BBC have a new series starting October 5th. Will be shown on BBC 1 and the iplayer (app) for those who have access. Following new army recruits as they make their way through basic training etc.

Adding to that for those interested there is on the channel 4 app a series called British Army Girls (2016) and follows female recruits as they too go through basic training.

I wonder which Regiment/s they will look at, and which bases they will be at?

It says in the press release that it’s based at the Infantry Training Centre in Catterick, North Yorkshire and follows them over the course of their 6 months of training.

I only know of it as I just saw the trailer on bbc 1 but it was over before I really took stock of what I was seeing (it’s a slow Sunday kind of day!).

Ahhh if this has an ounce of truth to it then props to the royal team for making it seem like “orgnaised chaos” was the intent rather than the reality!

That Bordeaux market/square engagement on the livestreams was utter madness! I’ve been royal watching for a long time and I’m struggling to remember a domestic or international engagement as physical as that - and that’s with the knowledge that the king likes doing engagements where he’s up close with people!

You could see how concerned the King's officials were from the film and photos taken in the square and on The Iron Duke afterwards. I'm relieved that they got back to Balmoral safely and now have the Balaklava ring of steel around them !

Ooh! Catterick AND Infantry. Jonny‘s old training ground…

Well done For spotting this. Thanks!

Balaklava have left Victoria Barracks now as Balmoral is open to the public again and the Monarch’s official Summer residence period is over.

I am sure they will be well protected though, as they decompress at Birkhall.

Strange, on 20th August their OC tweeted that they'd be at Victoria Barracks for 3 months. They were at Braemar the other day. Plans do change - now I'm disappointed !

Oh, thanks. That's interesting.

Usually they are here July/Aug/Sept and we saw a heap of them on buses the other day so I presumed they were off. Perhaps just leaving for an exercise somewhere. I'll stroll past the barracks next time I'm in town and have a look.

Thank you for finding the picture! I have never seen them this up close and not much detail to see in the pictures in the RRS Dress Regulations manual.

The soles are really thick. I love the design of the decorative leather. I wonder if they might be made by hand to get all of that intricate detail onto them. Now that I am looking at them up close, I can't help but think they must be very comfortable to wear once broken in. I have seen pictures of the RRS soldiers marching and, when you can see some of the soles, there are hobnails and what looks like a horseshoe-like metal plate on the toe

They were invited out for the day by a cley shooting club and seem to be having a good old time of it all round whilst Jonny....maybe not so much. I hope he's having happier days now, wherever he is !

La Rhumba

You made us all hungry when you told us you were fixing pasta bolognese and pudding after all of the Royal visit excitement on Friday. How did the dinner go?

Have you come across any Jonny pictures or videos that we have missed so far from the France visit?

I can honestly say that in my memory there has never been anyone in the cart as they march in and do a circuit. Mind you that is when they arrive at the grounds at 1:00pm... How many are in it when they adjourn to the local hall for lunch before marching in is a closely guarded secret!!!

My concern is always for the Bobby on a Bike who leads the marchers.... after the 6 dram stops he is wobbling a bit!
Doing graceful wobbling s-curves all the way onto the grounds! Never thought about the 6 dram stops. Explains it all now. :giggle:
