Hi Jyyanks, I am also looking at the shorter version a lot lately. I have never tried on a max mara coat because I had never really taken to the longer version. The shorter one actually looks perfect. Can I ask how the sizing was? the longer version seems to run larger. For example I'm usually between a 4-6 in coats (US size)...at hermes RTW usually (38). Thanks!I almost bought a teddy coat today. I'm petite and the long, big teddy coats just swallow me whole. However, I tried on the short version in a bright cobalt blue and I have to admit, I looked pretty good in it. The coat was on sale BUT I hesitated because of the color, not because of the coat. The coat itself was warm and looked like a cozy, yet fashionable, warm winter coat. However, I could not get over the bright blue color. I LOVE blue and the shade complimented my skin tone but I tend to wear neutrals and muted colors and accessorize with bright colors/scarves or bling. I was not comfortable putting that amount of money down on the coat because I was afraid that a few years down the line, I would look at the coat and say "what was I thinking" or worse, have it sit in my closet and never wear it.
In short, I think the teddy coat is a great coat but something that I would consider more fashionable/trendy/fun than classic, esp in the bright color. If I had more disposable income, I wouldn't think twice about buying it. However, I work really hard for my money and save incessantly to buy luxury goods so when I think about spending $2-$3K on an item, I'd rather put it towards something that I know could last a long time. If the coat was in a more "neutral"color, I may have pulled the trigger for the warmth alone but the bright color was tough to justify.

@Haute_Luxe, I tried on the brunello furry animal one several times, but it was actually sweater coat that looked like camel furry feathers perhaps from the opera collection? I did end up getting a slimmer 65%alpaca and 35% wool from brunello that was more flattering and cut closer to the body than thr Max Mara teddy coats. I have a brunello shearling too, but in car length. As much as I try Max Mara, the brunello cut is more flattering. Thank you for your recommendations!Cucinelli has a few versions, shearling, castorino/beaver (very hard to find), and alpaca & wool. Do you recall which version you tried? I have an alpaca & wool, but it's not oversized (however most alpaca & wool coats from BC are oversized) and not really in the style of a cocoon coat, so my pics won't be too relevant unfortunately in this case![]()
