Not satisfied with Togo...help!

I purchased a togo birkin from AFF and just received it. I was stunned to be very underwhelmed when I opened it. The leather almost seems inauthentic or just came from a bad batch due to how stiff and dry it feels. It just doesn't have the luxurious leather feel that my Clemence Evelyne or even my Ardennes B. Now, I have never felt Togo in person before so I might just not be used to this, but from what I have read Togo feels soft, and this birkin is anything but soft. The leather almost feels like sandpaper. My heart is crushed.

The return policy is not ideal as I get store credit with $2000 knocked off as a restocking fee and there is nothing else I like on the site currently. I am afraid I am stuck with this bag that I feel is very underwhelming especially for the sky high price I paid. Is togo supposed to be this hard and dry? My Ardennes feels like butter compared to it. The color on the other hand is stunning and the bag does look nice. Would you return for store credit? Or get a few uses out of the bag and eventually re-sell or gift to a family member down the line?

It sounds like you purchased on Lay Away? If so, AFF's return policy is as you stated. HOWEVER, for Sales purchases the Return policy is for refund within 10 days, minus shipping. I think this needs to be clarified as it seems several posters believe that any return has the limited options you described, without having clarified your transaction as being a Lay Away.

I am not here to be stating AFFs return policy for all options, just mine. Thanks for clarifying for other users. AFF has been an EXCELLENT company to work with and I would highly recommend them to anyone! Please don't misconstrue what I am saying to be something that would negatively affect AFF. I think they are exemplary in their customer service and go above and beyond many others.

I'm not entirely sure how you've not been allowed to express your feelings on Togo, I think all the responses you've received have been respectful but not everyone agrees on everything in this forum.

All the leathers are different, people like them for different reasons and thats why they don't use just one type of leather for all bags. Hope you sort it out and I'm sorry you're disappointed with your bag, it looked beautiful but you're the one who has to love it! Best of luck!

Darling we understand your feelings. Don't be upset :hugs:
I know it must be v disappointing... blue electric is amazing. I do have a dear friend who did SO for BE and I recently saw in person. Hers is togo. It is beautiful but I do think it is not as bright as past season BE. It also apprears duller/muted ... I wouldn't say dry. Is this what you see??? I really don't understand the sand paper part though. I know her bag...and my new Kelly are not feeling like dry sand paper. The surface is bumpy and structured but silky to the touch. Not a slouchy, mushy feel. My bag is brand new and stands up like Epsom. Rigid right now. Oh, and mine is black and looks maybe ashy in certain lighting. It's not a bad thing...I'm trying to explain. Maybe like it needs oil on it but it's still black... some thought it was plomb but clearly in my avatar it is black. :flowers:

It's definitely more of a muted and duller color in person than I was expecting. It feels like clemence leather if it had all of the moisture sucked out of it with a bit of shrink on the grains. It is a bit dry in my opinion, but I might just not be used to this leather and am explaining it differently than someone else would. There is no creaminess to it at all, just textured grains and a dry matte feel. I think this is just a mediocre batch of togo and I don't completely love it.

Yes, maybe so. I have a togo gold birkin and don't notice any dryness to it and it is 5 yrs old. This kelly I have is much stiffer and I love it. Maybe she will grow on you....

p.s. BE was available to SO this offering and I chose not to order it bc of how muted the batches seem to be lately. I want POP color. So that may be part of your disappointment. You thought it was POP?

I have already contacted the company. AFF has done everything to rectify this and has gone above and beyond for me. Like I said above, they are an exceptionally run business and I am not meaning to fault them for anything by making this post. I just wanted to be informed on togo leather since it is not at all what I had heard from others or expected.

"I wish you would've reached out to AFF before posting on here, sometimes it makes a difference"

I never said I received disrespectful comments, I just feel that I have to walk on eggshells here because of comments like the one I quoted above. The fact is, I did reach out to AFF, it's the first thing I did. I just would not have received the same valuable responses from AFF that I have from all of you helpful users regarding the differences in togo leather vs other Hermes' leathers.

Seriously, what is the point of this website if I cannot respectfully and politely express my opinion. I find that I have to walk on eggshells here...I just don't get it.

I'd just like to point out that there were no posts removed from this thread and the only posts that were edited were by the OP. This first post I've quoted gives the impression that something or things were said that may have been removed/edited and that is not the case.

I've looked at all of the posts in this thread and as others have said, I haven't seen anything disrespectful at all in response to the unedited first post, not even the comment the OP highlighted. If the issue is with the leather then I too don't quite understand why it was necessary to mention the reseller or their return policy because in the event the OP wants to return the bag I am sure that is something that would be worked out between the buyer and seller and has little to do with a discussion of the qualities of togo.

I'm sure this discussion can continue in the respectful vein in which it's been going.

It was my mistake to ever mention where I received the bag from, I will keep that in mind for future reference. I wanted to mention the return policy because it makes a difference if I keep the bag. If I don't love a bag and can just get a full refund that would be my first option and if that was the case, I would never have come to the forum to post.

On the other hand, store credit and $1500* out of my pocket for a mistake on my end** made me want to rethink whether I should keep the bag and either gift, keep if it grows on me, or re-sell it; getting your opinions can help me solidify my own.

*I overestimated the restocking fee before
**My mistake was buying the bag in the first place without seeing it in person or at least seeing togo leather in person.

Lastly, I do not think anyone has been disrespectful towards me and I always appreciate the respectful and kind tone of the Hermes section in this forum. I do feel like I have to be very very careful with what I say on here though. I didn't mean to cause any friction and I sincerely apologize if I did. In the future I will just use my own judgement on matters such as this or be sure to not mention where I purchase my bags. Thank you all for the help!

Good luck with resolving this; I am still not sure how the return process factors into the thread title/your concern about togo, but I hope you find a bag that you love, with no issues!

I'm sorry that my thread title doesn't include the whole story, I came up with something quick and to the point. I just explained why the return process was mentioned above. This is what I am talking about when I say I have to walk on eggshells here. I am meticulously trying to write out and explain my thought process while trying not to offend anyone or any company, yet, you still have to respond with this. I do hope someone can see where I am coming from in this regard.

Why eggshells - your thread title talks about not being satisfied with togo, but then your first post had very little to do with that and more to do with the reseller from whom you purchased the bag. People responded in a very neutral way to both of your topics but after you edited out the first and subsequent posts, and simply referred to having to walk on eggshells because of the responses you received, it created a lot of confusion. If the "eggshell" situation was created, and I don't think it was, the deleted/edited posts were what may have caused it. You referring to walking on eggshells makes it seem like your posts were edited or moderated, or that people were in some way negative with you or attacking you, when none of that has happened here. Just something to think about.
