I think bags are AWESOME. what is better than carting around all your personal possessions? And why should guys be stuck carrying a boring backback or briefcase? I think the boys should be allowed to have a bag fetish too!

I used to hate jewelry on men (probably because i mostly thought of sopranos style necklaces/bracelets on hairy arms and chests) but ever since johnny depp and orlando bloom -- i LOVE a guy in charm necklaces!! very PIRATEY

Indiana Jones. Pirates. Guess I wish the world wore costumes instead of clothes ;)

My husband carries a briefcase, which is as man purse as he will ever get.

One of my adult sons carries a man purse, though. He's 26, an artist with a corporate job in Atlanta, and has not a shred of self-consciousness about carrying a bag. He's been that way since art school. Nice leather, quite stylish. I tried to find a picture of him with it, but don't have any. It looks good, though, and he's easily the most cosmopolitan and hip of my kids.

My BF doesn't carry a purse, naturally, but he does put a lot of his belongings in this tattered-ass old canvas backpack that he has. It's fraying, it's out of shape, one of the straps is about to come off. LOL. You know, he keeps stuff in it like his wallet, checkbook, Visine, Excedrin, etc. It makes perfect sense to me, although when we go someplace he mainly keeps it in the car and doesn't take it out and about with him. I always wondered other how guys who DON'T carry things like that survive when they go someplace. Don't they have stuff they need to take with them?

RANT: WHY oh WHY does it have to be called a MAN BAG MAN PURSE MURSE Or other non-descriptive names on what kind of bag it is? DO we call it "girl pants", "WOMEN CIGARETTES" and others? :shrugs:I may have a bad mind sometimes, but I always get terrible images in my head whenever I see someone writing man bags. :push: A man purse doesn's sound any better. So I call out to all of you please refrain from this pollution of visual environment and call it what it is: a duffle bag, a shoulder bag, a messenger bag, a gym bag, a wristlet, a clutch etc etc etc. Your men's bags are no less or more bags, simply, all by itself, than your's.

i can totally see where you are coming from! :flowers:

it's just that when i hear man 'purse' i think of a smaller bag than say a knapsack or messenger. in the end though (clutches, pouches, backpacks, totes, etc) are all just bags.

Slight OT: In Atlanta, you see such a variety of individual styles and tastes. It always amazes me to walk down Peachtree St and see how diverse the city is. Just about everything is accepted, I think, which is one of the things I love about Atlanta.

Back OT: My hubby has never had to carry a briefcase for work, and I'm pretty sure he'll never carry a bag. If we're out and he needs to carry something that won't fit in his pockets, he'll just give it to me to put in my bag. Same goes for me--if I'm not carrying a bag (gasp!) he'll carry my DL & keys. I think he could totally pull off a messenger bag style, but I doubt he'd ever consider it. He also doesn't wear any jewelry aside from his wedding ring, so I guess he's just old-school like that. I think I'll ask him about Indy's "purse" tonight, though! We'll see what he says. ;)

but back to the topic, my BF carries a messanger and i carry a large tote, so large you can fit a small child in it. :P

but seriously, guys in really metro cities have no problem carrying bags, and especially over in europe.

i think guys should just suck it up and get a bag. i remember how much it sucked when i didnt carry one, and everything that DIDNT fit in my pockets i would have to ask my sister to put in her purse. which became really annoying always asking her to open her purse and stuff and get something out for me or put it back in.

No. there is no way my DH would ever carry a man bag. it doesn't matter if it's designer or not..he will not carry a bag, period. so he carries his wallet, cell phone, keys in its pockets of cargo pants. i tried to convince him to get a man bag, but he keeps insisting that "bags are only for women" etc. whatever..at least he lets me wear the bags in the family! :)

My husband carries a small canvas duffle bag to work with his lunch, keys, and any other misc stuff he might need for the day. Anywhere else, and he just shoves his wallet and stuff in my purse.

If I were to even jokingly call in a 'man bag' or suggest a nice leather one he would probably wig out!

my SO carries a canvas GAP messenger bag... he carries a lot of computer pieces back and forth to work and since he often has to work from home he brings some things home from the office each night.

He always used to protest the idea of a man-bag but he was constantly forgetting something or dropping something off the pile he carried. I got him this bag and we've had no problems since. Days he doesn't need more than his wallet he leaves the bag home.
