Does anyone else feel like this thread used to move so much quicker? Has the sale lost its fervor?

I had the smallest order I've had...ever.

This sold out bracelet on a pop back (it shipped!) https://www.nordstrom.com/s/cubic-zirconia-cuff-bracelet/7303389

Two Pendelton throw pillows (larger and less plump than expected): https://www.nordstrom.com/s/pendleton-palm-canyon-accent-pillow/6022850

And a replacement Natori Feathers braView attachment 5828363

I think that the thread is slower because of a few things. First very few designers are participating in the sale anymore. It's more house brands with a few contemporary brands and very minimal designer brands. They used to have a Burberry scarf every sale, gone. They used to have high end handbags, gone. I remember getting a marc Jacobs quilted handbag for $600ish when it's normally $900. Even the contemporary handbags are mostly gone too.

Certain brands that were sale staples, gone. Like another posters mentioned north face, Patagonia, Tory Burch, ect all gone. I used to stock up on my spanx bras during the sale, they're gone from the sale.

The items in the sale are clearly made for the sale and not the same quality as their non sale counter parts.

They've also had so many blunders both on their IT end with website glitches. Along with their inventory tracking system has seemed to be virtually impossible for customers. In the past I recall being able to see locations near you had an item you wanted. Now it just offers for the item to be available for pickup at the location of your choice by x many days. This year's online glitch let people shop the sale early resulting in items being out of stock before the sale starts. Also the website will state things are out of stock but clearly in stock in store. But the day after the sale ends it's back in stock online. Then they end up with a much steeper discount in a few months after the sale.

I also think that they shot themselves in the foot when they started using influencers to promote the sale. They were given preferential treatment with early access shopping. Then once they are done with promoting the sale they did massive returns of the items that were promoting.

I agree with all of this and I also think that the inventory issues make it really hard for customers to obtain what they want to buy.
I wanted this Joes jeans denim skirt in the largest size and had it on my wish list. it was sold out the very first day (the Icon day) and was *never* available for ambassador early access and completely gone (in the large size) in the public sale. How many of these did they have? 4? It is a $150 skirt.

These are some great points! And a very interesting discussion to liven up the chat too!

I agree the glitches and IT issues are super annoying - the day after the sale ends when everything comes back in stock is SO annoying. And all the pop backs and cancellations and slow shipping. Gah!! On the other hand, I do feel like these issues are a typical part of the sale and a major part of the discussion here (perhaps the thread would even slow down if we didn’t have the glitches and stock issues!)

I honestly am not sure about whether the other changes over time are just appropriate changes (eg, you just don’t see people wearing Burberry scarves and designer stuff as ubiquitously anymore). The younger crowd who set fashion trends are less classic high-end designer and more sustainable/small/start-up/fair trade/price transparent/etc., lately. (Not that classic designers are gone or not cool or whatever, but just that these smaller brands are getting more popular in today’s economic/environmental/political climate compared to years past). This pattern seems to be reflected in the brands that they’ve added to or taken away from NAS over the past couple of years.

I am not an expert on this stuff at all, but I guess it hasn’t seemed weird to me that the brands that are being focused on have changed over the last couple years.

I do disagree that items in the sale are made for the sale across the board (and I’m guessing that you just meant some of the items rather than most/all as it varies so much by brand). A lot of the higher end contemporary items (identical items) are available at other websites for similar prices (including sale prices) - I don’t know that I buy that they are making two versions of all this stuff just for Nordstrom. All brands eventually mark down at steep discounts as the season passes. That is just the fashion cycle isn’t it? If you want a sweater now when it’s new then you’ll pay more then if you wait until it’s not new anymore. Perhaps some things are made for the sale just like they’re made for the rack, but I don’t think it’s the majority of things.

Anyways… fun to think about! Would love to hear more thoughts from others!

The first NAS I shopped they had a medium Chloe Marcie in red or black for I think around $400!

In the last few years of this sale, I bought a pair of Tory Burch boots and North Face jacket for my son. That is disappointing they are no longer part of the sale.

On the pickup and number of days, you can still tell if your location has the item based on the number of days. If it says available for pickup that day, then your store has it. If it says available next day, that means one of the other locations in the area has it. If it's more days than that, it's shipping from somewhere else.

That's a good point, I hadn't thought about the sale changing with the younger generation. I only really got into this sale in the last few years, so I don't know the great deals from years past. Maybe 10 years ago, I remember my coworkers talking about the sale, and I even tagged along once or twice, but I wasn't really into the thrill of the hunt back then. (I don't even recognize that version of me anymore, lol!)

I have a fun little "days of yore" NAS story... back in the 90s, my mom loved Patricia Locke and Judith Jack jewelry, and she would only buy it during NAS. We would go together right when the store opened... and she would brief me on what she wanted, then send me directly to the jewelry counter while she waited nearby. The thought process was, "No one will push a cute kid out of the way if she's looking for jewelry" So I would pick out the pieces and then bring them over to her for final inspection hahaha! It was always so much fun!

All of this! The other thing is that a lot of these styles are repeated. I already have these items in a slightly different form. I don’t need another one. I don’t need it in a different color.

Also, there are not too many special items. They don’t even need to be designer, just special and unique. The few special items sell out.

One other thing I mentioned earlier, a lot of the items that are not Nordstrom brands seem to be repeated designs from last year like the Rails star jacket or the Rag & Bone sweater. If you do a Google Image search on any of them, yes maybe they are a slightly different color, but they were on sale for almost half the price of what they’re selling them for now. Not cool.

Love those pillows!

I think the thread could be slower because many of us are still waiting for our items. I was influencer this year and ordered at 12:01 on the 13th and I have only received 5 items (I ordered over 20).

I went in to another Nordstrom that's about 10 minutes further from me but newer, think next year I may go there first. They seem to have a wider variety of inventory. I returned a couple of things and snagged the corduroy cropped puffer vest, which I never even saw online! I'm due at the end of Oct. so I'm counting on these vests to keep me warm as zipping a coat will not be feasible as it starts to get chilly.

IMG_6746.png

The store also had this Reiss dress in every size and I thought the quality was really nice! I see it pop back and forth, but inventory in stores is certainly different than online (and has encouraged me to get into the store more!) In case anyone was wondering about getting it, I would try, it seemed nice.

I'm hoping to snag the La Mer beauty deal tomorrow w/ the treatment lotion that I’ve used happily for years, but I try every year and am never successful so we'll see lol!

I've never really tried any Eileen Fisher items, however while in store I figured I would check them out and see how the fabrics feel. I feel like they look so much better on than on the hanger!! My store had a size medium of these cotton and hemp pants and I knew it would be too big but I still tried them on anyways, and sure enough I LOVED them even though they were a tad loose. Well, the associate checked her computer and a small was sold out everywhere, however I just got back to my computer 20 mins later and a small popped up online so I ordered it! I'm debating trying out some of the sweaters too, they seem perfect for work.

It’s NAS that got me hooked on Eileen Fisher. It’s certainly not the only place I buy EF but I seem to pick up a few pieces during NAS every year.

On another note, I managed to get buggiewomma my size large Reiss cardigan that I returned back in store today. We had a good laugh on the phone after the sales associate made me wait while she called her to make the purchase lol! The SA thought we were close friends and that we lived near eachother and I had to let her know we are colleagues, I wasn't quite ready to explain how I actually "know" her :giggle:
