My opinion of Hermes is changing...

I'm in the older bag is better camp - well made vintages or teenage bags have this "oomph" about it. In my unfortunate case of the skunk a refund is not possible so it will be my last "new" purchase from the stores after the replacement arrives.

Well, I lasted 24 hours with the idea of not replacing my bag. I am going to order another SO Birkin Bicolor but not in Togo.
I have an appt with my SA tomorrow to reorder.
:blushing::blushing:

Good for you! I hope that your new bag is perfect. I reordered the exact same bag in togo and I'm praying that the issue will be resolved before my replacement bag is made.

Good luck to you! :smile1:

How did H resolve your issue? I am just being nosy, since my store said it is a 'case by case' resolution, based on (according to my local store) if the bag is something they regularly order?!

i didn't get a skunk but just following the experience of those who did made me feel this way also. i wouldn't feel comfortable spending that much on a new bag from h from here on out because it doesn't feel like the quality matches the price anymore. If i wanted another h bag, i think i'd go vintage.

i'll still buy scarves and other items though. :smile1:

+1

Still love the cashmere and silk shawls though. Until something unthinkable happens with them, H still gets a large chunk of my hard-earned money. :p

I don't want to throw a bucket of cold water over you, but we did go through quality issues and a big outcry with the silk/cashmere GMs already. The quality of the cashmere noticeably slipped - the cashmere is now thinner and both runs and pills more easily.

In many ways the outcome was the same...many of us have slowed down on the purchases of new ones and we buy/treasure our older ones.

It is perhaps inevitable for a company expanding by bounds, but it is sad to see quality slipping at one of the last few luxury houses...

Oh, no bucket of cold water is being thrown over me dear. I am fully aware of the conversations, posts and concerns regarding the cashmere/silk GMs but I really haven't experienced any of those problems with mine. And as a somewhat new collector of H shawls, I haven't yet resorted to paying the reseller prices to obtain older designs. LOL. Also, IMO, looking at the pace at which the ode to GMs thread is moving these days, it doesn't really appear that any of us have truly slowed down on purchases of new GMs! Oh well!

I started to focus on my SA telling me that "it was Togo and some Epsom". I am thinking I have always loved my Barenia and Swift and Chèvre bags!

I relate to these (and box too) the way others do to croc. They are the draw for me. Surely there's room for a variety of leathers.

In reference to care: my SA spend an hour and half with me just over finding something to replace a returned scarf (the first I'd ever returned). At around closing time and after my 'up grade' the rain fell down in sheets outside, and when I'd left my umbrella at work. Another SA made me take his umbrella for the evening and return it whenever. That's what I call service and care

I got a skunk SO too. They were very gracious about taking it back, which I am so grateful for, and gave me a refund, but I've neither been able to get a replacement SO or a replacement bag at all.

This, along with a few other smaller issues I've had recently, definitely burst my Hermes bubble. I no longer have motivation to go to the store at all.

I hope that your replacement bag gives you even more happiness than receiving the first! I'm excited for you that you got to put in a replacement! :)

+1. Unfortunately that has become the exception vs normality.

I am still debating if I will report or not the treatment I got at Faubourg lately....

Honestly, I think it is a "generational" thing. I know many long-time collectors who have stopped or dramatically slowed on buying GMs. It is easier to do when one has many of the older pieces to fall back on! I do agree that there are lots of TPFers buying GMs, but my own sense is that quite of them are newer collectors.

I can sympathize. Since I didn't marry well or come from $$$, an incredible amount of blood, sweat and tears went into the purchases of my H back in the day. Soon after my purchases started dying down (I'm minimalist and was fortunate enough to complete my itty bitty collection in a number of years), there began the sporatic reports of declining quality (piling GMs, thinner leather, etc). I can't even begin to imagine what the skunk tpfers must feel. Frankly I'm quite embarrased for the brand. IMO, they should take back ALL merchandise that emits this offensive odor. It's completely unacceptable - especially that that price point.

Please do share your experience at FSH. Intrigued to know.

Me too... Please share.

Well my H bubble has not burst yet but my DH has had comments about the GP and Medor clutch I got. The GP has minor scratches on one of the corner and the Medor a Clutch has a peeling inside protector/base issue. I'm still waiting for them to give me replacement of the GP and an answer to the medor, but I have not gotten anything after 2 weeks.
