Ah nepotism, thy name is Hollywood.

I tend to enjoy the success stories of middle/working-class peeps a bit more, because one knows they had to swim against the current like crazy to get to the top... and probably sacrificed loads to get there, money being the 1st sacrifice.

Indeed! Same goes for a lot of the rich kids in the film, music and fashion industry. Are they there because they're great at the job? No, a lot of them are useless, lazy and unmotivated, but they can afford to work for free and they have good contacts.

Fassy misbehaving again:

Tony RE Ansell‏@Toe_Edge

Just found out that Michael Fassbender is a drunk who lives in Hackney!

I really wouldn't be surprised if he's a highly functional alcoholic. I've never read anything about lack of professionalism on set because of alcohol. Unlike, say, Colin Farrell. But in his free time, it seems like he goes nuts.

Me neither. As long as it doesn't affect his work we won't find out if he does have a real drinking problem. Cronenberg jokily said that Michael was playing himself in Shame and that he should have won the Venice award for ADM instead.

Hey all! I guess I missed something. How do we know that he's misbehaving? He's been seen out and about but we all go out and about. Did anyone mention him doing anything "bad"? That person tweeted that they just found out that he's a "drunk that lives in Hackney." Did they elaborate on that? I didn't check it out on Twitter so I'm wondering if it's just someone who's talking sh*t on Twitter because they can (you know, like everyone on twitter). Just concerned about him being labeled as 'misbehaving' or rumors being spread and people believing and spreading more rumors that he's some kind of drunk or even functional alcoholic when we don't really have proof of such. People go out and get drunk all the time (some of them are friends of mine) but I wouldn't label them as alcoholics. But if I missed something, let me know.

being a good person and multiquoting - forumdunce!

Also here, he is described as,
''He’s more accessible than Daniel Day-Lewis or Clive Owen, edgier than Colin Firth, more believable in period pieces than Brad Pitt, more elegant than Daniel Craig or Ryan Reynolds, and manlier than the newly hatched batch of twentysomething superheroes-to-be.”

Sure would love to really know what the real Fassbender is like, le sigh ;-)
All those fem-journalist - like that article in the globe and mail thanks - seem to go on about how charming he is...interviews are work so he must be v.aware and good with his manner and looks. I always wonder if he might be like a friend - my german pal is known in his field, he's gorgeous, phenomenal energy, can party and work all-night and day, super ambitious, flirty sweet and all-round charmer. We all joke about him and if I wasn't totally attached, even though he's slept with most of my friends, I would do him ... like most females. But he's seems diff from Fass as he has impeccable taste and is cautious/conservative (well, he's full german :p). Liking thatat Michael is at the start of his fandom, more to find out!
Also, twitter is freakin' better than GPS, you know more about a person's geography than a singular tracking device, that is scary!

But generally speaking I agree with Artica & you.

There are so many talentless people who only has a career because of their parents are rich and/or famous...

Yep, you can't hold someone's background against them either in snobbery or reverse snobbery. Also, cost aside, the purely teaching-side of Harrow and Eton would be incredible.
To be completely honest I often get really annoyed with the attitudes of people with a lot of funds and/or 'breeding', for me that schtick gets constantly dragged into projects but it does make the work more interesting, fun or productive.
But my rant is not necessarily to do with the actors MF and Cumberbatch, I believe they do things in their work beyond biography.

Does not necssarily have to be about physical substances, but I believe most driven people are high-fuctioning whateva's.
Also Cronenburgs just spinning the bottle of Michael's notoriety onto his own projects for the hustle of present and future financing, but like everything that gets out am sure there may be a combination of both truth and fiction!

Welcome !

And on other things...this poster has come out, sorry if someone has already put this on the forum. http://collider.com/12-years-a-slave-image-synopsis/124115/
I think its boring but its just the first promo.

mmmm, lovely title x

It will be interesting to see if McQueen changes his approach to filming 12 Years a Slave. I'm not sure his quiet artsy style will be as effective in telling a story about slavery. The audience can't be left to wonder about the background of the characters and what's going on in the narrative. I'm looking foward to this film.

We don't! I was just joking around. :p That twitter guy probably just ran into a drunk Fassy at the after-party. Of course there is a difference between being drunk and being a drunk, but I wouldn't worry about it. The Fassmeister is obviously enjoying his free time as he should.

Indeed! Didn't he call him a wild Irish boy.

Me too. I spoke to a woman about Steve McQueen last Monday and she called him a ****. She had only seen 'Deadpan' and she was not impressed at all. I think he's come a long way from that and I can't wait to see what he does with 12 years. I think it might cement his future as a director or it will do the exact opposite.
