Many inexpensive bags or one luxury bag?

I used to buy so many inexpensive bags, that when I made the change to designer bags, I realised how crazy I went with inexpensive bags. Now I just prefer a few expensive bags, and try to make them more versatile as possible. Plus it makes me want to look after the bags more, instead of just chucking my bags around.

I started my luxury collection back in school. Over the years of work in a fashion magazine, I made my fair share of purchases. Now I have 4 Chanel, 3 Gucci, 4 Prada, 4 LV, 2 Bottega, 2 Fendi, 1 Bally, 1 Hogan, and I can't remember the rest. I love luxury bags particularly leather ones cos they last longer and they are hardier for my daily use. Also, pretty essential in my field.
Meanwhile, I also have a collection of completely brand-less bags that are made by individual artists or in small production. Some of them cost as little as $8, some cost hundreds, but I love each one of them as much as I love my luxury bags. They are unique and often get praised more than the luxury bags cos ppl in the fashion industry are always looking for newer, better and unique ideas. The best example would be the reversible sequin bag/shoes by MJ, which I actually have seen and bought a purse with similar design/idea in a store that imports HK fashion items 1 year before MJ even launched his design.
I hope my experience help you see through the word "luxury", and go for something that fits your budget, style, and lifestyle.

This depends on what you consider luxury. I have DB, LRL, Coach and MK. They are all great bags, good quality, but they did cost a few hundred bucks a piece. So I consider them designer or luxury simply because they are upper standard bags with quality materials.

So to answer the thread, always quality over quantity, and if that means 5 designer bags, then rotate those 5.

I do agree that one designer bag is better than many cheap stuff, but the problem here is that having one designer bag is not enough, so practically following this logic, one will end up with having lots of luxury bags.

So I love handbags! I have a small collection of COACH, MK, Juicy and I've wanted a an LV for awhile now, but i'm starting to wonder if i'll be happy with one bag? I think that if i get one I will feel the need to use it all the time to 'get my money' out of it or I would feel guilty not using it all the time.

Have any of you gone from using a bunch of bags and gone to using just one?

What are your opinions on making to move to luxury?

The person who can answer your questions is yourself. What you really want? By getting the LV are you going to be satisfy you're cravings?

Base on my own experience, I much enjoy getting "premium" or high end designer handbag. The quality and style IMO are far more better than contemporary brands. And most importantly high end bags are have more reselling value. So to answer your question I much prefer getting a one luxury handbag...

Did you sell any of yours? I know there are places that we can sell designer bags, but I think it is not an easy decision.

No, I haven't try selling my handbags yet. I am very attached with all my handbags. I work hard just to get each one of my handbags so letting go or selling em will be hard for me.

Sell all but one of your cheap bags if possible, and buy one expensive purse. I would try to avoid one that is covered in monogram because that gets old. I love ferragamo leather purses because of the beautiful leather, glimmering hardware, and understated luxe. It "looks" expensive without trying so hard. Those are the kind of bags you can wear forever and pass on to your daughter. Keep the cheap bag for travel to certain locales. You don't want to carry a big expensive bag if you're in places like India, Africa, Mexico, etc. I do the same thing with my wedding ring depending in where we go.

What a cool experience. Thanks for sharing that.

I am thinking hard about my bag collection now. I have a mostly midrange collection of coach/mk/kate spade and a few randoms. I have been consigning bags i am no longer excited about. I have spent 10 years looking and buying the wrong perfect black everyday work to weekend bag.

I had one that felt great initially but got too popular. Now it is a rainy day bag.

I keep asking, should i spend more on a nicer bag? Will i be happy? I realize i am trying to recreate the feeling i had with my first coach bag: a lady like carryall that fit almost everything (until it died, i got a refund but it never returned). It was the first time i used the same bag daily for months.

I think i have determined it is time to find a new "holy grail" and i'll settle in and stop buying. The new black pretender every year isn't working.
