered this, particularly in this boutique? Thanks to Rose and Hermes Nuttynut for naming the scarf I was considering, and I apologize in advance to the Forum, since I would sooner bother you all to distraction with auth. questions than step foot inside the store any time soon.:sos:

Thanks for listening:flowers:

Sorry this has happened to you. I had a similar frosty experience years ago At H but my recent experiences (different SAs) have all been professional, pleasant and very positive, even when I just browsed and didn't buy a thing. (And when I went in to look at the Birkin they had called me about, I was wearing jeans and ratty sneakers because my knee was injured, heels were out of the question, and I needed pants I could fit a brace under). I don't think it matters how much money you spend in any store or what they're selling - people deserve to be treated courteously and professionally. I wouldn't blame you for not wanting to return. But it might be worth going back and dealing with another SA - and if you don't get the kind of service you should expect, to say something to them then and there.

Hi Mistikat! We last spoke in BV - I love the cross-pollination among the boards!
Thank you for validating my reality, but it's sad that this isn't an isolated incident. It will be a while before I go back, but I am greatfull and awed by the graciousness, knowledge and support by everyone on the tPF!

I agree with mistikat that you should try a different SA. It sounds like there were other SA's who were actually friendly. One of my first visits to an H boutique was after I spent some time on this forum. I looked at a red picotin and asked the SA (who seemed very nonchalant about helping me in the first place) which of the Hermes reds this color was. She looked at me like I was an idiot and said "IT'S RED." Then put the bag away. Since then I have been helped by many nice SA's at the same boutique, and one was so attentive that she remembered which scarf made my eyes light up, and made sure my husband bought it for me when he snuck back to buy my Christmas present. Keep going back and look for the SA that makes eye contact and actually smiles in a friendly way.

I would encourage any Hermes lover to try to find a HELPFUL SA if they're going to be shopping at one store in particular. I don't mean that you keep hitting your head against the wall for years in the hopes that someone good will eventually be hired, but a few shots might be worth your while.

I'm in Atlanta, and I used to avoid the branch here like the plaque because of two sales associates who seemed to be in there every blasted time I was at Lenox Square. I was starting to wonder if there were any other associates at all because I couldn't avoid them. It really was THAT bad, and I didn't want to deal with their superior attitude. So I didn't.

I started shopping at Hermes again when I was looking for the horn scarf ring, and THANK YOU GOD, Brittany picked up the phone. She was helpful, she didn't cop an attitude, and she's great about holding/finding things for me. She's a lovely young woman, and I know that I've gone back more often because she's a joy to deal with. Sometimes I have to order online, but I mostly go to the store now, and when they were out of the scarf I wanted last week, she had it sent from Beverly Hills.

IMO EVERY store, low or high end, needs to check the attitude of its sales people because only an idiot manager wouldn't figure out that they're costing the company sales.

I try to check out a H store in which ever country I'm visiting at the time. I've had service ranging from utterly fantastic to downright appalling in the last 5 years. I really boils down to the SA. There's no excuse for treating a potential customer badly. After all, customers are the ones paying their salary, right?

Brennamon, I'm sorry this happened to you. Yes it has happened to me before, but I went back another day and found another SA. Now all the SAs know me, and I just ignore that SA who didn't want to serve me.

Thanks Lyanna! It will be awhile yet, but I appreciate the encouragement:heart:! Shoot, between EBay and the wonderful forum, I may never need to :p...

Ammietwist - I have been in the Atlanta store a few times when visiting family. With one - okay maybe two - exceptions, the SAs have been very nice. Unfortunately, I didn't get the names of the ones who helped me! A young black man in particular was very nice, went to great lengths to help me find the wallet I wanted to buy for my husband. If he is still there I would recommend him - wish I knew his name.
