I really cannot believe how this performance has been the topic of the week.

She's crazy, goofy. Is it genuine? Probably not. She has to stay as relevant as the next and knows that. I don't think she's playing the fame game (as in, I don't think she's clever enough to know what she's doing) but I also don't think she's smart enough to poke fun at any culture. I am not calling a racist smart, I am saying they have to have intentions and I don't see that in her.

Madonna did it before her, who knows who'll do it after her...they all shake their asses for $$$ and the world turns. Prior to Sunday I can't remember the last time I heard anyone say anything about MTV. They knew this would get a rise out of people.

EDIT: P.S. For those who do not live in major U.S. cities, is this seriously the first you've heard of twerking? This seems to have taken the world by storm due to Miley which is srsly strange to me.
I only learned about twerking on tPF. Very certain most people here have never heard of it, although Miley and Bieber (in case the musical tragedy called "Twerk" does well) might change this among youngsters.

Miley Cyrus is on a roll and it seems she really can’t stop – with the risqué behaviour, that is.

The once wholesome Disney star is on a racy streak and judging by her latest photo shoot, isn’t planning on slowing down any time.

Just in case we hadn’t seen enough, the 20-year-old has stripped to some skimpy ensembles to pose for Notion magazine.

There is nothing even remotely attractive about grabbing your crotch like that---Miley needs to cut it out...this crap is tacky as heck!

She was talking about religion...something this forum doesn't like to talk about/won't allow. Unless I missed another post of hers...:shrugs: (when she quoted me originally the response was a lot more negative before she/mods edited it, yikes...)

Sweetpea, I only used that particular post as an example, perhaps not a good example. Sorry if I didn't express myself clearly, being ESL.

She has a pile of cash and she is spending it on hitmakers. That is why the industry is co-signing on her. I'd love to see the budget for this album because at this point she is going to have to sell several million and tour extensively to turn a profit.

So, is she just being used for her money? Are they not taking her seriously? If this is the case, then some of this makes sense to me.

I honestly never heard of twerking before Miley, and I'm about her age. I had to Google twerking the first time I read about it on this thread because I didn't know what it meant.

Twerk, twerk, twerk, what you twerking with?!

As many songs have the word twerk in it now, I'm shocked that this is so surprising to people. I guess no one actually pays attention to any of the lyrics of these ratchet songs that seems to be so popular. Hell it jumped the shark so long ago...it's in pop songs.

I just don't get this twerking thing. Seems like the trends are just getting weirder and weirder.

First planking and now twerking. There's videos on YouTube where someone is "twerking" the counter at Dunk'n Donuts. Ummm, what's the point?

Maybe I'm just too old...

twerking has been around since the early 90s not exactly a new trend.
