In December 2003 a Alma Multicolour now known as the PM was £600 GBP and the Speedy 30 multicolour was £850 GBP.

In March 2008 a Monogram Neverfull GM was £315 GBP

In February 2008, my Palermo PM was $1000. In March 2008, my mono NF MM was $650. In November 2008, my Damier NF MM was $700. In the spring of 2009, my mono speedy 30 was $700. In November 2010, my empreinte lumineuse pm was about $2180. The empreinte artsy was in the $2300 range at that time. When I bought my mahina L in June 2009, it was about $2780. It is amazing how much the prices have increased in recent years.

It's disgusting, how they upped the Neverfull's price. I got mine the end of 2009. The same bag is almost double the price today!

Back then the bag was worth the price but it's not worth the tag today. You can get something much better for the same or little more money. Gone are the days you could spend £600 in LV and walk out with two large bags or a bag and large wallet with change.

Unfortunately your in the US and I'm in the UK where prices vary greatly. We also pay the price we see and don't have to add tax which also would need to be filtered into any recommendations.

However your looking for options, I didn't say same sized bag I just said something much better. In the UK a speedy B 35 is only £60 more than the GM Neverfull for example which I would regard as a better bag. Even the speedy B 40 is only £70 more. Infact if regard a speedy as a much better bag, however different to the Neverfull and a normal speedy is much cheaper than the Neverfull in any size.

Plus when I bought my GM it was cheaper than he speedy but now it's far more expensive. Go figure, it's clearly a good money maker for LV

I don't know if the same thread already exists but I though it would be interesting to make (kind of) a list of old/new prices of LV pieces.
Or just mention some of the old prices and price you have to pay for the item right now.

Example:

When my aunt bought the Pochette Accessoires back in August 2012, she had to pay 285€
I saw the Pochette last year for 325€ (but only for a short time) and decided to get one a few months ago.
I had to pay 340€

I remember that the key etui for 4 keys used to cost 110€ not that long ago.
When I bought mine, I paid 140€

I bought my Neverfull MM in 2012 for $850 (my first LV) and now its $1260....such a painful price increase lol I don't really think that little pouch it comes with now is really worth the extra money.

I bought my Mono Speedy 25 in 2006 for $525. It's now $950 (good grief!!)

I bought my Mono Eva for $550 (if I remember correctly) in April of 2009. Now it's $775!

I wish I could remember the prices of all my other LV, my gosh! I do remember repurchasing my DE Speedy 30 Summer before last and being annoyed that a $625 bag in 2010 was over $800 in 2013!
