NANO SPEEDY - Has anyone removed (cut off) their attached strap?

To cut or not to cut?

I just purchased a LV Nano Speedy with the attached strap. I pick it up on Thursday. I know the new version comes out later this month that has the removable strap. I thought about about getting that one initially but saw that it's actually smaller then the old nano version. I don't need the nano to be even SMALLER! LOL. Also it's about $240 more. So when my SA told me the old nano just arrived I decided to jump on it as it is NOW or never as hard as it is to get this thing! With the old nano phasing out I probably got one of the few left in inventory. I don't know if I will actually cut my strap off and convert it into an attachable strap but I'm thinking about it. Has anyone done this and if so how did you do it? Any regrets? Do you feel it brings down the value of the old nano? Pictures of conversions will be greatly appreciated! TYIA!

Wow! Thanks to everyone responding.

i honestly thought ppl would agree on getting rid of the strap.
Guess I was wrong. Majority says to leave it as is. Gaaaah... I’m torn.

But also I want to apologise and add some more info:
1. Of course I would UNDO THE STITCHING!!!
Not cut through the actual leather!!! I might be a wee bit crazy but not thoroughly insane to cut that poor vachetta. Just the thought of it pains me :’( Hehe..
2. I DO NOT PLAN ON RESELLING this bag.
It’s been quite a hunt and I love this mini bag and I wanna keep it forever and hand it down the line. I mean it’s a classic. Just in miniature form. Even if the mini bag trend goes.. I think it would look cute as heck on kids (even if it’s a bit too much).
3. I combined it with the PM mono strap and...
I WISH I had the Multi Pochette rose clair strap.. But that’s another story/hunt tbc...
4. I would want a detachable strap for the sake of being able to combine it with other straps (the length is fine) and also have it hand held, or better say: no strap dangling when I want to carry the Nano Speedy as an accessory bag inside other bags with me.
Hope that clears up a few questions and comments.

I am honestly surprised. Since I felt like everyone wants this bag with a detachable strap. But then again everyone is like “Yes, buuuut...”

once again:
THANK YOU ALL.

I have to think about it a little more. I will definitely let you know what happened to the strap! ;)
So what did you end up doing with the strap on your nano? I am late to the game but I just bought a Nano Speedy! I'm contemplating on removing it as I want to use my Matisse mono strap on days I don't want to worry about a vachetta strap. Is it possible to open up the D rings on the side in order to slide the strap off? I hope so as I will do that in a heartbeat!

Hi! Im just curious why did you chose to buy the nano speedy with attached strap? Have you considered the speedy20 with detachable strap? I have the nano speedy for more than 2years now and i still love it. But nowadays im considering on removing the strap since its a forever bag for me. The length strap is not a problem for me, its perfect length. I just wonder the look of it without strap. I have straps from my other LV bags and a bandouliere so i can use that as well. Anyhow, congrats on getting your nano speedy!

Yes I considered the 20 but it's impossible to get. Ive been stalking the site and harrassing my sweet SA like a bill collector! Lol:panic: I can wait til one pops up but I don't want to pay more then what the price currently is. I heard LV is having ANOTHER price increase towards the end of the month. Crazy as they just had one in October. So I did think about it but I'm not willing to pay so much for it. The only way is if I get the opportunity to buy one soon...as in VERY soon. Lol. I know there is a new nano coming out towards the end of the month with removable straps but it's smaller so that option gets tossed out. Lol. The old nano is the winner for me. :loveeyes:Lol. I think the strap length may be ok for me (I'm 5.7") but there will be times I will prefer to use my Matisse canvas mono strap. Many times I run out with my hair damp and using the mono strap is more care free then the vachetta. I doubt if I would use it strap free as it may look silly holding it on my wrist or hand but if I'm trying to dress it up to a more dressy look maybe that may work. Lol. Not sure. Someone suggested prying open the D rings on the side to slide the Vachetta strap out of the D rings. Someone did it on a Coach bag on YouTube and it looked so easy! I'm just not sure how flexible the metal is and if its an option on the nano rings. They stuck the nose of the pliers in the D ring and just pulled the handles apart on the pliers and the gap that is already there on the D ring just opened up wider. It did not mishape the D ring at all. I prefer removing the strap that way. I pick up my Nano this Thursday. I'm hoping I don't look like I using a 8yr old bag as it's so small. Lol. I'm 5ft 7in and about 140 to 145 lbs so hopefully it is nice on my body size. Lol

Oh yes the price increases and the production of items is quite annoying sometimes. I got lucky with my nano speedy, i went to the shop near me to get my credit note from a defective item but seems like they dont want so they didnt have a choice but to sell me the nano speedy they have.I happened to see the nano noe they had in the drawer and ask for the nano speedy as well.At first they were hesitant and deny that they have stock. But when i insist to just get my credit note since they dont have the items i am looking for, they just gave in and sold me the nano speedy.Funny but true story. I love the size of the speedy20 and the zipper minus the strap. But its too expensive. I also have the keepal xs in watercolor and speedy b25 in damier ebene so i guess enough speedys for me now. haha their prices is getting ridiculous for me. Now i want to add only leather bags. I hope you can get the speedy20

As for the strap, i suggest you do the pre tan of the vachetta. I did mine for a week. I put it beside the window where the sun comes in and rotate the bag so it will tan. After that i use the bag, one time my coffee got spill on the vachetta straps and i was so shock. But it dried out, and it was perfectly fine. I didnt spray anything, i just pre tan it. Even to my other bags and slg’s that has a vachetta leather, i do the same thing and they are perfectly fine even if i spill something on it.

I am 5’6” and around 150pounds, and the strap is perfect for my liking. I have quiet a bit long torso. I hope you will love the nano speedy. I think it has the most reasonable price among the new nano speedy they release nowadays.

Thank you for the tip of pre tanning. I've heard of it but never really did it as I was always so anxious to use my bags immediately! Lol. I do spray them with Apple Garde. I find that interesting that pre tanning is good enough to resist spots or stains. I am looking forward to my little nano. I haven't seen it yet in person so I hope it doesn't look too small for my liking. I see them on YouTube but I don't know anyone personally with one. I saw the mini HL speedy and that was too small for my liking. The old nano is larger, thank goodness! Lol

Oh cool! Wish I knew someone that owns the old nano and removed the strap. I can't wait to see it in person. When I see my SA tomorrow I'm going to ask him if it voids my warranty, like on the canvas or if the zipper has an issue or handles, etc. Those things should have nothing to do with the strap being removed but I'll ask anyway. Hate for me to have an issue with the canvas peeling or cracking and I won't be covered. I told my SA I was thinking about cutting the strap off and he said go for it! Lol. He said he knows many people that have. Yikes! Lol

I have the nano too and I don't think I will cut the strap off because it is a simplistic and practical design and I think it's perfect as is, besides if I plan to go some dressy events I have other bags to use. But I can see someone would cut the strap off if they plan to use it for dressy events half of the time or more

One thing to consider - and the only reason I mention this is because it happened to me. Sometimes when you remove a strap like this (which has a tight leather hold to the ring), you end up with a slight problem when adding a clip style strap. What happens is the bag now doesn’t have a correct security and will start to tilt, tip forward or shift weird when moving. Luckily the Nano has pivot points that are higher up so it might not make a huge difference but you won’t know until you do it. My situation happened when I cut off a strap (non LV) and as soon as I attached a clip style strap to it, it would tip around weird and not sit right. It was a light bag and didn’t have enough weight to it to keep it steady and straight up. I immediately regretting removing the strap. I realized why it was designed that way in the first place. The tight leather hold to the D ring gave it a structured ability to sit right against the body. By removing that security, it now was a dangly mess. Not saying this will happen to yours but maybe do some more research on it to see if someone else has tried this, and what their results are. And if anyone is reading this and considering to this to another bag, just take a good look at the design of the bag and see if it will lend itself to a clip style strap connection vs a tight hold leather connection. Hope this helps!
This is a fabulous take. I had never even thought about how a new strap would cause the bag to hang.

Yes, I want to know if it would void future repairs.
