Madison Hobo or Phoebe?

Thanks for the suggestions about the Daily Bag. I don't think it's big enough for what I want (could just be the images I saw online), but it's really beautiful. I am going to the Coach store tomorrow and will decide once and for all a) Madison hobo or Phoebe and b) silt, tan, or grey birch. I'm sure I'll be happy with either bag--just want to make an informed decision!

There's also the new Sullivan Hobo to consider if you want the size of the Madison Hobo.

Thanks! I saw that but I'm not a huge fan of the large pebbled leather (it seems from the pictures that it's a lot more pebbled than the Madison hobo). It's a beautiful bag, just not as much my style as the Phoebe or the Madison hobo.

So glad I found this thread (or, more acccurately, glad that Canderson22 linked me here from another thread)! I'm debating between the Phoebe and the hobo (Madison hobo, not Sullivan hobo). I've never had a bag with compartments and hesitate to have one because I'm very lazy and want to just be able to toss things in and get them out--I'd love to think I'd organize it all, but it wouldn't store that way and I think it'd annoy me to have to open different compartments to get stuff.

As to colors--I love silver hardware in general but I agree that the grey birch may not be as versatile as the tan (plus, I believe the hobo only comes in black, tan, the really dark brown, and silt I think? Any thoughts on silt? I can't decide if it's too brown or if it'd be able to go with black.

The tan hobo (and only the tan hobo) is on sale right now...I might the bullet and get it, unless I want to hold out for the silt. Does anyone own silt? Thanks!

PS - Does anyone think the hobo strap is too short? On Nordstrom it says there's a 3'' drop but that must be a mistake, right? Or maybe they're not accounting for the slouch? I want to be able to toss the bag over my shoulder, so it'd annoy me if it was a super short drop.

the hobo also comes in cornflower blue. I think the black, cornflower blue and silt are on sale at select flag stores.

the verdict is still out for me in the Sullivan. it looks about the same size as Madison but the pebbled leather makes it seem bulkier or heavier. not sure what it is. I saw it in store but wasn't interested in picking it up. might be different without a pillow pack tho.

I haven't seen the Sullivan hobo in person yet (hopefully tomorrow) but it doesn't speak to me the way the Madison hobo does. I just love the Madison! I also love the Phoebe, though! I really wish I could buy one of each...but then I'd still have trouble deciding between tan, silt, and black lol.

I love my Madison Hobo, I just bought another in tan from the awesome Lord & Taylor sale! Honestly, I think the Hobo is pretty fancy looking. I was never a slouchy/shoulder bag kind of girl until I got her in black. The extra hardware on the straps really dresses it up, at least to me. I love my Daily in silt but I don't wear it when I want to dress up but my Hobo, I definitely do!

I will say I love the silt color and gold hardware so if I can find a silt Hobo at the outlet or on sale, I will absolutely pick it up. And I don't think she's too big at all. I'm just about 5'1 and I think she looks great. I've tried to get into the Phoebe but it's never really worked for me. Let us know what you decide after you see them IRL tomorrow!

I'm planning to take advantage of that sale, too! Does L&T have sales often? Saks also has a 25% sale but of course they don't carry Coach....I ordered the MK jet set tote there tho yesterday!

I agree with you--from the images, the Madison hobo looks very nice. I'd even say more so than the Phoebe in some ways! But I do think the slouchy look can be more casual so idk. So you like the tan? Does it get dirty? I'm worried about the bottom because it doesn't have feet.

I'm considering getting the hobo (I I opt for it over the Phoebe) in either black or silt or tan...do you use them seasonally? I personally have an obsession with silver hardware so that makes me think black (plus I worry about the getting dirty thing). But I wear a lot of black, navy, etc so maybe the tan would lighten up my outfits? I love love the silt from images I've seen but again, worried about it clashing with black and navy. I want this to be my default bag so it's important that it matches a lot!

I'll update tomorrow--im definitely making my decision tomorrow after visiting the store. The L&T sale ends tomorrow at midnight and I'm not sure how much longer the Nordstrom sale will be going either.....ah!

I don't like compartments. I don't like the way Phoebe looks like a pair of shorts open, I don't like the way it looks from the side. I would get the hobo. I think the single strap would be easier to deal with.
What do you have against shorts? Lol...just kidding! I didn't care for Phoebe either, till I tried her out! Now I really like my Orange Spice Phoebe! We all have different tastes though! ;)

The Madison hobo isn't on the Coach website anymore. Is it deleted?

I just learned this so I'll reply...it HAS been deleted. :-( It's completely sold out at Lord and Taylor, nationwide. I saw it today in my local Coach store (had to ask though) and saw it at Macy's as well. Nordstrom has it, as does Bloomie's. But yeah it's not listed on the Coach site anymore. :-(

On a semi-related note, I finally made my decision! I decided on the Madison hobo. :-D I tried both on in the Coach store and while the Phoebe is adorable and I like the more structured look (compared to the hobo at least), the compartments really bothered me. Yes, I did notice the shorts thing! lol But also the strip didn't slip easily over my shoulder--it was more of a maneuver to get it over my shoulder, and I can only imagine with a winter coat. I also didn't like how I couldn't really open the bag and go through it while wearing it--you at least have to slide your arm out (or maybe it's just me). Also, because of the pouch-y compartments, I feel like it doesn't open well while you're standing--you'd need to put it on a counter or something. It's definitely an attractive bag but for me personally, it wasn't comfortable or useful.

The hobo felt natural the second I slipped it on. It went on easily and stayed on. I was able to rummage through it while wearing it. It hugged my body (in a good way) and felt like second skin. I was wearing it around for a few minutes while the SA looked something up, and I actually forgot I had it on! It wasn't too big at all (which was my concern). It was perfect and I'm 5'4. Just a great bag, very "me." I do love the look of the Phoebe but the compartments bothered me too much, and the hobo just felt natural. Hope this helps someone else!

Do you think it will go to the outlets? Or FOS

No idea, sorry. What does FOS mean--maybe fully out of stock? Like I said, I know there are plenty at the big department stores and some at the Coach stores (but the SA did say they shipped most of them away). I'm personally getting it ASAP before it disappears, but I called Nordstrom and the inventory is decent there (Macy's and Bloomie's also have it still).

I got the Madison last month and I love it!!! Definitely get one before they disappear - if they still had them at the Coach store I would have bought one in another colour!
