Gotta admit after seeing all those pics of Fassbender smoking totally AGREE with the general dispproval here about images of the actor killings his lungs + its so irresponsible to do that as a public figure. Hate how smoking in independent films and the neu'cool mags makes puffing come back with a vengance.

That said, while I never smoke in the day, the minute I go to a party/orboring dinner party am totally out the door loving smoking an illicit cigarette with pals. Also have a pavlov dogs reaction when I see Fassbender pics (but in photo only) with him smoking! Damn him!
Well, he's certainly not going to quit smoking for his fans & probably will continue just to be spiteful. I hope he does give quitting a chance, I want him around in another 20 yrs.

Agreed, I quite enjoyed his take on this character :) (good enought to make me forget about the fluctuating accent!). Looking forward to Prequel X2, though I hope they'll still focus on McAvoy's Prof X. Seems from Kinberg's comments that they really want to focus it on Magneto, especially in the wake of Fassbender's good performance.
Actually, looking at Kinberg's writing creds, am just hoping that the reason he was first assigned was bc of a contractual clause on the last pic giving him first dibs on the script, with Vaughn taking over with Goldman for a total rewrite.

I don't think his accent is all that bad, with the exception of the beach scenes. Those were the first ones filmed, so I think Vaughn changed his mind and asked Michael to change his accent after those scenes.

I hope he's working on his American accent for The Councillor, though. It was ok, but not great in Shame.

Sorry, can't figure out how to post on multiple bits yet, but anyways...love that Viggo, while he's pretty careful about public image, seems like a more open filter now and he's pretty honest opinion on what he thinks bout another film which is getting lot of attention - I also agree with much of his assessment.

Its boring when most actors and filmakers have to constantly couch their opinions diplomatically in print, whereas when if you really talk to them in conversation there is real discussion about the critical/public discussion about each wk. I think if everyone said more openly what they thought about others film you would get better films being made, less about the LWD (lowest common demoninator) marketing and conception etc.

This is no endorsement of Viggo's acting :smile1: not that revelatory and unfortch he's not a chameleon. But people should be more honest and smart/critical in general about the scene in media, rather than the politicians/smile-talent they are now expected to be.
Yet to see ADM, booked in to see it soon on big screen, rather than the one I downloaded already ;-). While he has made plenty of bad movies, Cronenburg is faaaaaarrr more influential to filmakers than flippin' Ron Howard and yet he has no real awards on the US market?! That is Bizarro

Viggo's remarks are very ballsy. I like his honesty. The film obviously wasn't for him, which is fair enough. I watched ADM twice and I nearly fell asleep the 2nd time. I've seen Shame 6 times and that film still moves me. ADM is slow and boring and completely mis-sold as some S&M flick, which it is not.

There are still lots of posters of the film in the tube stations around LND. (Always nice to see Michael) The posters mentions that the film contains strong sex scenes. Are they serious? It's the most tame and vanilla shizz ever.

OMG sorry but I don't see what you guys see in this guy! Boring and weird!

Michael is a lot of things but boring is not one of them. He has a colorful Irish personality and unlike some actors dabbles in film, directing, producing, biking, and yes, even dancing :p An example of 'boring' for me is my gorgeous but generically bland Alexander Skarsgard (who I love to death.) Pretty to look at but painfully manufactured (unlike his pal Joel Kinnaman who IMO is far more interesting) and in my opinion compared to Michael exceedingly boring. And as for weird...

Please elaborate about the boring and weird part. I'd love to know why you would think that.

Umm, he is boring and he is weird! That's why I think that!

Your opinion! Though I don't get why saying that Alexander is boring makes Michael interesting! They could BOTH be boring! Sorry for saying my opinion in a gossip thread, xxxx

Why are you saying sorry? State your opinion. It's a thread so say what's on your mind! I used Alex as my personal example of someone who I find boring and uninteresting *shrugs*

Yeah, I think Kinnaman's going to go far if he plays his cards right. His HWood trajectory reminds me a bit of the Fass, in the sense that he's getting some good role offerings, and he's got the acting chops to back it up so it'll lead to more and more opportunities. They both have that kind of face that can easily convince as leading man/leading villain/antihero.

The Hong Kong film festival starts soon. (where I live now) Shame is sold out - good job. Booked to see some v.good docos + films. The huge punchline is that the only hollywd celeb flying in is Keanu Reeves, he is booked to give a master class?! I mean dude can't act...we should be giving him a master class, everyone is joking about this.
Ann Hui's actress Deanie Yip (she won best actress in Venice which was kinda overshadowed by Michael's showy best actor win :-(. My partner knows Hui, the director, so I am looking forward to this screening the most.

Which ones will you see at the HKFF? There's some pretty good selections culled from different festivals (some as new as Berlinale 2012), very nice. Maybe Keanu will surprise the class and teach 'em about the art of making a documentary rather than his thespian insights ;) !

 I know no one who has seen it (i'm assuming you mean the re-make). I'm old enough to remember the original and I have a lot of love for it. So I have no intention of watching the new one. Tell me, what was so "WTF?" about the new one? I never even bothered to read the reviews.

I...I...I didn't hate it. *runsawayinshame* :D

I like the original Footloose but didn't revere it, so had a surprising fun time watching the dance choreographies of the remake, which doesn't pretend to reinveint the wheel. Now, if they were to remake Sound of Music ... I'd probably shank a ***** or two .

hi girls (and boys?! )... i'm quite a new fassy fan myself, but for sure he made a huge impression on me... i've had like star crushes so far (haven't we all), but this time he hit me pretty hard (and not the leasi style btw :D )... i really can't put my finger on it (no pun intented ;) ), he's just like, "you know", wooow! seriously, after having watched almost all of his interviews available on youtube in like 2 days or so, i had to create a tumblr account just to stare at this hunk for hours... hmm, should i get scheduled for like a special consult or so? :)) and well, since fan crushes are all about appreciating the artist's work while drooling over his ....... (feel free to fill in the looooong blanks :P ), i'm also v curious about his personal life as well... as far as i've read so far on imdb and this forum, here seems to be a certain openness about the subject, which i personally find just bs free... so any new scoops :giggles: ? anywho, glad to join this thread.

I'm new to this thread, hello everyone :smile1:
I read your last posts and I have one question: what is so interesting in Fassbender and Kinnaman in real life? When I read or listen their interviews, they seems to me very boring, too :graucho: (I ask only from curiosity, becouse I like Joel a lot, though Fassbender a little less)

Hey Jooa and Mimi, welcome to the thread!
When I compared them, I was referencing their acting style-something that differentiates them from more generic peers, not so much their offscreen persona.
Boring's relative maybe? I've seen more Fassbender movies than Kinnaman ones, so the following is more Fass-centric -- if I really like an actor/actress' talent, I tend to be relieved, for lack of a better word, that they seemingly have heads on their shoulders and are not asshats in real life - doesn't mean I want them to be PC, vanilla boring, or studio-PR groomed (I don't think he is). It just turns me completely off when I immensely admire someone's performance, only to later read that they're awful to everyone within sight.

Mimi... worse pun ever! :noggin: -kidding :).
