Max Mara Teddy COAT - IS IT STILL A THING?

Hey ladies, I tried the Teddy Girl on in XS and love how it feels on! I like the oversize fit so I can put in over hoodies and any oversized top (no longer like anything fitting after working from home for so long! Lol). My fear is that it makes me look huge (I’m 5’4” US size 8) and that it’s can’t last long in my wardrobe in a couple years as it won’t be age appropriate for me to be wearing something so “trendy” (I’m in my mid 40s). Thoughts? Thanks!

I don't think MM's teddy is a trend anymore after almost 10 years. It may have been in the beginning, but I'd say by now it's a classic considering they come out with it every year. It's also one of the most coveted, not to mention well known coats that spawned a thousand copies. Practically speaking, it's my warmest coat, and cozy to boot, so I don't care as much about the look when it's real feel 10 degrees outside. I have plenty of other dressier or more figure flattering coats, but for the comfort, warmth and forever classic factor, I don't need to look further than the teddy. For a bit more polish, wear combat platform boots if you want to minimize how big it is on you. Another option is to go with the shorter version if you're petite.

I agree, I feel like it’s such a statement coat and I really really want one!! I live in the Bay Area and it doesn’t get too cold here, usually 50-60 degree temps for most of the year. Do you find that you can wear it in more mild temps? Or is it mostly only useful for really cold weather?

Forgot to add that adding a higher heel with a fitted bottom, like cigarette pants or something tailored, like suit pants, can offset a more bulky top. Essentially, to get more height and slimmer silhouette.

I think it looks great on you. It’s supposed to be oversized but I like the way it falls on you. It doesn’t overwhelm and the dark color makes it appear less oversized. As far as age, many people
rock this coat at all ages. I think it has reached icon status and can be very sophisticated. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how old you are, what matters is how you feel when you wear it.

It’s a loose coat so if you look up styling on IG you can see it worn off shoulder- it’s lightweight, too.

Love that. Do they still make the shorter version? If so what is it called?
I dont think they did for this season. They came out with some other nice short styles, like the viale, reminds me of a car coat, a moto silhouette and a bomber style iirc. All great options if youre more petite or not looking for something too warm.

Thank you, I'll be on the lookout for past season coats.

Guys don’t your Teddies keep getting unbuttoned? I’m 5’4”, usually XS/S and I ordered the camel hair version in XS and S to compare. XS fits good, S is huge (but okay for and oversized relaxed look). But both keep opening up when I move around in them! S tends to get unbuttoned easier than XS. I even compared the buttonholes on both - they are the same size! I find it really bizarre…
