I wonder if Steve got an invite to Globes. Granted only his leading man was nominated, but still I wonder. McQueen doesn't seem like one to schmooze at big A-list mainstream shindigs.

I doubt it. Not exactly his scene, but I could be wrong. He's been working his butt off for months to promote the film.

I read somewhere that Woody Allen has been missing in action for 15 years at the big award shows. Is that true?

You mean Ralph Fiennes?

Eric Northman and Voldemort can't get into parties, how is that possible?

Nope Voldemort was the code name for Kate Bosworth at the Alexander Skarsgard thread. She had lots of not-so-nice nicknames. :graucho:

Jesus, it feels like something in the Shame promotion campaign kicked into Overdrive suddenly: Fassbender to appear on NPR's On Air with Terry Gross tomorrow. Terry Gross is an amazing radio personality; it's always such a pleasure listening to her podcasts, so I'm glad he's making appearances on proper sober outlets like NPR and PBS.

I'm sure if someone were to snub Voldie Fiennes this year, he could wither them to dust with his Coriolanus-posterlike stare ;).

It's about time!!! Better late than never. I hope it will help him land the Oscar nod.

The Evening Standard has also released their shortlist today:

Shame, from Turner Prize-winning film-maker Steve McQueen, dominates the lists, with nods for best film and technical achievement as well as acting honours for Mulligan and Fassbender. But the best film category shows the strength of a year already acclaimed as a golden one for British film.

Michael Fassbender on Haywire and Hollywood

“I’m definitely better at getting hit than I am at hitting,” explains Michael Fassbender in between bites of mince pie. “I suppose that’s life, isn’t it? Somebody’s got to take the blows, somebody’s gotta give them.” In his latest film, Fassbender proves he can take and deliver a hit. Opening January 20, Haywire is the Steven Soderbergh-directred espionage action thriller with a powerhouse cast including Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Channing Tatum and mixed martial arts (M.M.A.) fighter-turned-actress Gina Carano. We caught up with Fassbender to chat about fight scenes, Formula One and how he handles fame.

In an interview with Vegas magazine, your costar Gina Carano said that you took some real hits in your fight scenes.
MICHAEL FASSBENDER: Oh, yes. That was during training. I hit my knee off Gina’s elbow and I was like ‘Are you alright?’ and of course she’s just fine and I’m like ‘Okay,’ as I limp away. I hit that little soft area just above the kneecap. Later, I was doing a lot of short sprints during training with Channing [Tatum] and my knee got quite swollen. But when we were actually filming the fighting over two days in Dublin it was grand.

What about this film made you want to sign on?
MF: It was Steven, first and foremost. Then when I read the script, I saw an interesting character with enough blanks I could fill in myself. He was open to any sort of characterization. I knew that I was dealing with a self-centered person with self-serving objectives. How much of a spy is he? Was he a character within a character, pretending to be British but actually Irish? It’s fun to find those little nuances.

Gina had a successful M.M.A career before she became an actress. What would you be doing if you weren’t acting?
MF: I would like to have been a Formula One driver in the ’70s and ’80s. I don’t race cars, but I do go-karting, which is kind of a lesser thing. But I guess they can get pretty fast.

You were in four major films last year—and everyone’s talking about your performance in Shame. How are you handling the limelight?
MF: I like telling stories and that’s why I started doing this. I like studying human behavior [and] trying to understand and investigate that. The way people respond to that is kind of its own thing and out of your control. Everyone likes a pat on the back, that’s for sure. And it’s nice when you do something that’s important to you and people embrace it.

 Mama mia, that's hot. Thanks, Ejm. Can't stop staring at those pecs :woohoo: And I think it's the first time I've tried to remove bedsheets from a computer screen. Must check in mental hospital soon. How can anyone concentrate on properly reading the accompanying text interview? Anyway, if you liked Shame and the themes it evoked, W Mag also has a dossier on related things you might want to check out (apologies if it's already been posted:http://www.wmagazine.com/celebritie...bender-carrie-mulligan-inspiration-ss#slide=1.

Also, MTV's Josh Horowitz quizzes the man at the Globes for a lightning round of Members Only, and slips in a picture of naked Fassbender:

(His answer is hilarious: "Hmm that's technically more (bush)... oh, that's me!")

Woody Allen's a bit of a hermit as far as these soirées go. I don't think he's ever shown up to collect anything, whether he was nominated or even won. Same situation with Terrence Malick. I don't even know what Malick's voice sounds like, because the man has never been interviewed either.

Aaaah! You girls rock for that W Mag pic and the Members Only link! Thank you!!:urock:

Anyone else think it doesn't really look like him in the photo, though. I feel like W has a tendency to photoshop folks within an inch of their lives. Maybe it's because the pic is a kind of small and I can't see it up close?
