A person on another site found the following:
Senior Equerry holds the position permanently. The Junior equerry holds their position for three years. Considering the time Lt Col Thompson has served between HRH Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles lll. I don't think he's leaving us any time soon.
I am searching for it now. If I find anything, I will post. Hope this is true.

I found this statement. I am still searching.
For most of her reign Queen Elizabeth II maintained an establishment of two Equerries plus a Temporary Equerry: the senior Equerry was a permanent appointment (joined to the position of Deputy Master of the Household); whereas the junior Equerry (who routinely held office for three years) was appointed in turn from each of the three services of the British Armed Forces.

Jonny is the junior eqeurry. Position was taken up in the spring of 2020 but his public duties around the role were delayed as a result of the UK being in the midst of a covid lockdown. The earliest public sighting of Jonny is June 2020 -

So really, his time should already be up. I’d say he hasn’t already changed over in the coming weeks, he may still be there until after September (KC3 and QC have an overseas tour coming up then).

Master of the household is currently held by Sir Tony Johnstone-Burt. That position is one that Tony will stay at…until he decides to retire. He has been there and held that position for a long time (wanna say since the late 90’s early 2000’s)

Tony is on the left in this photo.

Jonnys formal title is “equerry in waiting” which I think is confusing people - that is his job title. His replacement we believe holds the title “dismounted equerry in waiting” and that is James Boggis-Rolfe (on the left in this photo)

James has been doing more of the day to day engagements and events with the king over the last few months so it would make sense that those were “on the job” training days. As I said above, if jonny hasn’t gone already (I’d have kept him in role formally until at least Sept 8th to allow him one full year as equerry) then he will likely be out before the end of the year.

And I really really hate to be the party pooper here but for those that enjoy looking at Williams equerry, Rob Dixon…his term as equerry is also up at the end of the year.

Hankies at the ready. Thanks for naming Sir Tony Johnstone-Burt... I've wondered who he is for months.

Jonny’s wife (ex wife?) has made some changes at horses for health website, she doesn’t mention that she is married to army soldier, and she currently lives in Wiltshire, actually there is an army base, probably he is going back to army that’s why we haven’t seen him lately?

His last public appearance was July 19th - two weeks ago and Charles spent last week up on Scotland at Castle Mey so I doubt, given Charles has been out and about doing engagements that he’s left the role so suddenly - as I said before, if he does leave it will likely be sometime later this month when Charles and the rest of the family have their quiet, private time at balmoral (believe it’s the last two weeks of august)

Note: Charles should be out and about today (Saturday) at some local highlands games so there’s potential he may be spotted)

There was a comment on another social media site that made me laugh and is probably most applicable, it read that when it comes to Jonny appearances it’s either a tsunami or a drought!

Yes I noticed the changes to the website a few days ago actually but didn’t want to delve too deeply or speculate too much about her marriage as she is a private citizen (I did find it interesting, if that’s the right word, that she’s scrubbed the mention of even being married - she hadn’t mentioned him by name prior, just that she married a serving member of the armed forces) - and that’s all I will say on that!

Does anyone have any thoughts about how we will know that Jonny has finished his secondment as Equerry and returned to the Royal Regiment of Scotland and his regular military duties? Will he simply disappear or do you think that, because Jonny is so popular and has such a huge following, the Palace will announce his departure? I imagine there will be a lot of Palace inquiries from his fans if he is not seen for many many weeks. I also wonder if the King may have worked out something with the General commanding the Royal Regiment of Scotland to keep Jonny around a for awhile longer.

James Boggis-Rolfe may have begun serving as the "Dismounted Equerry In-Waiting" in November 2022 when he was seen accompanying Jonny around the time of Remembrance Day. So James may have been in training to become the King's Equerry for around 9 months at this point. I imagine there is a huge amount of information to learn behind the scenes as well as learning about working with Charles on his public visits and that James is gradually being given more responsibilities. If Jonny also served a training period as "Dismounted Equerry In-Waiting", when would his 3-year period as Charles' Equerry have actually begun? Royal Regiment documents show that Jonny continued to serve as the Major, Officer Commanding 5 Scots, into March 2020. If Jonny did serve a "Dismounted Equerry In-Waiting" training period, and did not become Charles' Equerry until later in 2020, we could possibly still enjoy having Jonny around through the end of this year. One can hope!

If James has been around for approx 9 months then I doubt he is the replacement unless he was originally brought in as an “extra equerry” for bigger event - like the South African State Visit and then the coronation etc and then kept on as KC3 had always been a workaholic preferring a packed schedule so it may just be an extension of the office- 9 months is a long on the job training period…

All I know is that Jonny took the role sometime in early Spring 2020 but his first public sighting was June 2020 - covid delayed the “in person” part of his job; there’s no earlier sightings of him in 2019 with Charles “in training.” he was very much Officer Commanding of 5Scots…so I guess it’s just a waiting game…he’s going to leave at some point!
