Just sharing. So with my man we were chatting about feminism, sexism and equality etc. Our convo went into celeb territory, he said (his opinion) that Fassbender could never be with a woman as equally as successful as he is, I asked him why and he said that Fassbender loves to have fun and his way with the women and even though he said he liked confident women, he's a man and men like to be ahead, their ego is there. I asked him what about Pitt & Jolie, Pitt seems to be fine with it, and he said that Brad is a follower I couldn't help but

True THAT!!! You can clearly see that Angie wears the pants in this relationship simply because she gave him something he desired for years ... children. Jennifer refused him that due to wanting a career. Along comes Angelina willing to pop out some kids and looking good while doing so, and he's all warm butter in her hands. :p

A photo from TIFF with the Variety studio. Reminds me that I find the lines around his eyes really attractive.

And I guess he's back in New Zealand.

Nice pic!

I can see it. He's always reminded me of my friend (and they actually have the same birthday) who dated all these career women but married the woman who was willing to be a SAHM. He really takes care of her but they have very traditional roles.

And somewhat related, someone copied a post from Nicole's FB about change being painful but necessary and not being stifled. They were wondering if it was a reference to Michael.

Say huh?? The reaching  people project their imgination that everything she does will always or mostly be related to Fassbender... I mean she could have posted that quote based on either an experience or about growing up and letting go of things, it could be a message like a general leitmotiv and move forward, change is scary but one must do it... I could think of bazillion ways that it's a motivational quote but people will do the mental gymnastics.

Reminds me of when I post quotes on my Facebook, people feel somehow that it's directed at them, like duuuude calm down :D

re - Fassbender, hmmm it could be... I agree he seems like the type of man who would prefer a low profile woman (but then again hopefully treat her well) and not a high profile one, even if the high profile woman was great and low key, the ego of careers... but who knows eh...

I can see his point. I can see it in other actors as well. Could be why Leo dates models and Clooney dates C-listers and wannabes. And don't all actors *say* they want a strong, confident woman? When in reality they want a woman who happily stays in their shadow? It's like when they say they're searching for the right one to settle down with when really they're having the time of their life playing the field. Just good sound bites for interviews.

Actually, the death knell for many celeb couples comes if the woman becomes just as famous or even eclipses the man (Bruce & Demi, Reese W. & Ryan Phillipe).

Most of Michael's gfs are women he's worked with or met through the buisness. They've careers of their own but no where near Michael's level. I can see him sticking to that. I have a hard time picturing him in a 'Brangelina' relationship.

Movie star and Twizel in love with each other
The female customers at Shawty's Cafe in the sleepy Canterbury town of Twizel are swooning with a dashing Hollywood star in their midst. Michael Fassbender (Prometheus, X Men: First Class) is in Twizel to shoot his film Slow West, but he's quickly making friends among the locals for his lack of airs and graces.

"He's so beautiful," said one local grandmother. "He's got lovely big blue eyes and a gorgeous smile. He smiles at us every morning when he comes in to Shawty's to get his morning coffee.

"You wouldn't know he's a big Hollywood star. He talks to people and is really friendly and chatty. He's been here about three weeks now."

Principal photography got under way this week, with Twizel doubling as 19th- century Colorado. Filming on the Western - about a 17-year-old travelling across the American Frontier to search for the woman he loves, accompanied by a mysterious traveller - will also take place in the Scottish Highlands.

Cast and crew of the UK-NZ feature film, which has financing from the New Zealand Film Commission, are staying in various houses around town. But it's Fassbender locals want to see.

"He's been great for business," laughed Shawty's proprietor Troy Sheridan. "He's very modest and shy, but he laughed when my wife told him he's bringing in customers. Mostly the ladies, of course."

Fassbender, who grew up in the small Irish settlement of Killarney, is enjoying working in the small South Island town. "He's so accommodating and approachable," Sheridan said. "He comes in every day. He said he loves Twizel. He loves small towns. He's from a small town himself with only 12,000 people."

Fassbender plays both lead actor (the mysterious traveller Silas) and debut producer on the film, through his private production company DMC Film. He joins producers Iain Canning and Emile Sherman from See-Saw Films, a London- and Sydney-based production company behind the Jane Campion-directed TV drama Top of the Lake, and Kiwi film and television producer Rachel Gardner.

Other Kiwis on production include Academy Award-winning art director Kim Sinclair, Whale Rider costume designer Kirsty Cameron and The Hobbit make-up artist Dannelle Satherley.

From Variety:

James McAvoy on Michael Fassbender as Edwin Epps in “12 Years a Slave”
I'm trying to get to the bottom of why my friend, someone I know and love, put terror in me. Perhaps the answer is obvious: He plays a bad man during a time in history where a person was deemed inferior due to the color of their skin.

The inferiority was often felt through slavery, where these people would be tortured, humiliated and punished among many other atrocities. It is a terrifying truth that this happened in the past and continues to happen today in differing circumstances on our planet.

So why did Michael Fassbender terrify me so much?

I think it's because when I watch his unflinching work in this film, I not only believe in his hatred of those he enslaves (perhaps even of himself and his own family) but I also believe that anything could happen. Many actors can portray “darkness” and there is no doubt he has done that with great skill. But with Michael's performance in “12 Years a Slave” he does something that few actors are able to pull off — he makes us believe at all times while he is on screen that anything could happen, that we the audience are not safe to trust that our hero will prevail.

History has taught us that anything could happen to this slave, but Michael's performance makes us understand the helplessness felt in the face of such animal irrationality in that place and time.

Unpredictable, irrational, ruled by his instincts and possibly entirely by his fears, Michael's performance as the slave-owning Epps terrifies me. Not just because he's good at “playing dark” but because it suggests to me that the animal within is never far away and that it will constantly be on the lookout for a society in which to nest.

Beautifully put together and eloquent, one can tell that McAvoy was humbled by watching the film and explained Fassbender performance in a very thoughtful way, unlike Franco's failed attempt at whatever that was but definitely self-centered as per usual.

Daniel Radcliffe: 'I ask myself, would Michael Fassbender do it?' - video interview

It really seems genuine. It's doesn't sound like something he (or an assistant) threw together.

It must be a great feeling to have so many of your peers admire and respect you.

I think McAvoy is terrific but I know a lot of guys who can not stand him, I asked a lot of dudes and I was surprised by the uniformity of their dislike for him. I don't know if anyone else finds that to be the case.

On the other hand most of them looooved Fassbender, it was almost too much to bear.
