Congratulations to all of the nominees of the Independent Spirit Awards - I hope this will help 12TAS to be regarded as art long after it has left the cinema and consciousness of the public. It is at least an acknowledgement of the work and artistry of the entire production. Once again Congratulations!!

Supporting Actor is actually shaping up to be a much more competitive category for the Oscars than people originally thought. Bradley Cooper and Jonah Hill are almost certain to be major contenders (and they're also nearly co-leads of their films). Jared Leto looks like a lock. James Gandolfini is a real possibility, as is Barkhad Abdi and Will Forte. All three of them are larger presences in their films than MF is in 12YAS. I can actually see a scenario playing out where MF gets snubbed, especially if AMPAS doesn't admire 12 Years as much as prognosticators are predicting.

I think Leto, Fassbender and Gandolfini are getting nominated. If Michael isn't nominated I would hope Abdi or Gandolfini get in. In the end a nomination is just a bonus for Michael whereas, someone like Abdi could get a career boost from it. And it would be a nice honor for Gandolfini.

Sarah Paulson talks for a couple minutes about Michael in her DP/30 interview, which was posted today.

Cool :) I was just about to watch her interview...

In David Poland's Carey Mulligan interview they also (very) briefly talk about Fassbender, although it wasn't about her experience working with him but rather about how Fassbender was "angry" with something Poland said.

Jonah Hill? WTF! The fact that he got nominated for Money Ball was a bloody joke. Is he actually any good in whatever role he might be nominated for?

I have no doubt that Gandolfini will get nominated. I liked Enough Said, but his performance wasn't fantastic. I do prefer him to be nominated over Jonah Hill.
I haven't seen TYAS yet, but they need to give Michael the nod, just to make up for the snub of 2 years ago.

I'd rather have them give him the nod because because he deserves it and not to make it up for something, it'd be demeaning somehow, like they gave Denzel Washington the Oscar for Training Day whereas we know it was a much lesser performance, not only compared to his previous ones but also compared to the other contenders in the BA category that year.

... then again the Academy is very much demeaning so...

Ah I just watched the Sarah Paulson interview and I see they spoke about the same thing as in the Carey Mulligan interview

I got the impression (even though Poland was diplomatic) that DP was a little taken aback by the personality change between the friendly, personable Fassbender and the guy who kind of went after him for a misquote.

And I expect we won't be seeing any DP/30 Fassbender interviews for a while.

Hi everyone, I am a faithful reader of this thread finally coming out of the closet :smile1:.
My English is not so good so, please, bear with me.

Mollie, I am not a native English speaker, and certainly not an English language expert, but Poland's choice of the verb was a very bad one IMO, Carey Mulligan's surprised expression says it all.
If someone said about me "She likes to sell out", I'd be really pissed off.

That being said, I hope that DP will be soon forgiven because his 2009 Fish Tank interview to MF is one of my all time favourite.
