I doubt that reason he was snubbed is because of the issue with ROC. His chances have always been 50/50. Charlize was snubbed too I just noticed.

True. Telling sign was Michael not getting SAG nomination. As for Charlize, she never stood a chance for Best Actress IMHO. The category was packed this year.

Ditto.

The oscar/nominations for best male performance almost always goes to older actors, just compare the average age of male nominees to female nominees. I think Fassbender is at the start of his career and everyone figures there will be opportunities down the road...

So what I'm saying is... Pitt and Clooney are the old cows and Fassbender is the new cow...**too bad there's no appropriate cow smiley to insert here but there appears to be a dog smiley**
... Soooooo what I'm saying is Fassbender is the new dog and Pitt and Clooney are his b*tches... :doggie:

Plus I wouldn't have said it a few months ago but there have actually been quite a few really good performances this year.

IA. I know that some of you don't like Clooney but he deserved his nom. I had a chance to see The Descendants last week and I liked it a lot. In fact, I might go and see it again. Honestly I get why people may not like this movie, thinking it's slow, boring or whatever, but honestly the way the subject of the movie was approached and whole film was executed, it couldn't have been better. Stories like this can easily become patetic and cheap but The Descendants didn't.

Michael not being nominated doesn't have to do with Clooney and Pitt being HW royalty or Fox not investing enough in Michael's campaign. I think it has more to do with Shame being incomplete movie. It was an interesting and different film for sure but compared to other films I've seen, it didn't leave such a strong impression. Loose and vague script didn't work well with Steve's long takes IMHO. That's why Michael's performance didn't stand out as much as others and that could have been the reason why Shame wasn't popular among Academy and SAG voters.

Really glad for Oldman, yes. It's criminal how underappreciated he was all these years (but I will argue that while he is great in Tinker Tailor, it's not his best personal role yet, and none of the nominated roster best Fassbender's). Snow8, your analogies are hilarious! And so spot-on.

Nah, not implying that ROC was ever a factor in the snub at all. But it has resurfaced in an untimely manner, and seeing how was it basically ignored/swept under the rug, leaves me perplexed. Usually movie aficionados don't care for this type of gossip but even some of them jumped on the topic on movie boards, and lots openly wished for his snub, from then on. He's not popular yet as a tabloid fixture: his fanbase is still basically cinephiles. Why risk alineating even them, what's the career longevity logic there?

But back to nicer Fass topics. Perhaps he'll get to be a presenter (and streak naked across the stage) and still get the opportunity to bring his mom down the red carpet ;)

Whoever is behind that story, knew well what they were doing. Timing was perfect. Right off GGs and Clooney's remark, with reports of Michael's party hopping and before announcement of Oscar noms. I would even venture out and say that the person behind the story knew well that Michael won't be nominated at all. Simply because juicy gossip story would have garnered more attention if Michale were Oscar nominee. Sure story would have been old but it would make a splash after all.

In a way, ignoring this story was a smart move but only because THR and Newsweek roundtable came almost right away. So this story got buried under lots of positive nad good press. The only ones who freaked out were people on boards, IMDB and a few bloggers. However, I do hope Michael decides to hire big player as his personal publicist because someone like that can make stories like this go away quickly.

Thanks for posting will check it out. I like Octavia. I hope she won't be like Mo'nique and disappear again.

That's how things work here in the UK. The pub is THE place to hook-up with someone random. Most people's social lives revolve around the pubs so if you don't drink you're screwed.

If Fassy lives in London Fields then he doesn't live on Mare Street. The park is a short walking distance from the High Street.

I read on twitter than he's in Atlanta, Georgia at the moment.

For serious??? I used to live there (hated it!). Wonder what the hell he's doing there. Okay, Nancy Drews, time to get on this!:p

yes, they dated briefly several years ago. she seems so quiet and nice, whereas he's such an arrogant a**hole.. but maybe she likes sex fetish too :graucho:
BTW the description of QT's penis (if true) is hilarious : QT has the most unattractive penis I have ever seen (short. fat. nub-like. The chode of all chodes.) :roflmfao::laugh:

LMFAO!!! That is disgusting. I can't respect this man anymore now I know about his chode (I actually had to google that word).

F#ck I didn't even think about that, damn right he was with Zoe during that whole year. So if the gossip is true, he cheated on her with that girl obvs probably others :lecture:Maybe they weren't exclusive but Zoe did cheat on Penn with Fassy at TIFF so I guess she's no angel either

Actually we don't know how long they were together. Perhaps they only started to do the nasty after a few months. Nah...Who am I kidding?! He probably tapped that a$$ on the first day of shooting. ;)

Yeah  Won't enjoy Tarantino's films as much as I did after that

-'Can I suck your toe?'
Normal reaction would be more like:
 -'WTF?! Get outta here you freak!! What is wrong with you man?! Did your mommy forgot to feed you or something?'
Some girls have no self-esteem whatsoever

:laugh::laugh: That's some twisted mind you got there ;) If he ever asks me something like that I'll probably run for my life

But there are a lot worse f#cked up sh*t out there like golden showers, wheelchairs...
http://www.yourtango.com/2012130680/top-5-weirdest-celeb-fetishes :wtf:

LOL! A colleague of mine works on certain shoots that are more of the Fetish nature. He did this video shoot once where 2 models had their toes sucked by this freak. It was only about 10 minutes work, but they got paid lots of money for it. That the recession for ya! ;)

BagOuttaHell, hope you'll check out the movie, it's quite a stunner.

Am optimistic that you ladies are right about this. He's a good cookie, that Fassbender. And racking up quite the # of frequent flier miles too :D...being in a plane at least forces the lad to sleep and rest :)

I thought Clooney was overbearing, too. He probably thinks he has to take the lead on everything or no one will participate but 1) that's not the case and 2) he has a very specific, Hollywood insidery (despite his attempts to front otherwise) career.
edited to add - I think Michael was trying to draw Viola out, I don't think he was being naive but maybe I am being naive about him being naive.

ITA. Clooney always repeats the same stories. It's great when you have other members of the group who don't talk a lot, but most of these people would have had great stories to tell. Intead all we got was Clooney telling the same old stories. We get it George! You're from Kentucky!!!!

I thought Michael was trying to keep the conversation going too. He should know very well that it's dificult for black women to find Hollywood. He's dated 2 of them. That is, if you wanna call ROC an actress. ;)

Thoughtful, albeit naive, in my opinion. I admit I was taken aback by it, to be honest. I seriously wondered if he was joking. I mean, is it because he's European and male that he's just not as knowledgeable about present day racial politics in America (with respect to his industry, anyway)? But Viola answered him in a very diplomatic way. I'm sure she knew he was being sincere in asking the question. I just assumed he'd know better. I mean, there are people on this thread from Europe who know better.

Of course we know better, because that same thing applies here. Why do you think lots of black and asian Brits work in the US? Because there's hardly any work for them here. Idris Elba had to go to America to build a career, before he finally received some decent work offers in his own country. It's disgusting!!

Hope you all don't mind if I interrupt, it's been a while since I posted, I've been away and it's taken a while to catch up.

^^ Exactly

Clooney and Pitt were always a shoo-in and so I guess Oldman bumped him off the list.

The only bummer will be that he won't make an appearance at the oscars.

Welcome back Snow8!! It was either Oldmand Or Bichir who bumped him and Leo off the list. Bloody shame if you ask me.

Someone mentioned that AMPAS members would probably vote for Bichir, because most of them all have illigal immigrants working for them so they would recognize the story more.

I also can't shake the feeling that if the Weinsteins had picked up Shame, Michael probably would have been nominated today. Of course they could have buried the entire film as well, knowing HW track record.

The 84th annual Academy Award nominations have been announced. While the likes of "Hugo" and "The Artist" expectedly led the nominees overall, there were also many surprises this morning. For better or worse:

1. There are nine best picture nominees and they include "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close." Haven't seen this film yet, but the trailer indicates this to be a melodramatic, smaltzy tear jerker. Where is Drive?

2. Gary Oldman, Oscar nominee. Am super glad he got the nod, but Michael did a fabulous job too.

3. Rooney Mara over Tilda Swinton. What kind of f^ckery is this???? Tilda was fantastic. They could have at least nominated Elizabeth Olsen or Kirsten Dunst if they wanted a young actress. Rooney sticks out like a sore thumb in this category.

4. "W.E." got more nominations than "Shame," "Melancholia" and "We Need To Talk About Kevin" combined. Sadly, Fassbender and Swinton's films did not receive nominations anywhere else either, and neither did Lars von Trier's acclaimed "Melancholia" (this prognosticator's three favorite films of the year). But what did? None other than Madonna's "W.E.," which took a nomination for best costume design.

I have to agree that the costume design was fabulous in W.E. The rest of the film was bah.

6. "A Separation" gets in for best original screenplay. A pleasant surprise was the presence of Asghar Farhadi's script for "A Separation" in the original screenplay category in addition to its foreign-language film nod. The Iranian import is definitely favored in the latter, though it's always hard to predict what happens in that controversial category.

7. No Albert Brooks!? Joining Swinton and Fassbender in the appalling acting snubs category was Albert Brooks, who failed to get a nomination for his work in "Drive."
He just tweeted that the Academy doesn't like him. They really really don't like him.

10. Melissa McCarthy. I don't really get the hype surrounding Bridemaids. It was a funny film, but it wasn't that great and neither was McCarthy. Am glad that Octavia and Berenice received a nod.

Source Indywire and me.

Has anyone seen Coriolanus? Weinstein picked it up, which made me think Vanessa Redgrave was initially a shoo-in, but they really buried it under Artist, Iron Lady and Week with Marilyn.

Judging from the trailers, the W.E. costumes did look fabulous, but still... can't believe it's in contention. Weinstein = Oscar whore (or magician). Artica, very judicious nomination comments, well agreed :D.

My guess: 12 Years a Slave pre-production prep!

I thought so at first, too. But actors usually aren't involved in pre-pro like that. I mean, unless Steve was like, "let's go make a fun time out of it." ATL is a party town...and lots of chocolate in that city:graucho:. Many a sweet shop to be wrecked.

Of course I'm talking about candy and nothing else:smile1:.

Seriously, though. I need to get a job as an extra on that set! Might have to move back to the ATL. :thinkin:

THIS CHICK AGAIN: FROM 'SHAME' TO FAME: CALAMIT Y. CHANG ON HER HOT MÈNAGE À TROIS SCENE

***Just posting the part in which she talks about 'Shame.' Interestingly enough, she brings up Nicole...hmmm.

So I'm watching the hottest sex scene ever in the movie Shame with Amanda, when we both exclaim aloud CALAMIT Y. !!!!!. Your famous feather tattoo confirmed it was you and DeeDee Luxe. I understand sex; it didnt actually occur, but everyone was hot. Tell us about the scene, the conversations leading up to it, and conversations after.

When I went to the audition, I knew the film was by Steve McQueen. His first film, Hunger, also starring Michael Fassbender, was a huge hit with film fans, so I guess you can say I already trusted him and his vision for my role as “Late Night Lover #1." When we met, he showed me the script and explained what the film was about. I had a lot of questions about Brandon’s (Fassbender) character development because I was curious about how Steve was going to handle the subject of sex addiction. On the day of the shoot, DeeDee and I wanted to know if our characters were prostitutes. Steve didn’t give a direct answer but he did say something to the effect that we were just normal people living in NYC, and like many people, we sometimes accept money for certain things. This reminded me of some people in fashion who work for free in exchange for expensive clothes and shoes. I know countless stylists who dress like a million bucks but can’t pay their rent and are consistently borrowing money from people left and right. Steve further explained that our characters were already familiar with Brandon and we were expecting him. When he first arrived and I opened the door for him, Steve wanted me to look a certain way when I saw Brandon. He wanted me to have a look as if saying, “Oh yeah, you again. Of course.” I even had Steve be me so I could see what he wanted my face to look like. He was very fun, patient, and gave clear direction. The actual filming of the infamous scene was a closed set. It was just five of us, including Steve and the cameraman. During the shoot, Steve pretty much let us three do our thing and every now and then he would ask one of us to switch sides for a better angle of our faces. As for conversations after this scene, well, we joked and laughed about whatever. We had some food. We talked about other films we liked, wanted to see, and I do remember asking Steve and Michael if they liked Lars Von Trier (cause I don’t). They didn’t. Michael did some impersonations of De Niro and I think Marlo Brando. It was pretty laid-back and comfortable, like friends hanging out.

I was told it was a retake, that the original scene was replaced with yours.

That was what our casting agent told us. They had already wrapped shooting months ago, but I guess some of the scenes (including ours) didn’t work out, so Steve came back to NYC with the cast and crew and re-shot them.
Nicole Beharie was on set with us that day too, but I don’t know what scene she was working on. I also don’t know who were in the first threesome scene. They didn’t really talk about it and we didn’t really care cause we were there to kill it!

Nice find! Yeah, I think it was filmed right on the heel of the X-Men NY premiere (you can see he's either wearing a wig in those scenes, or that they spray-painted his hair brown ... cuz the texture is all off), about a day or two later.

Haven't seen Coriolanus yet. It came out this past weekend, but it's not in every cinema. Hope to see it this week. Had no idea King Harvey bought the rights. That man earned his VIP pass to hell a long time ago.

Well, the Academy never fails to disappoint

But seriously WTF? :nono::tdown::nogood:
