As for 70cms, I admittedly don't have a lot of tricks. I do love the soft hand of this format and am always looking to add more to my collection. Unfortunately there are not many designs out there that make my heart go pitter-patter.

For 70cms, my go-to knots are:
1) cowboy
2) cowboy with scarf ring on one side
3) side cowboy with necklace over the front triangle part
4) asymmetrical fold cowboy knot
5) scarf necklace with loose knot in the middle
6) scarf necklace with scarf ring in the middle (this creates a longer V shape necklace)

I'm going to show my Jeu de Omnibus et Dames blanches. I must admit, when I first saw this scarf, I thought it was kind of weird. Why are there a bunch of women playing a game in the middle and old fashioned wagons being pulled by horses around the edge? It didn't really make any sense to me. But then I read up on the history (MaiTai has explained it well here in her scarf profile http://www.maitaispicturebook.com/2009/12/scarf-profile-jeu-de-omnibus-et-dames.html) and thought ok, it's kind of cool because it was reissued to commemorate the 70th anniversary of hermes carres and is actually the first design Hermes ever made. And on top of that, I had just purchased an orange pico and well, you know, the bag demanded orange accessories and I didn't have an orange scarf yet. So of course I got itchy fingers and purchased this one on evilbay.

The sad part is I never wear it but I can't bear to part with it either! I will confess, I have a few of these types of scarves in my drawers. I used to agonize over them but somehow I made peace with myself over the whole situation.

OK, here are knot numbers 2, 4, 5, and 6 from my list above. I do hope these pics are smaller and you guys don't have a closeup of my wrinkly neck and chest.

Thank you for this! Just bought my first 70s and these are great inspiration! And I believe the hobby turned full time job you're referring to is your leather bag charm? I've set my sights on some of the cuties and plan to get some [emoji7]

Thank you MrsWasik. Which 70cm did you purchase? Let's see! And yes, you are correct about my hobby. Thanks for liking them.

Great posts. I'll admit that I'm too afraid to twist my moussies like that. I like to wear them long and flowy. But you gave me some great new ideas on how to wear my 70s. I do find that I'm wearing them much more often in the warm weather. I need to try your twilly on the farandole technique. Maybe you can profile that next? Have we reviewed your twilly collection yet?

Hi, MYH! I have been following this beautiful thread of yours and, like so many others, have enjoyed your lively story-telling and your fabulous photos.

I was happy that you brought up something that's happened to me as well... What do I do with a scarf that I don't wear but just cannot part with (not even to give away)? Is there really room for "scarf as artwork" in one's collection?

I try to be disciplined and just buy one of a favourite design. I'm honest with myself that some cw's are just art to admire and not wearable accessories for me.

I'm interested in your thoughts (and others who are in this situation).

YAY YOU'RE BACK!!! And with 70s, my fave format! I love that asymmetrical cowboy...I must try it. Any chance of a tutorial?

Absolutely nothing wrong with having a collection that includes some items just for the sake of their beauty as art. Many of us on here never part with any in our collection whilst others are constantly editing and exchanging older styles for new ones...both ways are quite common I think. {I am one of the former btw...I just can't part with anything haha}
I, too, have a "no repeat" rule for patterns although there are a few I may break that rule for [i.e. C'est la Fete] as long as the formats are different and the right opportunity comes up. I have yet to break it but I'm sure it will happen once or twice in the future. I DO try and wear all of my scarves at least occasionally but some of them I bought with the knowledge that they will not be worn often due to their color and I'm okay with it because of their striking beauty [hello, white Daimyo!].

Well hello there...how have you all been? I think summer is officially here in most places where we all live. Maybe except Australia? I know, I'be been away so long. My apologies. I started a little hobby that kind of morphed into a full-time job. So I have been kind of busy.

But I'm back for now! With some random scarf ties and another scarf to showcase. I'll be honest...I can't remember which scarves I've already shown and which I have not. So I apologize if I start repeating myself.

OK, it's hot! And the last thing most of us want to do is put another piece of fabric around our necks. But as scarf junkies, we still want to wear them. So the formats I've been reaching for our my 70cms and moussies.
....
The way I braid the moussie is to bias fold the scarf very carefully, and then loop it around a door knob around the house. Then I start twisting and braiding. The best way I can describe it is to twist and braid the two separate tails at the same time. The trick is to twist and wind the right direction. Take each tail and twist clockwise, then braid counterclockwise. If you do it correctly, it will not unravel. If you do it incorrectly, it will. Here's a hair video showing how to do it. . Also because the scarf is bulkier in the middle and I want the braid to appear the same thickness throughout, I braid a bit tighter at the beginning and then loosen up my twist and braid when I get to the end. I hope this all makes sense if you want to give it a try.

Ah brilliant! Thanks for this.

I thought about you when I was shopping for my scarf last week. One of the cw of Flâneries à Versailles is a bold green with peacock blue. If I was looking for a green scarf, that would be it ;)

@MYH Have I told you lately how much I love you?! :flowers: I tried your moussie twirl and it's perfect!! It's exactly what to wear when it's too hot to wear anything, and it was so easy even I could do it. @Pocketbook Pup I admit I figured it was going to be a wrinkled mess when I undid it this evening, but it wasn't - not at all! I was so happy with this knot that I tried it on a 90 and 140 silk twill too, but unfortunately the 90 is too small (or my neck is too big) and the 140 silk twill just doesn't look nearly as nice. I think this is going to be my go-to moussie knot for the rest of the summer (at least). Thank you so much for sharing and expanding my horizons. (pic of today's moussie twirl - Urashima Taro from SS 2015; yes, I have a sweater on lol but the AC in my office was freezing)

Yes I will dear. I'll show the Twilly farandole thingy I do in my next big post.

Hi! I actually don't have that hangy contraption thing that H sells. I would love to hang a scarf in my walk in closet but alas, my humble little closet is not big enough. If you're looking for artwork around the house, I would recommend it! Unfortunately, we don't even have any wall space in our house. Every open space is already taken up by paintings.

YAY YOU'RE BACK!!! And with 70s, my fave format! I love that asymmetrical cowboy...I must try it. Any chance of a tutorial?

Hi BJS - the asymmetrical cowboy is what MaiTai calls the asymmetrical shoulder wrap. She has many blog post showing it. It's just the fold in half, pick up opposite corners and tie a small knot with the tails. Then arrange the triangle part hanging down the front. Hope that helps

Ah brilliant! Thanks for this.
You're welcome!

So nice to see you here dear Melora! I ran over to H.com to check out this flanerie Versailles scarf and love the colors! I will definitely ask to see it next time I'm in the boutique. I need more green in my life!

Aw honey! You made my day with this post. It's looks fab on you and executed perfectly! I've had the same experience with this twist braid for the 90s and 140s. Those formats don't work for this knot. But guess what? It works on maxi twillies!
Myh you r a master at mix n match your scarves with ur daily outfits![emoji4][emoji4]
You are too kind dear. Thank you.

I hope everyone has had fun twisting and braiding. So guess what? It works with maxi twillies too. The only thing I do different is when you get to the end, take the two tails and wrap around the loop in opposite directions. Now instead of tying a knot with both tails, take just one tail and tie a knot just with the one tail. Then slide the other tail through the knot you just made. This reduces the bulk of the knot at the end and both tails will hang nicely in the same direction. I hope this makes sense? Let me know if I need to further explain. Here's a photo of my MT tied this way.

image.jpeg

@MYH Wow!! Love everything in this photo! I thought braiding only worked with mousselines. Good that we can wear maxi twillies this way, too. Thank you for this inspired idea. :hbeat:

@Bostonjetset, thank you for the great advice! I will make peace with the "artsy" scarves and have a place for a few, just like you.
