Made in Italy vs Made in France vs Made in Spain

Awhile back I read an article in the WSJ about luxury brands that outsourced some of their things to be partially made in China. I remember distinctly that it mentioned Chanel and Hermes DO NOT do this.

It was awhile ago so that may have changed, but I doubt it.

I'm from France. It's well known there that high end fashion brands often partly manufacture in other countries (like China) where it's just cheaper to produce. I find it very unfair that they do that, and then label made in France, but it happens and people should know about it.

Here's the link to the french forum where i was discussing that.

It's in french though

My jumbo is made in Italy. :) I think it varies.

If this is true I will be very disappointed. Can anyone else weigh in on the 'partially made is China' issue?

I'm reading "How Luxury Lost Its Luster" and it addresses this very issue. Many bags and other goods are started in China and then "finished" in Italy or France. One handbag is made in China and then just the handles are put on in Italy, which allows the brand to stamp "Made in Italy" on the bag. They also place very small and strategically put "made in china" labels in the bag. some so tiny you would never see them...or they get sewn into the lining or seams. One place removes the Made in China sticker from the box and replaces with their own Made in ____ sticker. The factories are like cities--the workers have apartments there. the author does not disclose what brands do this...but she says that yes, even very upscale brands that say they are made in italy or france are yes, indeed made in China. she saw them herself. Except Hermes. They get away with it because they still mostly use high end materials and the workers are trained by the Europeans. but they are cutting corners in production for sure.
The book is soooo fascinating--even just for the history of the fashion houses. I recommend everyone who is interested in fashion read it! it was written before the 2008 economic collapse so some of it is not timely, but just to find out the history of the brands is worth it.

Only my V'day flap made in France, the rest of my stuff are made in Italy which include camellia embossed woc, camellia patent wallet, seasonal colour GST, 1 medium flap, 1 east west flap, 1 coco rain flap and 1 seasonal jumbo.

I was surprised to see a "made in Spain" marking on my new caviar wallet.
I was under the impression that Chanel production was only in France and Italy.
Are there other's out there that have a "made in Spain" wallet?

I've seen it on SLGs, especially wallets in my local boutique, though it is not so common yet. There have been Made in Spain products for Chanel for some time already. I've read somewhere in the forum b4 too on Made in Spain products.
