Neiman Marcus has the bags chained to the wall!

Lol I don't care either. It's easy to take a look at it from afar at first to see if it's something you'd be interested in, then if you want to look closer or try it out a little, ask an SA to remove it for you.
Following the logic of some responses here, does that mean then that you refuse to ever shop at the Chanel counter again (assuming your NM has one like mine does) because they have the bags locked up in glass cabinets?? :shrugs:

I'm just picturing myself at home, thinking about buying a new bag and rolling over to NM.
Am I really going to go home empty handed because they're protecting their assets?
I think not. Not me anyhow.:shrugs:
I either want the bag or I don't. A little wire that my SA has to unlock can't change that.

:roflmfao: Damn straight. If only that chasity belt aka "the locked wire" worked. :roflmfao:

No wonder retail is going down the tubes. Honestly, the wires are encouraging the idea of exclusivity, which these high end stores think will keep selling luxe items.
The argument that stores and retailers lose lots of money due to theft is true, but it is also true that a $3000 bag costs LESS to make than it used to as a percentage of the retail cost.
It is sad that the luxury boutique experience has degraded to this. Why don't they just put metal bars on the windows like the local pawn shop? Both shops have the same problem.....
The luxury shopping experience has died. Enjoyable while it lasted.

actually i am pretty sure that's what the security team is for. the SAs don't chase after people who steal purses themselves because that is not part of their job description. malls and department stores have surveillance cameras and security guards on duty and they are usually very successful in catching people who commit grand theft.

Not all stores have security specifically for a certain store. For ex., if a dept store is anchoring a mall, yes they have "mall security" but they have to protect all the stores in the mall so they aren't exclusive to one store.

lol this reminds me of a few days ago...

i went to nordies to buy a couple juicy necklaces, and i had two in front of me i was trying on

and the SA actually took the one, immedeately after i tried it on, and said "i gotta put this back here (behind the counter , by the register) before LP comes and yells at me

im like :roflmfao: its only $50 !!!!

but apparently , cheap costume jewelry is a hot commodity for theifs? lol

I do not think anyone is walking around the bag department. I just like to see how i look in the mirror next to the counter.I also want to make sure zip closure and clasps are alright. I Think that going into "said store" is the exclusive part. Marc Jacobs/ chanel/ Hermes/ Prada has its security guard posted. I am unsure how people are walking out with bags ( i can understand a wallet/ key pouch/ etc but then again is that not why they have censors inside the bags /etc). Overal, like many said it is just a wire ; but that wire draws so many different reactions from people.

the coach outlet is crazy and they have this problem undercontrol.

I was at a local NM last year where someone walked away with two bags -- right out the door. The SAs saw it happening, but for security reasons, I guess they couldn't chase after the individual directly, and had to call security.

The SAs are under strict orders not to pursue so they don't get hurt.

Coach doesn't have it under control at all, they have a MASSIVE shrinkage problem. My local store has had smash and grabs several times and it's considered a newer store.

I for one am glad that the bags are chained up. Today I was in Saks Off Fifth Ave. making my very first purchase and low and behold two women robbed the store. It was unblievable, they grabbed a bunch of clothes and one lovely Michael Kors bag and ran out of the store. I was in complete shock. I think they got an SA to un chain the bag, made like they were going to the register, and then ran out the door.
People like that ruin it for the rest of us because that mean price increase at the stores.

Ive seen chained dooneys and coach at macys, they are not in the 1k range if anythin lower ranges, but they have it like tht 4 a reason.
I usually hate that some SAs make a face like i know you not gonna buy it or something, so when i wanna try a locked up item, i dont really mind.

That reminds me, I was at Nordstrom just recently to buy a pair of Burberry earmuffs. I went to the tall shelves that had all the Burberry winter gear: Scarves, hats, gloves ,etc. And there was an SA posted just next to all the accessories. I picked up one of the muffs and went to the mirror to try it on. The SA was all nervous and thought I might steal it. LOL. I walked around the counters nearby to see if I could buy anything else to complement the muffs. The SA then takes my muffs and left it next to the register counter. I thought that was weird. :confused1:

But I'm sure she was all relieved when I made my decision to just pay for the muffs by itself. I'm a bit worried that the next SA that works in that department is going to feel the same way if I'll ever get around to buying something there again. Oh well.

By the way, it was kids sized muffs in a signature Novacheck pattern, $135.
