Not satisfied with Togo...help!

Why eggshells - your thread title talks about not being satisfied with togo, but then your first post had very little to do with that and more to do with the reseller from whom you purchased the bag. People responded in a very neutral way to both of your topics but after you edited out the first and subsequent posts, and simply referred to having to walk on eggshells because of the responses you received, it created a lot of confusion. If the "eggshell" situation was created, and I don't think it was, the deleted/edited posts were what may have caused it. You referring to walking on eggshells makes it seem like your posts were edited or moderated, or that people were in some way negative with you or attacking you, when none of that has happened here. Just something to think about.

Mistikat, in my first post, three out of fourteen sentences were in regards to the re-seller, the remaining 11 sentences were about the leather or questions regarding my purchase overall. I appreciate you trying to mediate, but at this point you are only adding more fuel to the fire. I received enough helpful responses to my post that I do not need to continue in this thread. Your responses to me are partially untrue and slightly antagonistic.

Well, I'm sorry you feel that way. I'm not mediating at all. I, like others commenting here, are just trying to make sense of your first post.

 Darling you are clearly upset. No one is trying to do anything other than help. I fear this thread is only making the situation worse for u and elevating your anxiety. I hope everything works out favorably for you.

All I can see are people trying to help :shrugs:

Obviously when we spend sooooo much money on an H bag we have the expectation it will be perfect in every way. When that bag does not live up to that expectation of course we second guess ourselves.

I'm not a Togo lover and have plenty of bags and SLGs in lots of other different leathers I do like so I'm can't comment on what Togo is supposed to feel like but it's very popular and there must be a good reason for that.

BE is highly sought after colour as we all know

The leather/colour combo together makes it a very covetable bag and to me it doesn't make sense to lose a sizeable chunk of money to return it straight away. If you ever wanted to resell it I'm sure you would recoup a similar amount minus (future) wear depreciation so I'd rather use it for the colour and style and sell if I found something more 'perfect' when the time came (or do a swap).

I haven't purchased a Togo bag in a while, but the last one I considered (during the Great Smelly Bag Crisis) was a very different Togo than the one I remembered from, say 2007-2013. The newer Togo had very small grains, felt thinner, and was matte and dusty in appearance, no sheen at all. This was not "bad," per se, just very different, and might have to do with changes to the types of tanning chemicals now permitted by EU regulations (as the odor issue might also). But it is worth knowing that Togo has changed.

I will continue to love togo as it was my first H love (my first birkin was a delicious chocolate in the most exquisite grain). BUT...with my most recent experience with the slight difference in the leather, it has opened up an interest in pursuing CLEMENCE which I had avoided for no good reason other than I found them slightly heavier.

I have bags in box, Togo and clemence.
One of my Togo bags is from 5 years ago. The other one I purchased last month.
The leather on my most recent Togo bag is beautiful and I don't see a difference from my older bag. The color is rouge grenate so perhaps it might differ depending on the color (?).
Mine isn't ashy or dry in the least.
OP I'm sorry for your experience.

Clemence yields the most beautiful colors!! 💕

I do not know the feel of a sandpaper OP mentioned, but if I had to choose between the above mentioned sheen and weight, a lighter bag would win, because otherwise I will not use my bags as often if my back hurts every time I carry them ...
I would not carry the bag I am not in love with if it costed so much money, it is better to return/resell while it is still new - otherwise one gets no satisfaction of the bag whatsoever...

 Togo... Love the veining and way it looks. I do notice the recent Togo is thinner and more "matte" but don't think it is like sandpaper.. have no issues with the new characteristics. carry smaller bags and while I like some natural slouch I won't like it to be too soft hence have always preferred Togo over clemence and I also prefer smaller grains. One upside of the newer Togo bags I find it looks new for longer plus it's light!

Anyway to OP you have to be comfortable with the bag... Take a look today again if you still cringe at it perhaps you can check with a few resellers what price you can fetch... Good luck!

I thought the same way! My first Hermes bag was the B35 in Clemence and the leather was so soft and buttery. When I got my Togo Kelly, it felt a little dry... I'm hoping it gets better over time but from my two experiences, I do prefer the feel of Clemence over Togo but the love lightness of Togo.

My T stamp togo bag feels very dry and the leather seem thin. Very different from my togo bag that is a few years old.

You know, it is funny, I had a Clemence and Togo, both Black, both Kellys, a few years apart in years of production, and even then I thought Clemence was much nicer and thicker. I had no idea what people meant by the thinner Togo that has been made lately until I felt a friend's T-stamp Birkin, and of course she felt my Ardennes, and we were both shocked at the difference in quality. I didn't even tell her that the older Togo was not as flimsy as the newer Togo.

I have to agree, I would choose Togo over Clemence, and vintage over new any day.

This.
My first Togo b 2012 was thick, rich, and more oiled than the togos that came after. My be b30 last year was darker than the original be and skin feels dusty. Not necessarily a bad thing for me..its lighter and I feel like it's held its shape better than my older togos in the same time-used period.
Certainly very different feeling but it really comes down to preference. I love Togo and can appreciate Togo in all shapes and form. Good luck op.
