As English is my second language, I didn't get the "sweating like a cornered Nun". Can somebody explain it to me? Thanks.

Haha. I speak English and was raised Catholic and I still don't get it. Maybe because nuns are chaste and celibate, and so if they were cornered...?

It just cracked me up, the way he said it. I bet after a day spent with him, people's faces hurt from smiling and laughing so much.

I understood it as exactly that. A cornered nun is tempted to give in, probably. Living in celibate and then cornering her and offering her sex would make her sweat over the decision. :D

that statistic about the "academy" is not surprising at all. look at how many black films have been overlooked and dismissed over the years. the color purple was nominated for 11 awards and didn't take home one!

Don't forget Malcom X... at the very least Denzel should have gotten the oscar for that. I can name so many movies in the last 4 decades that were passed over, not that it matters much now. The one good thing is that in the long run most people don't remember who won what and when, but what they do remember is a great film.

Definitely not surprising about the academy statistics although I would have thought there would have been more women, say at least 40%... I guess I'm naive.

This has been bothering me for quite some time and the sweating nuns reminded me of it... Fassbender, in the newsweek roundtable:erotic memories clip, mentions velcro gloves (at about 1:55) in reference to sheep. I have to ask wtf is he on about? I'm young and impressionable and I don't understand every kinky reference.;)

I may not be the best person explaining this to you as English is my second language. I also have diffuculties when it comes to kinky references :p but when I first heard it like you, I googled and urban dictionary helped me to understand it. I hope, it also works for you;

Snow - this is another one of our many sayings.... but it can be quite rude!:shame::shame:

Yes - Malcom X was so important, your right, overlooked badly.

Ummmm, its another fun look at the dirty pysche of Fassbender......I mean if you going to 'boink' a sheep than having velcro gloves would make it better for your hands to stick onto the fur while you're behind them...OMG LMFAO! Cant believe I just explained, tee hee, really hope your over 15!

Also, "sweating like a cornered nun" is only happy if she's like cornered by a Fassbender, otherwise I think the inference is prob more non-consensual hence the funny wrongness of the joke!

I read a brief article about Steve McQueen today where he discussed the Oscar snub. If the academy is primarily composed of older, white males then the snub makes sense.

While dropping trou in "Shame" got Michael Fassbender a few infamous mentions (George Clooney comparing the actor's penis to a golf club, for instance), it might have been a bit too scandalous for the Academy's taste.

Fassbender and "Shame" did not light up 2012's nominations, contrary to the critical acclaim the film received. The reason for this, according to "Shame" director Steve McQueen, was as plain as day: the Fassboner.

"In America they're too scared of sex, that's why he wasn't nominated. If you look at the best actor list you're saying, 'Michael Fassbender is not on that list?' It's kind of crazy. But that's how it is, it's an American award, let them have it."

The great Fassbender snub has not tarnished the director's view of his muse -- they have worked on two previous films together, with a third on the way -- but McQueen just wants you to know he's not like, married to the guy or anything.

"It's all about the script, if Michael's the right person for the character and if he likes the script. What I like about our relationship is it's not tied, it's not a marriage, it's friendship and it's done out of respect of each other's talents and each other's love of film."
Love that McQueen is trying to distance himself from the "marriage" part of working with Michael and also when he says "its an American award, let them have it.":okay:
That's a ballsy thing to put out there!

I'm still upset at Whoopi not winning an Oscar for The Color Purple. And then that "we're sorry we screwed you over last year" makeup Oscar for Ghost was bullsh*t, IMO. She was good in Ghost but she was great in The Color Purple and should have won for that. F*cking Hollywood.

Oh, and Minxx, your location made me laugh :)

Ikr and the fact that he brings it up at an oscar roundtable of all places... too funny! I suppose

Yup I'm over 15 just not that clued up on bestiality :giggles::laugh:;) I'm still laughing at the reference and the detail supplied by whoever came up with it first. :giggles:

Completely!

Re "its an american award, let them have it": I am not at all surprised that he said this. It's a very 'Steve McQueen' thing to say

As for the whole "marriage" thing. I never thought that Steve thought that he needed Michael in order to be successful. I know some people were concerned that he may be using him or hanging on too closely to him but if you really listen to the man when he speaks, I'm not sure how anyone could think this. And it's only ever been Michael who has been saying over and over again how "Steve changed my life" and making it seem like he'd be down to do anything that Steve brought to him. I don't think Steve thinks he needs to be "dependent" upon anyone in order to do what he wants to do. I love what he said in that article.

Totally agree!
Okay this my bias, as I have bleated on before rah blah blah, I still really appreciate the work of McQueen from the beginning of his art to the larger narrative films now. He's completely an original and DEF. one of the most important artists working today. Admire him as he's both singular and developing a mainstream film career - v. interesting development for me to watch and learn from. He did make Fassbender's career in the beginning but was a good match in terms of timing, talent and ability on both sides. For sure, I could criticise lots of parts of McQueens work - plenty of possibilty for pretentious endless shots and structural issues with the script and content...but heck he's still one of the most interesting film makers around. :salute:
