Metal edge chèvre

The leather is relevant here: there is Hamilton chèvre and the slightly different chèvre on the ME bags. Hamilton bags were a few years before the ME bags, and some people describe differences--not In durability but look and finish (more matte vs. slight sheen). The chèvre is thick and hard wearing, either type.

Thanks Jellyv, obviously I'm too ignorant when it comes to Bal bag. I only own 1 City & 1 Velo but I do not even know what leather they are! I only know my 2014 city is much lighter than Velo I bought couple of years ago.

I don't know what's Hamilton either, so I need to read up more to know the difference between Hamilton ME and regular ME's leather. Always thought all Chevre bag are the same. Now that I'm interested with Part time in ME...I definitely need to do my research. (Hoping I'm able to wear PT crossbody because I'm not very tall. Only 165cm) hehe [emoji16]

All ME range are using Hamilton Chevre Leather. Chevre = goat skin

Before 2008, Balenciaga produced bags using Chevre Leather. There after, Agneau = lamb skin, were used till now.

Balenciaga did introduced special or limited edition bags using different other leathers too and those are seasonal, not regular.

If im not wrong, Balenciaga has 3 ranges now :-

1) Classic & G12 hardware in Agneau
2) Metallic Edge in Hamilton Chevre
3) Papier in Calf

I hope my info serves you well ;)

I'm pretty sure that the word Hamilton was used only for the bags issued in chèvre from a few years ago. The Bal website and retailers are not calling ME bags Hamilton. Some people report a small difference in character between the Hamilton leather and today's ME bags' leather. Yes, chèvre does refer to goat skin leather for both ranges of bags.

Because my mom and I are quite late to the Balenciaga parade and only have MEs (for now heehee) (she has a Black City with GHW, I have a Paon City with Pale GHW) and since MEs have only been around since 2014, I'm pretty curious: How's the general quality and resell value of ME bags compared to older Balenciaga classics? When taken good care of, do they depreciate in value, or appreciate (since they're marketed as "limited edition")

Thanks so much!

Not a whole lot actually appreciates anymore unless it's mint and somewhat to very rare. I suppose if you consider inflation against the original retail, there can be appreciation on older bags that aren't strictly mint (I believe the first originally retailed in the 900-995 range? Can someone fact check me on this?), so an 01-05 first could sell for $1200-1700 depending on condition and rarity of the color/leather. Most ME city bags in new / like new condition are selling between $1500-$1700, but not enough have come to market yet to make it a very big pool to average. Although they have said ME is a LE bag, they've had too much success with it and run the style too many seasons now to truly call it LE, IMO... The more likely scenario --again jmo--I believe is that like all years, they will do different color runs and over time the more desirable colors or color/metal combinations that have been retired from production will retain their value the best, along with black, which is ubiquitous but always in demand. HTH!

As always, thank you so much for the info, learned a lot :) Good point, most of appreciating value comes from inflation anyway, and it seems like the ME line is gearing up to be a semi-permanent line, so it'll age like the rest of the classic Bals.

Also I did read up that the initial reaction of many people towards the ME line was pretty negative, glad to see people are slowly liking the range more and more as new colors come out every season :)

I confess... I was one of those who gagged at the ME when it first came out. I thought it was garish and over-the-top. But before long.... And I really mean not long at all... I fell for it HARD. It was so weird to hate and then love something in such a short amount of time. Today, I regard the ME as the prettiest of all my bbags and I will never let mine go.

I guess many like the ME "hamilton like" chevre leather and not the metallic edge trimming. The Holiday Hamilton range in the past years are highly sought after! I have read that some TPF member even asked if it's possible to pluck out or remove the metal pieces ! lol .......
I do wish it can be easily done too!

Or perhaps, Balenciaga should make the metal pieces as a clip on accessories. So it can be added on or removed to change the look! :graucho:

You speak truth, as always babe! I was repelled by the ME initially... I couldn't wrap my head around the different-ness of the look. Now I like both. I'm still adjusting to the more structured feel of the ME chèvre, and the fact that it doesn't "puddle", but that's just getting used to something new. I suppose we can't expect the pebbled chèvre to act like original chèvre or the agneau... we don't expect a tiger to act like a house cat, they are different even though they're from the same family!

My wish is that they would bring back the more matte hamilton leather-- with or without the ME. The black holiday city or first is on the top of my lust list, and I have never seen one come to market. I've seen the red (own it) and quite a few of the glycine and bronze, a burgundy once in a while and one pink. But that first run of hamilton chèvre was very special.

Ah, your ME is quite new. With more use, yours will puddle too. Mine is already puddling, albeit not in the same way as the regular chevre, but it definitely does soften beautifully. Here's a shot of some of that softening ME chevre!

This makes me so happy! I've only carried 3 days consecutively, maybe I need to commit to a month and see how she goes!

The HIP has gone metallic! $935 Matchesfashion.

Im totally with you s.tighe !!!

To be frank, the gloss or shine of the leather repels me more than the metal pieces! I do think i may be able to accept the ME or lust for one if the leather is matte.

And ..... your lust list is mine too :graucho:
