Complete Chanel newbie here and hoping you ladies can point me in the right direction I really want a square mini in black caviar with silver hw - and no top stitching- does this bag exist?? I only see it on Instagram and I've been trawling preloved but only see gold hardware or lambskin with the silver. But in my mind I'm like - how can this basic combo not exist? If I find this rare unicorn how old would it be? Or should I get lambskin instead? (I'm quite rough with my bags and I have a toddler). Tia!

Hiya! Black caviar/silver certainly exists but Chanel has not made a rectangular or square mini in caviar since 2018 (I believe?); I'm not sure when silver hardware was last used but it like leather type offered changes based on season. That specific combo is well sought after and always has been. If you don't mind waiting, I am sure they will make them again at some point, but who knows when that will be/then you'll be fighting along with nearly every other mini lover for caviar. If you keep searching on re-sale websites one will eventually appear, but it will definitely be well over retail price.

As a long-time Chanel lover, I must say that I actually prefer lambskin over caviar. Many would (I think) agree with me when I say lambskin is not nearly as fragile as some think, and is a great leather that ages extremely well. I'd maybe suggest going into a Chanel when you have a chance and ask to see examples of both leather if you never have before? Before I purchased my first Chanel nearly a decade ago I thought I wanted caviar, but actually seeing the two in person sold me on lambskin immediately.

good luck!

Mom of young kids here too and just got lambskin mini's. I love caviar and now I'm loving lamb too. You mentioned you are rough on your bags though. I don't baby my bags but I certainly don't throw them around either, I'm careful not to scratch them or rub them next to a wall. My kids know not to touch mommy's bag also. Lamb is softer but as long as you're not too rough it's perfectly ok. I've been using mine non stop since I purchased it and it's holding up just fine.

Mini square in caviar has been discontinued since 2018, so pre-loved market is your only choice for now. They definitely exist, but are usually sold for a markup since this is a very popular combo.

And here I was thinking I'd go for a classic combo so it's easier to find
Thanks for that. I'll have a rethink. Seems the easier to find combo is lambskin + gold hw? The thing is I think the gold might be too flashy for me

I do just put my bags on the floor etc but maybe since it's a small bag I'd learn to put it on the table instead. My toddler loves chains so definitely can't keep it away from here - another reason to go for black less staining!

I definitely don't want to pay more then retail so I'll have yo rethink. Do we think they might release some soon since its been 5years? It's so weird that it's such a common combo in the double flaps yet they don't release the mini in it.

So minis in caviar have been discontinued, which means Chanel will not produce them in the foreseeable future. The only available minis you can buy in boutiques now are in lambskin or other fabrics like tweed and sequins. The reason why caviar minis have been discontinued is because they are so durable and at a friendlier price point than the small/medium classic flaps, thus they are bought much more frequently than the small medium CF. This means people will only buy caviar minis and they will not buy small/ medium CFs, which are officially Chanel's classic bags. They know this so they had to discontinue the caviar minis so people will pay more for the small medium CFs in caviar.

Heya! It's tough because getting your hands on a mini is hard enough when you aren't specifically looking for a certain combo honestly. I will say, I don't particularly like the normal gold toned hardware either, the lighter champagne color though is gorgeous and much less flashy. Silver hardware lambskin will be around again sometime I am sure, in fact, I know that boutiques were getting black lambskin and silver hardware minis about a month ago. That being said, they typically are not even put on the shelves because they sell to clients that S.A.'s already know want one. Your best bet is to go to your nearest Chanel, find a nice S.A. and let them know what your looking for and to be put on the waitlist. If you live in a city with several boutiques nearby, never apologize for using all of them to find the bag you want. I have one S.A. who I try my best to shop with normally but if another store has something I am looking for that my S.A. can't get a hold of I jump on it.
