Genuine worn RRS Officer’s Mess Dress shoes. This shows the patent leather, buckles and pattern quite clearly I think.

You mentioned patent leather. I saw a 3-part series about how the Queen (Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II) was protected and it showed how the soldiers were polishing their footwear into a shine so glossy you could see yourself in it. Some even used fire! I assumed Jonny's were shined in the way. Never occurred to me they were patent leather toes. Don't know about the rest of the shoe.

The brogues are a much heavier leather and can be ‘bulled’ to a mirror like gloss. The Dress shoes though are more delicate and wouldn’t stand up to the process required to get that shine.

The Telegraph Royal pic of the week published today was this one from the French Senate during the King's Speech with Jonny sitting front and centre supporting him. RomeGirl does Jonny speak French or any other languages?

Watching the Aus v Wales Rugby match in the World Cup in Lyon, and wondering if Jonny is watching too? I know he played the game himself, does anyone know what position he played in? Or was he a Forward or Back? I've never seen a photo of him playing for the RRS with a number on his Jersey, so then I could know his role in the team.

Does Jonny speak French…? I’ll tell you in a moment. But to make it more interesting I’ll drop a clue or two…
