I'm curious, to our friends here who are not fans of the City, what about them doesn't work for you? @muchstuff?Thanks so much!

Short shoulder strap. It creates that crease in the centre of the bag and often leads to damage in the centre of the top edge.I'm curious, to our friends here who are not fans of the City, what about them doesn't work for you? @muchstuff?
I remember when I first started collecting, I preferred Days and Works because I could fit my laptop in them. I loved the-more-leather-the-better Work, but didn't love the hand or arm carrying. Over the years, laptops became more and more compact and could fit in the City. The City has taken over the Work for me because of this detail and the preferred shoulder strap.
Aaah. I probably don't notice the crease because my Cities are always stuffed to the brim. And I generally don't notice these things.Short shoulder strap. It creates that crease in the centre of the bag and often leads to damage in the centre of the top edge.
I'm not a huge fan of a full bag, I like lots of room to root around for my stuff.Aaah. I probably don't notice the crease because my Cities are always stuffed to the brim. And I generally don't notice these things.![]()
I agree. It's the laptop alone that dimensionally fills my Cities. It's like always having a bag liner/shaper in there.I'm not a huge fan of a full bag, I like lots of room to root around for my stuff.

When you make an exception, do you actually carry it? Or do you buy for collection/pawing/viewing/sentimental purposes (something I'm guilty of with a few of my bags).![]()
That fortune cookie shape the City gets forced into when worn with the strap bothers me the most. The placement of the o rings in relation to the bag's size is a built-in feature for damage, like muchy said.
I will make exceptions for some colors/years, though, haha.
Crossbody works and keeps the bag from collapsing. Not sure, if a base shaper would help some?
The City looks best hand carried, but I personally hate that...![]()

So far I sold every single City I had...When you make an exception, do you actually carry it? Or do you buy for collection/pawing/viewing/sentimental purposes (something I'm guilty of with a few of my bags).
Same, same, same.So far I sold every single City I had...
Once or twice every year I get an itch to try the City again. It's dumb, really, but I can't seem to quit them for good...
Doesn't help that the most desirable colors come in this style, lol.
Same, but have been buying city’s up lately. Bigger variety of colors, leathers, hardware, etc. Bal doesn’t seem to experiment that much with the other styles. So far I sold every single City I had...

+1 on the fortune cookie dip plus I don't like the wide corners on the bottom of standard sized Cities. The base is drastically wider than the opening, especially noticeable when carrying so I feel like I'm always banging them into something, which becomes evenly worn. I think that's why I prefer Firsts, Towns & Day silhouettes with more rounded corners, and also why the Bazars & Small City sizes don't bother me so much. The depth ratios are better matched.Short shoulder strap. It creates that crease in the centre of the bag and often leads to damage in the centre of the top edge.
Work is better for the amount I carry to work, city can pass as everyday errand bag ….short strap bothers me but the bag looks bad with longer, somehow I don’t like when the strap goes from end to end of the bag, don’t know how to say, but it needs to slouch to look good, then it gets ruined in the middle. The strap is aesthetically perfect in length but not for utility. It looks by far best when it is hand-held m just like my second beloved bag YSL Muse II, but I hate that carrying anything in hand. I need empty hands and also don’t want to overuse the handles, they are so easy to darken. Very confusing overall, but Work at least works for me with its size. Weekender prettiest really, I would actually gladly settle for part time. Those few firsts I have I might easily sell, but on the other hand the moment I sell the bag, comes the part of the year when I just want that bag. Like the music on my playlist for walking the dog. I can never remove songs from it because my taste changes from day to day LOL.I'm curious, to our friends here who are not fans of the City, what about them doesn't work for you? @muchstuff?
