So, is she just being used for her money? Are they not taking her seriously? If this is the case, then some of this makes sense to me.

They use her for mainstream exposure and she's got a big machine (RCA / Sony) behind her. Bet they're spending a lot of money on producers, money some of these producers would not have got from producing for an artist with less name recognition and "mainstream appeal", namely most urban acts.
Cash + exposure -> co-signing Miley's foolishness.

i just saw the topless version of the blurred lines video and i LOL. after miley's performance at the VMA's with RT a lot of people posted that Paula needs to say or do something bc miley crossed the line. however, that performance looks innocent now opposed to that video that was on a closed set, i'm sure. i wonder if paula was there during that shoot?

Saw an interview with RT, Paula was consulted and approved of the video. His quote was "she loved it", he said if she didn't approve he wouldn't of done it. Also saw an interview with his mother, Gloria Loring (not sure of last name, doesn't use Thicke) a soap star, she also approves. Just as an interesting twist the same time the video came out Paula had/has a movie coming out with Denzel Washington in which she appears topless, not sure how much else she shows, in a love scene. "Tit" for tat? Sorry couldn't resist.

Is this not exactly what Miley and her handlers wanted from this performance? For her to be the water cooler discussion of the week? Is this not what Madonna did when she felt she was becoming "irrelevant" with the younger MTV nation and planted a big old wet one on Brittney Spears at the very same Awards ceremony? The only difference being that our society has become so immune to what is allowed in main stream media when someone goes for shock value the performance must contain something very extreme in order to actually get talked about. I think Miley is doing exactly as she is told to by her handlers/management team to make the jump from Disney Princess to a performer for her peers not pre teens. That show had a TV14 on it, which meant no one under 14 should of been watching it, perhaps it should of had a stronger warning on it, not Miley's fault. I'm not sticking up for her but this is an issue of our society at large not just Miley Cirus. If this had been on a cable pay network, would we still be talking about it? Also for all the people who were outraged by it all they had to do was turn the channel and not give MTV the ratings, I also wonder how many people who were outraged by it went to the trouble to re watch it? This is a societal issue, not just a Cirus issue. I will repeat I am not a Cirus fan, and I'm not not a Cirus fan, really ambivalent about her. I just think the bigger issue is being overlooked.

Miley Cyrus rocks a sports bra and camouflage pants while heading out of a friend’s home following a photo shoot on Thursday afternoon (August 29) in Brentwood, Calif.

The 20-year-old entertainer, who arrived at the home earlier in the day wearing Levi’s jean shorts, reportedly headed to Kat Von D‘s tattoo shop later that night.

Any artist who is willing to make a spectacle of themselves is pretty much welcome because it gets people talking and hopefully buying again even if its not her records. As for producers, contracts can vary from being a flat fee to "points" on a record ($ per unit sold). Then you have mechanical rights and a lot of other crap but THEE main money making thing is PUBLISHING. Thats what everyone wants. Songwriting credit. You get paid royalties for the rest of your life on that. So no doubt the producers are getting most of it and Miley maybe 1/2. All she has to do is contribute (I believe she does write some lyrics).
Think of all this as if an artist dies. It gets people to look up their catalog, maybe buy the new crap or the old crap they always wanted or "hey, since I'm here, I always wanted that Britney record.....etc"

It all drives sales in an industry that needs it badly. So yeah. Every label welcomes it. Not just RCA.

Isn't that why Robin is trying to prevent the Gaye's from suing him? Think of how much Blurred Lines is going to bring him. If the Dream is not lying about Umbrella making him $15M just imagine what Blurred Lines could bring in for Thicke and Co. And then imagine how much they'd have to pay the Gaye estate. He offered them 6 figures when his probably going to clear 8 easily.

This is kind of off-topic but I always find it so interesting when people note Madonna kissed Britney Spears at the VMAs. They completely forget that she also kissed Christina Aguilera a second later
