He will have gone to Highgrove with C &C
I have just seen the helicopter landing at Camilla's house in Wiltshire. Jonny wasn't on it and Charles drove himself off to Highgrove just with his Protection officer to Highgrove which is half an hour away. I think they both just need some time on their own for reflection and rest. The foreign dignitaries will start arriving at the weekend for the funeral, hopefully the Foreign Office will deal with the admin as the Palace staff. including Jonny must be completely shattered.

An equerry is always a couple of steps behind his Principal and you will often see Jonny with a black folder which contains every detail of what the King will be doing. He will know the names of the people he is going to meet, where they will have lunch, toilet breaks, absolutely everything from the time they arrive at an event to the time they leave. It is a combination of secretary/guide/source of information. Jonny is clearly trusted by the King to make the visit as enjoyable for the participants as possible and to keep the King safe at the same time. I cannot explain it any more than that really.

Can anyone clarify what an equerry to the King actually does? Did the Queen have an equerry?
At todays procession, flanking the coffin inside the guardsmen were a number of service personnel in different uniforms. If you look back at any image of the gun carriage you should be able to see them. I quickly counted about 6 or 7 on each side but that's not an accurate count. Those were The Queen's previous equerrys. I think they serve about 3 or4 years in the role and it rotates between the services. I def spotted the chap highlighted above. It stands to reason that they all develop a close relationship with their principal.
I am not sure if William has an equerry but both the Queen and Charles as POW had one.
There was one of the Queen's former equerrys missing from the side of the gun carriage - Sir Tim Laurence served and that is how Princess Anne met him when her first marriage had just failed.

(And Cpt Peter Townsend was one of The Queen's earliest equerrys. The man Princess Margaret wanted to marry.)

And Viscount Spencer, Diana's father.

Her children and grandchildren will surely welcome some family time with her. I have the impression Charles supports her in these roles.

When I learned the July 13th edition of Country Life she guest edited could be purchased internationally I bought a copy. It was dispatched July 15 and took almost 2 months to arrive in my US mailbox, worth waiting for. Her favorite view is Lochnagar from Bovaglie, “Yet, whatever the weather, the sight never ceases to lift the spirits and soothe the soul. And, sitting on a convenient granite boulder, near the run-down steadings at Bovaglie, lungs filled with that clean Highland air, there are few sights more stirring or beautiful. Somehow, the worries of the day-to-day world melt away, such is the power of this magnificent view.”

I love that with all the wealth and pomp and circumstance surrounding her, nature is her respite. She is a dedicated gardener and hope in these sad days she can find that kind of balm in her beautiful home gardens. The writer described them as “having an intimacy and idiosyncrasy that can only come from a personal connection. Every area of the gardens is part and parcel of a home, where lives are lived and shared, rather than a horticultural showpiece existing primarily for the admiring gaze.”

Thoroughly enjoying reading about her.

Edited to add: Sorry, apologies to Johnny. This should really go in the Charles and Camilla thread. Lost track of where I was. So many good reads in multiple threads,

Mods, please move this if you feel it should be reposted elsewhere. Thank you.

Prince William has an equerry from the Royal Navy.

Here’s another article from the Daily Mail about Major Jonny:
