Moncler vs Canada Goose

I own both a longer Moncler coat and shorter Canada Goose and i have to say that as for warmth, the Canada Goose is wamer. In fact i just ordered the longest version of the Canada Goose styles because i hear we are going to experience somewhat of another polar vortex this winter. For me, looking stylish on a frigid winter's day is always secondary. I NEED to be warm as i commute by public transportation and walk almost a mile to work. If you maybe want to pick up a Moncler as a spring/fall jacket instead would be good too. Best of both worlds :) Good luck in your decision as they are both good quality.

Canada Goose is an older Canadian company which makes extreme weather gear designed for outside workers. They have all the extreme weather construction techniques built into their coats. You don't want a coat with a cold spot on a seam or shifting insulation. If you get cold and have extreme winters get Canada Goose.

An alternative to the two brands, but not so easy to find is another company called ADD. You can find them at Neiman's and other like stores, but with limited design options.

The designs are done in Italy, so it's got that Italian flair. It's my "go to" when the weather gets cold here in DC. I like the fact that they are not bulky AND that it's NOT a popular brand. I tend to stay away from things that are viewed as more popular.

Good luck with your search.

Does anyone have the Hermine or Flamme Moncler? I need a longer down coat than my Burberry and I really like these two. I tried the Hermine and seemed a bit busy, but the coat is a super soft material and feels so good on. The Flamme, looks like a more standard long puffer, but has a great shape to it and the collar is nice and big so it really protects you from the wind. Any thoughts on either of these?

I tried both on and my mother and I both agreed that the Flamme looks much better because of the cinched waist at the back. My only pet peeve is that the hood of the Flamme is just a piece of fabric vs the Hermine, which actually felt like it had some down feathers in the hood.

Thank you everyone for the feedback! I have ruled out Canada Goose after seeing the fur from the hood shed and sticking onto the jacket. I'm now deciding between the Moncler Flamme and a Burberry puffer coat.

Does anyone have any experience with Burberry puffer coats - are they warm? Also, do Burberry coats run small? I am a 0 in Moncler, and found the Burberry puffer coat I tried on in a XS to be perfect everywhere except for the underarm area where I could feel a little tightness when I stretch my arms. The S was too big overall.

I'm deciding between these two now. Thoughts?

I love my Canada Goose Kensington Parka (super warm!), but the fad is slowly dying here (im from Toronto) and we're trending towards Nobis jackets (also a Canadian brand) which I think are more stylish.

They're slightly more expensive though, but just as warm! if you're in NYC - it might be a better option, since they're coats are windproof/waterproof.

I have had to be in Chicago during their winters last and this year for work/research purposes (I'm Californian). I bought a Burberry puffer, and it is warm. Last year, I was there for teens to 0 degree weather, and I was able to wear a lightweight turtleneck or a silk blouse/sweater underneath and be fine at 0. For the teens, I only needed one light top. This year I will be there during the really cold period, and my friends have told me that an extra layer or two should see me through to the negatives with the Burberry.

I don't have experience with Moncler, but I think the Canada Goose might be too much for NYC (I did my undergrad there). I was choosing between Burberry and Canada last year for Chicago, and the CG felt like overkill. Canada is also more casual looking whereas you can wear the Burberry to events.

I would go with a Burberry, but get one with a hood. They're amazing for protection against the wind, which I never appreciated until Chicago, and they don't mess up your hair, lol. Also, the high collar/hood combo means you won't need a scarf. I say this as a weather wimp who is only warm in So. Cal. Even the Bay Area is chilly to me, lol.

Burberry does run small compared to other brands, particularly around the arms sometimes. I wear a 0 in them and would say their XS are cut on the smaller side. Just try on different coats until you find one that works. You also probably want a little room in the arms for a layer or two.

I'm from so Cali too and totally must agree with your Bay Area comment!! :)

I have a similar Burberry and I am always cold in the winter and it was not warm enough for me in Washington DC during last year's polar vortex. That being said, it's great when it's in the 40s+.

I wear a size XS in the Burberry but the Flamme didn't fit me well across the shoulders. I'm fairly petite so was really surprised. The Flamme is also much longer than the Burberry. I think if you are only in a cold climate for brief periods the Burberry (worn with a cashmere sweater)is more than adequate...unless you are always freezing like me! 😳

I ended up with the Moncler Moka because it's even longer than the Flamme and I hate to be cold! But I'm glad I have the Burberry too! Love the collar on the one you are looking at!
