LV and the quality

I remember reading a thread recently that was concerned with people kind of 'nit picking' for lack of a better word, about Louis Vuitton. I got the feeling that the OP felt as though people's expectations were too high, and that LV was being picked on. They seemed to wonder why, if people were having so many problems, they would even buy LV or post about it?

I just dropped by my old stomping grounds over at the Coach threads, and have been visiting Balenciaga and some other forums as well, and I do not see that LV in particular is on the firing line.

In a purse "forum" it is a place for people to vent their issues with bags. They may love them and think they are perfect. They may find flaws that really do need to be addressed. They may be overreacting to a percieved flaw, and usually the other members will put them back into perspective.

Most of the bags on TPF are not cheap. Even a $300 Coach is more money than the average woman today would spend on a bag....we are a special breed. I can totally understand that when you purchase any bag, that you would want to carefully inspect it. My first LV DE NF had very slight alignment issue along one side seam, but it was not worth doing anything about, and my latest DA was pretty much perfect. TPF gives you an audience to decide if you are overreacting or not, and also people can help you find ways to rectify the probs if need be.

My points are these.......

1) Regardless of brand, if people spend, what to them, is a significant chunk of change on a bag, it is natural to want to inspect it and have it be good quality.

2) LV does not have a monopoly on quality control issues.......I see problem issues regularly mentioned in Tods, Mulberry, Coach, Balenciaga to name a few. LV lovers....in no way should we take it personally if people feel they are having quality issues.

3) Quality of bags waxes and wanes in cycles. It depends on outsourcing, quality control managment, who owns a company at any given time. It is not unusual to see periods of better and poorer quality in all bag brands. Additionally the help you recieve will vary from store to store, SA to SA. Again....LV does not have a monopoly on that either.

4) You are simply much more likely to read about *problems* online period. No matter what the subject. It is just the nature of humans. People rarely start a thread to say "Everything is great". They may say that in response to someone who is having probs with *their* product, but if everyone who had no trouble with their bags just posted about it, the boards would be overrun with pretty boring threads. "It's nine o 'clock and all is well!"

5) Posting about problems is really helpful to those of us considering certian bags, for instance the cracking on the DE NF. While ultimately I did not let it stop me from buying my bag, I know what to look for if problems start to arise and I know what to do to try to get some help. Knowledge is power, and if bag owners are noticing trends of problems with specific bags, this is a place we can go to share them....very helpful, and thank goodness we have a great place to do it!

So I just felt the need to share that just because people post about quality issues does not make them, or the board, negative, or picking on LV, or not loyal to the brand. We are just sharing information, and I doubt most people would be hanging around here if we did not love LV and bags in general. I don't know of anything or anyone I love that is perfect. If you find something....let me know :D

My Epi papillion handle broke off in the first couple of weeks. They replaced it, maybe it was just a defect?

Now i need Help, my black papillion epi leather has a big white scuff. I rarely use it anymore But really would love to clean it for those occasions when I know I'll be careful and need a smaller bag. Any advice? Thanks in advance!

Hi, you could ask in this thread: http://forum.purseblog.com/louis-vuitton-faqs/epi-care-tips-269281.html

Hope you gets some answers.

So my mc speedy 30 hardware is totally discolored and tarnished. The bag is about 3 years old and i've used it maybe 10 times. When I took it to the LV boutique today, the manager there INSISTED that LV only uses brass hardware, it's just different kinds of brass. I know from research that much of LV's hardware now is gold colored metal. I'm just shocked that she is insisting that it is brass.

I'm really turned off by LV at this point.

It's not brass, it's metal coated with gold so eventually they will get tarnished .

I do know that but it looks awful. I have many other bags that are way cheaper and the hardware have held up much better. I think I'm most shocked at how ill informed the LV sales people are. The store manager absolutely 100% insisted that the hardware is brass.

Some don't know and others are just not being honest! I agree they do look awful when it's all silvery!

Hi there, I am just researching and I find many bags has its flaws and some will "crack", like the neverfull strap. Does everyone think the quality has decreased or people are getting more observant ?

I must admit that some bags definitely changed and its quality decreased a lot. but some, would it be, because of us?
When I am just looking at my speedy, i think it looks so pretty.

however, when I get on Purseforum, I am trained to look at the alignment, the hardware and if they are on the same color tone, the leather with another speedy, and the stitching. Obviously I am not going to use those technique to look at my own bags. I love them :D

But I understand people are looking at those criteria and want the purse to last.
Are we putting too much expectation than before? I don't remember my mum looking at a handbag like this, she's just happy and use it. That's all.

In the past, woman dont bring ipad, laptop, textbook, makeup bag or even water bottle in the bag. they don't even have handphone.... Just wondering, does anyone thinks, Perhaps is the change of our habit that cause the problem?

There has definitly been a decrease in at least the quality of materials that are being used. And that's not just a perception. Everything from the canvas to the leather and brass coating on the hardware has gotten thinner and flimsier. The reason given is always some BS in my opinion (to make the bags "lighter", to better be able to pleat and fold the material etc) but we all know that those changes were made at least in part to cut cost.

I haven't had any issues with the bags purchased in the last 7 years. I've seen some "double stitching" around the corners of bags that TPF members post about sloppy work but I don't see it that way and it doesn't bother me. I've been generally happy with my bags.

I did recently notice glue coming off of my new IKAT insolite wallet. They fixed it right away.
