I think Steve and the producers will pick up more awards than the actors this season.

As long as the movie get something. A lots of the American's awards are more about who has more friends or who did a better campaign than about the actual work (Not just the oscar, but also the screen actor guild...) For example, last year, there is no way that Jennifer Lawrence was better than Emmanuelle Riva. At least, in my opinion, the BAFTA tends to awards it to people that actually deserve it (i.e Emmanuelle Riva last year).

I got the impression (even though Poland was diplomatic) that DP was a little taken aback by the personality change between the friendly, personable Fassbender and the guy who kind of went after him for a misquote.

And I expect we won't be seeing any DP/30 Fassbender interviews for a while.

I agree. I hope Mr Fassbender forgives DP. I really enjoy DPs interviews. He usually manages to put people at ease and he does his research, unlike some of the so-called journos out there.

I don't think I've heard the story on Poland v. Fassy. Michael was upset about Poland misquoting him? What did he misquote him on? TIA.

In 2009, Michael did an interview with DP for Fish Tank and said he had no issues going after bigger budget studio films. He was all for it. Fast forward to DP's interview in 2011 with Carey Mulligan for Shame. He asked Carey about working with Gosling and Fassbender and the differences between them and editorialized by saying that Gosling seemed to be staying far away from studio fare. Then he basically said that Michael told him that he was willing to sell out. That is twisting his words a bit. MF saw the interview with Carey and was not happy at all.

RE: NYFCC

Apparently there was a hardcore anti-12 Years contingent and another contingent that was very pro.

It almost won Best Film, and Chiwetel, Lupita, and Michael were contenders in their categories.

This is somewhat similar to what happened in 2011. Michael and Carey were the runner-ups to the winners that year.

It usually comes down to politics and which actors will come to awards shows. I rarely agree with the winners. I don't think Jennifer, Silver Linings and Argo deserved all the praise they got.

Thanks Mollie. I can understand why Michael was upset. Most smart actors try to do a mix of big budget films with artsy indie films. It's not selling out...just good buisness. I'm guessing not many actors (even the "serious minded" ones) would pass on a gig in the Star Wars franchise for example.

Agreed, especially with Argo. It was a terrible movie that wasnt factually accurate. Affleck has kissed alot of *** in order to make that movie (and got in real good with Clooney who has insane clout)

I think McAvoy is terrific but I know a lot of guys who can not stand him, I asked a lot of dudes and I was surprised by the uniformity of their dislike for him. I don't know if anyone else finds that to be the case.

On the other hand most of them looooved Fassbender, it was almost too much to bear.

Penis envy lol...thats why guys dont like him

Yeah and Poland mentioned it in two separate interviews it must have really bugged him or perhaps he was hoping Fassbender would watch the interviews and take it as an apology. Maybe the whole thing was a misunderstanding and it was Fassbender's publicist who watched the Mulligan interview and put the kibosh on an interview for TYAS. Either way I agree with you, there won't be a DP/30 Fassbender interview for a while.

I think I've watched the majority of the DP/30 interviews and Poland does have a number of stock questions, I literally count the minutes until he asks the careerist related question and I can sympathise with actors who are a bit taken aback by the way he phrases some questions because there are times where it feels like he's fishing for a specific answer or viewpoint. But overall I find Poland to be very sympathetic to his interviewees and I can't recall many actors that have come off badly in his interviews.

So I don't get why Fassbender or his team would be offended by Poland's little faux pas. It seems like such a silly thing to get worked up about.

ITA! Perhaps Fassy felt a bit screwed over, since they had such good rapport during previous interviews?

This is from the newest issue of W Magazine (with Clooney).

Well I' ve seen both interviews & I felt his 'sell-out' comment was a bit harsh. Even Carey Mulligan was taken aback. As a journalist he should be more careful about labeling someone a sell-out especially to others working in the industry. I also find it hard to believe that Fassy would' ve said he wanted to go "Hollywood". He seems to be choosing to do a mix of Hollywood & Indie films...don't think he would change this in the future to be the next Tom Cruise :what:

Twelve Years A Slave got its groove back! It won the Boston Online Critics Awards below :

Best Picture
Best Director - Steve McQueen
Best Actor - Chiwetel Ejiofor
Best Supporting Actress - Lupita Nyong’o
Best Editing
Best Original Score

Ah well still keeping fingers crossed for Fassbender onto the next awards to win at least something.

He'll squeak out a win eventually. He was nominated by the DC Film Critics. And the film got 11 noms total.

ETA: Am I the only one who has no interest in all this Oscar handicapping? I can't believe all the time some people spend analyzing award wins and pundits' predictions.

I think the real reason why Michael didn't make the DP30 interview was lack of time. I think he's such a easy going guy, he doesnt seem the type that keeps grudges. He may have been upset when he heard the comment but then forgot. He's shooting movie after movie again. I think he gave way more interviews to promote Shame than TWAS. Even that he wasn't the main character this time, usually he do waaaay more interviews/magazines/tv when he's promoting a movie PLUS: I felt that he was kinda tired of dissert about his character because of the fact that most people, including critics, were kinda 'limited' on the judgment of Epps by resuming him in just "evil" or "villain". Michael said in several interviews that he thought it was a limited judgment. Also, on the Elle magazine interview he said that he doesn't like to talk about his work. So, maybe, spend 30 minutes talking about it wasn't something he was willing to.
