Hi hi, I'm considering adding a mini square to my collection in my dream combo: chevron & yellow. It's pre-loved in great condition and of course, extremely marked up at 6K USD. I've been searching for this exact bag for awhile but just hate to think the cost is so much more than retail. Mini lovers, is it worth it if it was something you've been looking for? It would also be my last handbag for the year; I have a strict 2 handbags/year policy so that I can really think about my decisions and not impulse buy. Thanks for any input!
First of all, can I just applaud your resolve and your 2 bags/year policy? It's so hard when Chanel has so many collections per year and there is so much buying and selling everywhere!
So, to answer your question, yes, I think it is okay to pay above retail for a pre-owned bag that you are coveting. I absolutely hate the idea but I have done it ONCE. I bought a mini square caviar in 12A red

last year. It didn't come with a receipt but I am guessing I paid about 40% above what it had originally cost

(best guess... about 1K USD above its original price???). I decided to do it because I don't have a caviar mini, I am SO particular about my reds and I
love 12A red, and it still cost less than a mini square at the retail price at that time (2022). Lastly, as sure as the earth will revolve around the sun, Chanel bags will always increase in price.

So in a weird, warped way... that protects the value of the pre-owned mini I bought (even though I don't plan to sell it).
I thought really long and hard about it and even though I paid more than what the original owner had paid for it, I'm glad I did it because I haven't seen this bag in this combination since. It was a combination of so many factors that made me bite the bullet and pull the trigger. Have I used it much since I got it? NO! Hahahaha! But it's okay. I'm just so happy to have a 12A red in my collection, and in my favourite Chanel bag style! (Yup, I much prefer the mini square to the mini rectangle.)
I think you have to weigh all the factors that are important to you and then decide if it's worth spending the $$$. Sometimes you CAN put a price on happiness.

You just have to decide what's your sweet spot price. For me, if the bag was $500 more, I would not have bought it.The price was my sweet spot!
All the best with deciding. It's not an easy decision to make. Keep us updated on what you finally decide to do. And if you can, I'd love to see this yellow mini in chevron! Here's my 12A mini square. Love it!!!
