I'm sure it's for a role. No one with a forehead like that (I've got one too) would do something like that for beauty reasons!
She did shave it for a movie role--it's based on a Hemmingway novel called Garden of Eden--she's one of the leads. They were filming in Spain.
Anyway I think she looks prettier with hair, but she manages a shaved head surprisingly well. Besides, it seems like a pretty liberating thing to do. And plus she probably got a salary increase for it--like when Natalie or Demi did it, that sort of thing brings free press to a movie and an actress.
She tries all sorts of styles and she isn't afraid to be her own person. She got famous quite young and she's still making movies, (albeit independent), and hasn't hasn't ever fallen into the whole club/drugs/party scene of young Hollywood. Anyway, I think she's cool--she has her own style and she's one of the few hollywood actresses I respect.
