LV and the quality

I also have to agree that the quality is not what it used to be with LV. I always thought that they prided themselves on quality craftsmanship. It seems that they are getting to be like Coach. They are in a hurry to put a new bag out there and none of these new bags appeal to me at all. I think the Neverful was the first bag to reall y make me say "Are they kidding or what"? (Sorry Neverful owners!). The Artsy is the latest piece to make me say WTF too! IMO there is no bag that can compare to the timeless beauty of the Speedy. I have two that I bought about 4 years ago and I still get compliments on them today. I don't think the craftsmanship on these bags are of any less quality, though. Speedy owners, let's stand proud because we have the best in the LV line!!! :yahoo:

Both my damier pieces have gone through repair and back and I hate to say it but my neverfull is showing strap signs again and I cannot possibly send it back in!

I think i'm done with LV for now until I see/hear anything better.. T_T

Sad.. I really wanted a Trevi.. ):

Yes, it has gone down but I'm also another happy customer that has never had a problem with LV goods... Fingers crossed it stays that way!
Some of the newer styles were made as 'entry level' bags... so they probably had to cut cost in certain ways to suit the 'budget'.. :shrugs:

monokuro: I've had my Trevi since it first came out and wear it almost everyday sometimes, no problems whatsoever! I don't think there are any complaints about this particular bag either is there?

I think the quality has diminshed for sure..but compared to other designer bags out there..its superior!!! For the same money spent..my bet is always on LV for longevity!!!!

I'm having some issues with my new pieces. I bought a Palermo gm in July and a mono cles in August. The handles on the Palermo are coming undone and the glazing is coming off. I have only used is bag a handful of times and I tend to use the long strap rather than the handles so I don't understand the wear. Also the brass "plating" on my mono cles is peeling off. But I don't know if this is my fault because I use this everyday, but still am careful with it. I'm taking it into the boutique on Sunday, we'll see what they say. Any advice/similar experience?

^^^^
My mono cles which I purchased this Spring is showing chipping of the "brass" off the zipper pull and the zipper is looking more silvery by the day (used to be brass-looking). To me it looks like a cheap, plasticky coating revealing silvery metal beneath. I feel very disappointed and now I don't want to keep the LV bags that I bought that have zippers. And it will keep me from ever buying a zippy wallet or organizer now. It is very disappointing.

I recently purchased a new LV mono speedy to replace one bought 6yrs ago and it is absolutely made of thinner canvas and lighter in weight overall. I also noticed some quality difference between the countries where its made.......neat straight stitches on most "made in USA" bags and slightly pilled-sideway stitches on those "made in France" bags for example. Returned the speedy and currently considering Tivoli PM.

I agree... I'm a little disappointed with the quality issues. I've been buying LV for 10 years (I have a lot) and I haven't had any problems with the shoes and clothes but I have with some of the bags: glue discolouration being a pretty bad one with LV & Fendi and some seriously cheap metal used by LV and Gucci that rusts??? :amazed:

I showed a few things to a friend who is an engineer and he confirmed it's very very cheap metal and was horrified at the prices I paid but did a great job on removing the rust for me and makin' them look fab again :smile1:

He said he had only seen that type of metal for small parts as some of the cheapest around from India. Shame on LV and their greedy cost cutting! I would have thought they would want their pieces to last - less problems for them!

The SAs are seriously snotty about manufacturing defects :blah: but to be honest most of them are straight out of school and haven't seen the long term affects of some defects. The managers are pretty helpful.

Well hopefully if LV get enough complaints and returns they'll start realising they need to get the quality back to how it used to be. The good ol' days lol

Totally!!!!!!! My mom has a purse from 10 years ago and it still looks new. Mine is only 8 months old but the piping is coming out and they told me it's NOMAL!! $1500 for 8 months? The purse my grandma bought from Walmart for 10 dollars last longer than that!

i havent had any issues but most of my LV is from a few years ago or more
i tend to buy them second hand because i want some of the older LE styles
my mom has been using her LV wallet and it looks almost brand new

I do believe that the leather they use for piping is a lot "thinner" or "softer" than the older pieces. I have some bags from the 80's and 90's the piping might be cracking but not worn through.

I bought my MIL a Palermo last year, granted she use it everyday, two of the bottom piping are completing worn through. LV wants to charge almost $400 to replace them!
