My SA just sold me a medium but she said they only get 1-2 bags of each style now (from Paris) and they cannot order more..(in europe)Oh man. Well no wonder one of my NM couldn't get me the bag I wanted. He said he was going to try another boutique to see if they had it and would sell. I'm going to guess this is going to be a hard no if they are enforcing it this hard. Bummer, I was hoping to get ahead of potential Nov 1 increase, now it will be gone in the "panic" buying before I can purchase then.
What if the resellers are also VIPs who buy jewelry, RTW, shoes, etc? Do the rules really apply to them? Hopefully we’ll find out.Tbh I panicked a little when I heard the news. I did go crazy for 21k and I wouldn’t be able to do so anymore in the future. However after thinking about it a bit more, I do think it’ll be a bit *easier* to obtain bags in the future. With the new reserve system in place, the resellers can’t get 10 of the hot bags at once. It’ll be a fair chance for everyone to get their dream bags. I hope this would also mean we can see more bags in store and able to see the color before committing to purchase. I hate to have to contact multiple sa to just get on the reserve list and then get disappointed by the color in person. Hopefully with the new limitations, I can go to the store to browse and buy the bag I want like prior to 2019
My SA just told me that the 1 bag per month/12 bags per year limit will now be applied to households instead of individuals.
That would be tough… thinking platonic friends/roommates sharing a residence or people using the same mailing address.
Nothing will be effective with resellers & doing all this will just make the resale values skyrocket. They won't even NEED to buy as many bags b/c they will be able to sell for that much more. It gets to a place where you go, omg, they are just HANDBAGS and we are running around East Berlin in 1980 hiding radios in the basement.agreed. My mother and I both buy Chanel, and I usually have my bags shipped to her house because there's always someone there to sign for them, now I'll have to either coordinate with her or have the bags shipped to my own address, then play tag w/ UPS for signature delivery.
I don't think it's going to be that effective against reseller rings, since they usually have their friends/relatives buy bags, most of whom presumably don't live in the same household as them. Also, apparently if you go into the boutique and pay in person, it doesn't matter what address you have on file, you can have the bags shipped to wherever you like.

I’m sure I’m in the minority in my thinking. While I’m sure resellers are a huge issue that Chanel want to correct I think they are doing a business restructure and pivot their model for the future. Especially with so many new changes that’s happening. Lots of businesses have had to steer in a different direction this last year and a half and this new roll out that Chanel is doing is no different.
Money is subjective and people will pay whatever for what they want and if a person doesnt want to pay then that person is not who Chanel’s new target is. In turn Chanel see that they can raise prices that people are willing to pay, scale back on production, size down the staff, increase profit, focus on quality/customer experience (hopefully) and go the way of exclusivity like Hermès. Some brands don’t want to be over saturated like (for ex.)Coach and Michael Kors and at the rate of purchase that people are going that’s exactly where Chanel is headed. Quality over quantity. Paying premium for a bag via resellers in fear of an increase doesn’t make sense - that person is typically is paying a higher premium than the increase would be, not to mention the color will more than likely come back!
We are in a time where materials and workers are at an all time low and demand is at a high. People already complain about the quality of Chanel not being in line with Hermès so maybe their goal is to scale back on production so they can focus more on quality. If Chanel decides to focus on increasing the demand that means more production and more room for error (lower quality). Now is the time to scale back than any with employee and material shortages. Scaling back on production and then increasing quality and prices offset the loses from lower production.
I’m no chanel VIP by FAR(never will be). I am a business owner that has had to cut back on production, increase prices and client experience to focus on a different clientele that’s willing to pay a premium so I can still profit and not overwork my staff. Just my one lil ole cent![]()
Bolded all day. I haven’t even attempted Hermès yet. Every time I tell myself I’m going in to the store I change my mind. I don’t need another vice to pick upGood points. I can definitively see this exclusivity thing, how they want to be like Hermès. Funny but not, I have a love/hate relationship with Hermès. I love them but hate them too. I don’t own any of their ‘quota’ bags, although I have been really wanting one badly for the last two years or so. However, I am just not willing to buy in the reseller market with the markup or play the Hermès game. I have only walked into my local Hermès store four times, but haven’t had the best experiences with the SAs. I did tell one SA I worked with right away that my main interest was mainly for the bags that I was a purse collector, bag lady. I have bought sandles, Evelyne bags, costume jewelry, and twillies from the store. From what I read, none of that really goes to your spend and towards a quota bag. I have never felt 100% comfortable in the store, always feeling like I am playing a game, putting up a front, although I know I can afford to get that quota bag. I feel like it’s a waste of time and effort. That’s why I ‘hate’, ok maybe strongly dislike, Hermès a lot. I feel like they are playing a game, toying with me. I can get the bag, but they don’t see me worthy, thus making me feel bad. I don’t want to feel bad or disrespected because of a material object, a purse for goodness sake, absolutely ridiculous. I have even resorted to just shopping on their website and even asking a few people with possible contacts if they could get a ‘quota, for me lol, pure desperation. I tried. Funny, I had just convinced myself that I don’t want to play the Hermès game and I don’t want a quota bag, and just focus on Chanel which I truly love. Plus, I have one boutique where I feel so at home in and all the SAs they are quite lovely. But now, Chanel is changing the rules which will force even more outrageous price increases and will require me to really plan my purchases carefully, which is not fun. Shopping and collecting should be fun, not work
Same here, with Chanel price increase and restrictions, thought about to play the Hermès game, and listed things that I might like can towards quota bag. But I really don’t want shopping , a fun and happy thing , be turned into a stressful and frustrating thing.Bolded all day. I haven’t even attempted Hermès yet. Every time I tell myself I’m going in to the store I change my mind. I don’t need another vice to pick upat least that’s what I’m telling myself.
I don’t want to feel like a carrot is being dangled in my face to spend my money. BUT I do understand a business wanting to go in a different direction. I don’t think they expected the influx of new buyers. I just recently got back in to Chanel after a few years of not purchasing so I’m very low on their list target of clients lol. However, I do have a good relationship with my new SA. Maybe I got in before they lock new people out![]()
BUT making it harder to purchase seems to me that they will drive more to the very resellers that are trying crack down on. It doesn’t make sense that Chanel’s goal is to get rid of resellers when they are decreasing purchases. Where else would be people go because let’s be honest it will not stop people from paying premium.
There’s a cf 21k on FP right now for 12k that I’m sure someone will buy because value means different things to people.
