Yes. They used to make them in sterling silver but now they make them out of crushed Cheerios. I still love my newer LVs though!

I have one from 2016, and it has worn like iron. I don't know when they changed the canvas or the chain, though. I also have a key pouch that when the gold color on the chain was wearing away, I took it to the store, and it was replaced on the spot. These are getting harder to come by, so if you like it, I would keep it 
I got one in 2007, which was stolen. I then got another one in January, and I feel the difference in the canvas and chain as well. Although I don’t think it feels like worse quality canvas, only different.
I think my MP is about 4 years old and I use every single day. It has shown no signs of wear whatsoever. That little is a true workhouse. It’s one of 3 items I always have in my bags...if you’re in doubt or not happy then maybe this little cutie is not for you.
Some will think you're buggin but I'm gonna tell you that you're not...I also bought an ebene back in July; then went back again in November to check out the xmas pa's and that's when I noticed the new cheapened chain...so they changed it sometime within those 4 months. As for canvas, I didn't notice any differences but you might have since you had one from 2012.
Despite the alterations, I still "LVOE" their classic pochettes large medium or small..I just can't get enough! Like no matter what age you turn or wherever your life takes you...they'll never become useless...at least to me...if I live up to 80 I can still see myself rockin the pochettes ya know...and you can always tuck the chain inside/take it off completely and attach a different strap..
I got a MP in 2017 and was also surprised by the lightness of the chain. I didn't have anything prior to that (was my first LV) so I couldn't compare. I kind of like it though. It's such a small piece so anything heavier would be annoying. Coach has a similar pouch with a heavy chain and I always stop myself from buying it because the chain always topples the bag over and it just feels so clunky on my wrist. The chain on my MP is light but solid (doesn't feel like plastic like other light chains) and feels a bit more like a bracelet when I use it as a wristlet. Maybe LV switched the material so that the chain's weight was more aligned with the size of the product?
I bought my mini mono pouchette in 4/2013 and my mini DE pouchette in 11/2018. I just took them out to compare them. IMO the canvas seems the same??? (Maybe my finger tips are off) 
and the chain is pretty much atypical. However, it appears the one on the left has a wider open hole. That’s from the DE I just recently purchased. The one on the right is from the mono I purchased in 2013. I guess the less opening of the holes makes it appear stronger. The length and size is the same.

I hear you but this is how it is now. You can return and buy prelove but if prelove is not for you, then this version is only choice. I have a pochette from 2008 and it definitely has thicker canvas.

The canvas and hardware is thinner/lighter now. Let’s face it, LV is a tad stingy and their revenue is insane
