I doubt that reason he was snubbed is because of the issue with ROC. His chances have always been 50/50. Charlize was snubbed too I just noticed.
True. Telling sign was Michael not getting SAG nomination. As for Charlize, she never stood a chance for Best Actress IMHO. The category was packed this year.
Ditto.
The oscar/nominations for best male performance almost always goes to older actors, just compare the average age of male nominees to female nominees. I think Fassbender is at the start of his career and everyone figures there will be opportunities down the road...
So what I'm saying is... Pitt and Clooney are the old cows and Fassbender is the new cow...**too bad there's no appropriate cow smiley to insert here but there appears to be a dog smiley**
... Soooooo what I'm saying is Fassbender is the new dog and Pitt and Clooney are his b*tches... :doggie:
Plus I wouldn't have said it a few months ago but there have actually been quite a few really good performances this year.
IA. I know that some of you don't like Clooney but he deserved his nom. I had a chance to see The Descendants last week and I liked it a lot. In fact, I might go and see it again. Honestly I get why people may not like this movie, thinking it's slow, boring or whatever, but honestly the way the subject of the movie was approached and whole film was executed, it couldn't have been better. Stories like this can easily become patetic and cheap but The Descendants didn't.
Michael not being nominated doesn't have to do with Clooney and Pitt being HW royalty or Fox not investing enough in Michael's campaign. I think it has more to do with Shame being incomplete movie. It was an interesting and different film for sure but compared to other films I've seen, it didn't leave such a strong impression. Loose and vague script didn't work well with Steve's long takes IMHO. That's why Michael's performance didn't stand out as much as others and that could have been the reason why Shame wasn't popular among Academy and SAG voters.
Really glad for Oldman, yes. It's criminal how underappreciated he was all these years (but I will argue that while he is great in Tinker Tailor, it's not his best personal role yet, and none of the nominated roster best Fassbender's). Snow8, your analogies are hilarious! And so spot-on.
Nah, not implying that ROC was ever a factor in the snub at all. But it has resurfaced in an untimely manner, and seeing how was it basically ignored/swept under the rug, leaves me perplexed. Usually movie aficionados don't care for this type of gossip but even some of them jumped on the topic on movie boards, and lots openly wished for his snub, from then on. He's not popular yet as a tabloid fixture: his fanbase is still basically cinephiles. Why risk alineating even them, what's the career longevity logic there?
But back to nicer Fass topics. Perhaps he'll get to be a presenter (and streak naked across the stage) and still get the opportunity to bring his mom down the red carpet![]()
Whoever is behind that story, knew well what they were doing. Timing was perfect. Right off GGs and Clooney's remark, with reports of Michael's party hopping and before announcement of Oscar noms. I would even venture out and say that the person behind the story knew well that Michael won't be nominated at all. Simply because juicy gossip story would have garnered more attention if Michale were Oscar nominee. Sure story would have been old but it would make a splash after all.
In a way, ignoring this story was a smart move but only because THR and Newsweek roundtable came almost right away. So this story got buried under lots of positive nad good press. The only ones who freaked out were people on boards, IMDB and a few bloggers. However, I do hope Michael decides to hire big player as his personal publicist because someone like that can make stories like this go away quickly.
