Not a whole lot actually appreciates anymore unless it's mint and somewhat to very rare. I suppose if you consider inflation against the original retail, there can be appreciation on older bags that aren't strictly mint (I believe the first originally retailed in the 900-995 range? Can someone fact check me on this?), so an 01-05 first could sell for $1200-1700 depending on condition and rarity of the color/leather. Most ME city bags in new / like new condition are selling between $1500-$1700, but not enough have come to market yet to make it a very big pool to average. Although they have said ME is a LE bag, they've had too much success with it and run the style too many seasons now to truly call it LE, IMO... The more likely scenario --again jmo--I believe is that like all years, they will do different color runs and over time the more desirable colors or color/metal combinations that have been retired from production will retain their value the best, along with black, which is ubiquitous but always in demand. HTH!

Agree with this 100% .. alas, the resale on Balenciaga is NOT what it used to be! Why? .. very simple = Balenciaga used to produce a limited amount of bags in the "old days" ('01 thru '05). They started ramping up around '06, but then put the production on full-steam-ahead around '09/'10. As a result, the "uniqueness" of the brand, colors and the leather weren't there anymore. Just ask any of us 'old-timers' (and I'm not talking age here), and we'll all tell you that the hunt for those old bags was SERIOUS business as:
1. There were a lot less Bal Boutiques then
2. The brand was sold to a lot less retail outlets
3. There was a lot less bags produced

The only bags where one can still [potentially] make a profit, are those that are truly rare (color, hardware - like the pewter HW or the Giant 21 HW now) leather (Chevre, Caribou, Cameau or Croc).

With the over-production, there have been some MEGA-BUYS on eBay or other sites, and therefore, when one is presented with a large-$$$ amount on a bag, it makes you think twice. Sadly, just the way it is now ..

As far as the Hamilton bags versus the Metal Trim .. I have both, and I can attest to the fact that the leather softens up over time. The reason the Hamilton leather "seems" softer, is because there was less of a 'glaze' on it. The Metal Trim Chevre has that glaze. so when you first get it, it is stiff - no doubt. But, I assure you that with continued use, they soften up and they are WONDERFUL as well!

I love both styles and this leather is a LOT more hardy than the current Agneau (IMO)!

I am in total agreement with CeeJay here. I have both the Hamilton and ME chevre. Both started out stiff, but they really do soften up with use and they soften beautifully.

When I first got my ME, she stood up fierce and straight, military style no less! But now she is rather smooshy.

My Hamilton chevre First was also really stiff. The chevre leather was stiff to a point that it felt hard. Plus it is in the First style with a lot less leather and so I was expecting it to remain upright for a long time. But to my utter amazement, after just two trips out, she has shown obvious signs of softening. She not only feels better, she looks just as lovely too.

As for the glazing on the ME leather, I definitely do not mind it. I actually quite like it. To me...the shine from the glazing adds that touch of extra glamor to an already very elegant bag. Better yet, my ME is my go-to bag on rainy days precisely because of the glazing. Water droplets sit on top of that leather with nowhere to go. The glazing is THAT protective. I love it and appreciate it.

So yes, I am a huge fan of both the Hamilton and ME chevre. Both are beautiful and amazing in their own way.

Wow Ceejay! Your words gave me hope ! :graucho:

I confess... I was one of those who gagged at the ME when it first came out. I thought it was garish and over-the-top. But before long.... And I really mean not long at all... I fell for it HARD. It was so weird to hate and then love something in such a short amount of time. Today, I regard the ME as the prettiest of all my bbags and I will never let mine go.

I guess many like the ME "hamilton like" chevre leather and not the metallic edge trimming. The Holiday Hamilton range in the past years are highly sought after! I have read that some TPF member even asked if it's possible to pluck out or remove the metal pieces ! lol .......
I do wish it can be easily done too!

Or perhaps, Balenciaga should make the metal pieces as a clip on accessories. So it can be added on or removed to change the look! :graucho:

You speak truth, as always babe! I was repelled by the ME initially... I couldn't wrap my head around the different-ness of the look. Now I like both. I'm still adjusting to the more structured feel of the ME chèvre, and the fact that it doesn't "puddle", but that's just getting used to something new. I suppose we can't expect the pebbled chèvre to act like original chèvre or the agneau... we don't expect a tiger to act like a house cat, they are different even though they're from the same family!

My wish is that they would bring back the more matte hamilton leather-- with or without the ME. The black holiday city or first is on the top of my lust list, and I have never seen one come to market. I've seen the red (own it) and quite a few of the glycine and bronze, a burgundy once in a while and one pink. But that first run of hamilton chèvre was very special.

Thanks a lot for these replies :) I'm learning so much :smile1:

I do wish that they'd try releasing the older matte Hamilton leather with the metallic edge, imagine how nice those would be, though the current glossy chevre is beautiful as well. :)

Hi i am very new with Balen bags, so is it still possible to get ME bleu paeon 2014 color right now? Next week my friend will go to Spain, and I am thinking to get the bag through him :) May I know what color is the ME for bleu paeon color? Is it the pale gold/champagne or the silver one?
PS: I am planning to get the bleu roi with pale gold ME if the bleu paeon not available anymore..

BIG THANKS!!!

BIG THANKS!!!

I was able to purchase my Bleu Paon ME when a friend went to the Balenciaga boutique in Borgognona, Rome just this May for 1545 euros. So it's quite possible that the older collections may still be available in store (in Europe). The hardware of the Bleu Paon is pale gold :) But I did see official photos where the bag had silver hardware. (oh and if your friend is a foreigner travelling, Spain may have tax refunds :D)

What's strange is that I had originally asked her to get the Bleu Roi from 2015, but she found the Bleu Paon and bought that instead :smile1: Maybe try searching for the bigger boutiques in Spain?

If the neither the Paon or Roi are available, based on what I've seen in pictures, the ME Blue Nuit from the current release looks similar to Bleu Paon

Hope this helps!:smile1:

The HIP has gone metallic! $935 Matchesfashion.

I have never been a huge fan of the hip bag, but boy, do I like it in the metallic edge :woot::cool: I think I hear one calling my name :D

I have been planning on getting the mini city in metallic edge black. Do you think two metallic edge bags is too much. If I get the metallic edge in the hip should I go with regular in the min city?

It's awesome, isn't it!! I do not think 2 ME bags is too much, if you love them! Think of the # of people here who have from 2-200 regular Bals in every configuration. Many fall in love with a color and collect in many styles or styles in many colors. I probably would not do an ME hip and mini in the same color though, that would be expensively redundant. Bottom line: get what you love, because what you love, you will use. Honestly when I'm making a decision on a bag I sometimes stay off TPF for a little while because there are so many beautiful things on here I can start to be influenced by a tide of lust and passion that is not necessarily in keeping with what I would be drawn to without so much distracting beauty.... Does that make sense? There's just so much eye candy here that I find myself wanting everything, even though I know I don't need and wouldn't use everything. HTH!!

I definitely wouldn't buy them in the same color. And I am not into repeating bags either. I currently don't have a mini city or a hip. Otherwise, I wouldn't be buying one unless I was selling what I had. I will definitely get the hip in ME. I had originally decided against a hip because I thought the bag was just...meh. Kind of a blah bag, but it looks AWESOME with the ME. Does anyone know what colors are offered in the ME hip bags? I was planning on getting the mini city in black. Is the hip bag in ME only offered in the colors in the link in the post a few back. The link showed it in black and a burgundy. I don't like the burgundy color so if they only offer it in black and burgundy, should I get it in black and the mini city ME in a different color (maybe the dark blue)? I'd really like the ME hip in dark blue if they offered that.

There are other colors, I know there is light blue, can't remember about dark blue. Look at matchesfashion.com

Hi Tata really nice to know u :)
Just so you know, your reply really make my heart do skip a beat! Esp the "get the Bleu Paon ME just this May" part *dancingdancing XD
Really hope that my friend still could get the bleu Paon ME this July in Spain.. And YES he is foreign traveller so I could get about 10% tax refund :):)

Yeah, what I saw on several pic on the web they have pale to slightly silver edge depends on the lightning, so I'm a little bit confused about that earlier.

I already saw the ME Blue Nuit, looks great too! But Bleu Paon ME still win my heart hard :) Blue Nuit looks more navy (Mostly I bought by bags in navy so..) and I just love how lightning greatly affect the color of Bleu Paon, it's really on of a kind!

So wish me luck, ladies! Will be posting my first Bals pic soon *finger crossed

Hi Guys! Addy has done us the favor of starting a style reference thread for ME bags... Please go over there and post your ME pics and info! (Especially back of tag photos so we can see color numbers and year references!)

I've been trying to piece together some color history of ME bags lately and this thread has been super helpful, but a non chatter thread would be fabulous for quick reference (and general admiration!)

Thank you!!
