Hope you all don't mind if I interrupt, it's been a while since I posted, I've been away and it's taken a while to catch up.

:nono: I don't even know what to say. :shrugs:

Yes, I do. I'm super proud of him and all of his accomplishments and I'm looking forward to the amazing career he has ahead of him. :woohoo:

^^ Exactly

Clooney and Pitt were always a shoo-in and so I guess Oldman bumped him off the list.

The only bummer will be that he won't make an appearance at the oscars.

I doubt that reason he was snubbed is because of the issue with ROC. His chances have always been 50/50. Charlize was snubbed too I just noticed.

Ditto.

The oscar/nominations for best male performance almost always goes to older actors, just compare the average age of male nominees to female nominees. I think Fassbender is at the start of his career and everyone figures there will be opportunities down the road...

So what I'm saying is... Pitt and Clooney are the old cows and Fassbender is the new cow...**too bad there's no appropriate cow smiley to insert here but there appears to be a dog smiley**
... Soooooo what I'm saying is Fassbender is the new dog and Pitt and Clooney are his b*tches... :doggie:

Plus I wouldn't have said it a few months ago but there have actually been quite a few really good performances this year.

Really glad for Oldman, yes. It's criminal how underappreciated he was all these years (but I will argue that while he is great in Tinker Tailor, it's not his best personal role yet, and none of the nominated roster best Fassbender's). Snow8, your analogies are hilarious! And so spot-on.

Nah, not implying that ROC was ever a factor in the snub at all. But it has resurfaced in an untimely manner, and seeing how was it basically ignored/swept under the rug, leaves me perplexed. Usually movie aficionados don't care for this type of gossip but even some of them jumped on the topic on movie boards, and lots openly wished for his snub, from then on. He's not popular yet as a tabloid fixture: his fanbase is still basically cinephiles. Why risk alineating even them, what's the career longevity logic there?

But back to nicer Fass topics. Perhaps he'll get to be a presenter (and streak naked across the stage) and still get the opportunity to bring his mom down the red carpet ;)

Yeah, the voting took place before the recent rumor about he and ROC. People hadn't really been talking about it before that (not recently, anyway).

And Michael can always show up to the Oscars as a guest (though if I were him I would say eff you and not go :p)

Um...yeah. 'Coz like, picking up chickies at the pub > flying out of your country and into a city that you hate just to go to some boring-a** awards show for which you weren't even nominated. Skip it, Michael. And go get your freak on. :graucho: (not really coz i'm super jealous of any skank that gets to experience his "freak")

I wouldn't dwell on that too much. In my opinion many actors have taken the golden with sketchy pasts and people against them. Fassbender has more supporters then hatred (the haters are just more vocal)

I guess I was wondering then why one would willingly join that select club of artists with a (true) scandalous past, if that sketchy past is not even true (I'm still convinced it was all horse****, obvs). You know what I mean? He's a jolly guy, unpretentious, who works hard and plays hard: no one would have any reason otherwise to hate him at the moment, a rare feat in the showbiz unless you're named Clooney. Anyway, it's just a reflection on the matter, unrelated to Oscar talk.

"Shame, indeed. Despite being one of the biggest breakout stars of 2011, thanks to his mesmerizing performance as a sex addict in the harrowing drama Shame, Michael Fassbender was surprisingly not called among the nominees for this year’s Academy Awards. Long considered a shoo-in for a Best Actor nominee, Fassbender was edged out by first-time nominee Gary Oldman for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and dark horse nominee Demián Bichir for A Better Life. (EW’s Dave Karger hoped Oscar voters would take notice, and it seems like they most certainly did.)

But Fassbender wasn’t the only shocking snub in the Best Actor category. Ryan Gosling was a triple threat in 2011 with his acclaimed turns in Drive, The Ides of March, and Crazy Stupid Love. (Though the latter would have been in the Best Supporting Actor race.) Between breaking up street fights, being a good sport about your, uh, supporting actor, and of course, turning in great performances, fans of Gosling and Fassbender are no doubt wondering this morning, ‘Jeez, what’s a guy have to do to get an Oscar nomination?!’"

Under normal circumstances, I'd say good for him for ignoring the gossipy side of it all, but given what it all implies, doesn't that make any of you uneasy? It kind of makes it hard to unreservedly root for him. Either he's really badly advised, either... I dunno. Sure, the papers aren't talking about it, but the impression/doubt is out there with more awareness, and it is not going away anytime soon unless there's a reversal of course.

He's not being badly advised. He/his team SHOULD ignore it. It's the right strategy whether he's guilty/innocent. It's the "we're above this," "these reports are beneath our notice" approach. As soon as he acknowledges them or tries to do damage control, then you know he has a problem that might affect his career. Right now, the only people who care are hard-core gossip hounds. That's a really small population of the internet.

On a topic as possibly explosive? There may be no right strategy, but there are millions of wrong ones (a right strategy, whatever it is, is to nip a volatile issue in the bud and not let doubt foster on -- I'm not talking about last week's tip). If people in general have an issue with one thing, it is to perceive that someone is getting away with a wrong deed because they're not confronted about it. The moviemaking machine is a giant wuss and hates controversy if avoidable, so I was just voicing a concern that isn't too far-fetched (I think). The purpose wasn't to rain on the parade ;). Even though this is merely a gossip thread, I'm sure all of us wish him the best and smoothest career/opportunities, as he deserves every single one of them .

These are the ones from the Sunday Times interview, right?

If I'm not mistaken, he's in his own clothes. I actually like his outfit here. And he's wearing undies (thank the heavens!) Though, he looks a bit "vampire got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning and can't wait to get this photo session and interview with this stupid twit over with" ish. Long night, Michael?:graucho:

Yeah he looked really busted that day. Very pale and skinny. Thank God he took a vacation.

Have been enjoying following this forum, ladies. Random that there's so much good Fassbender gossip on a handbag website! Anyway, couldn't resist posting...my sister's friend has slept with Mr F. She met him in a bar in Broadway Market about a year ago. She kept looking at him because she thought she recognised him and then he came over to talk to her. They played ping pong together and then went back to his place. Apparently he was lovely and very gentlemanly. He didn't want to talk about his work and was very down to earth and un-actor-y but it was just a one night thing. And she fits the description of his type - "exotic" (half Indian, half something else) and curvy. Not sure how old she is but my sis is 32 so somewhere round there. I live round the corner from London Fields and pretty sure I know his building from the Vogue article description - hoping I'll bump into him myself one of these days!

Welcome EastLondonGirl! Thanks for sharing your story. We love some good gossip her in TPF. Btw, lucky you for living in that area. The park is fabulous. Can't wait for spring to come so we can start having picnics again. Oh and lucky sister! :p

:graucho::graucho: Have you seen Octavia on Kimmel? She mentions the whole Best Actor lineup in a bit where she jokes that she's single and she's hellbent on scoring on the night of the Globes or something (get it, sister!). Maybe it was an extra motivating factor to go to the LA premiere of Haywire? :graucho::graucho:

LOL Penny that is a hilarious photo/video! Am totally girl-crushing on these two actresses too :D

Thanks for posting will check it out. I like Octavia. I hope she won't be like Mo'nique and disappear again.

So you're Fassy neighbour basically :smile1: But doesn't he live on Mare Street? I know someone who lives near his place too and who saw him takin' the bus and hanging out around Broadway Market/London Fields' pubs a lot
He sleeps around with random women met in pubs (?) well then the guy must be pretty desperate/or lonely that's not a very healthy behavior at all  I'm glad for them but honestly if he's such a man wh*re then Michael...

That's how things work here in the UK. The pub is THE place to hook-up with someone random. Most people's social lives revolve around the pubs so if you don't drink you're screwed.

If Fassy lives in London Fields then he doesn't live on Mare Street. The park is a short walking distance from the High Street.

I read on twitter than he's in Atlanta, Georgia at the moment.

I don't know, but I think I'm starting to agree with the way his team is handling the whole thing. As an outsider I do sort of see it as him being above the level of even addressing such reports. But maybe that's because I'm on his side right now. I for one, have a lot of confidence in his agent, Michael Cooper, who is one of the most successful, well known (and infamous) and intimidating agents in the business. MF seems to love the guy and I'm sure he heeds his advice.

I also feel that (and this is just my opinion, which is worth nothing - i understand that - but my hunch, nonetheless) ROC might have some mental instabilities and M is trying to be protective of her by not commenting on the issue.
