This week RomeGirl shared so many beautiful pictures of our Jonny in his mess dress and Bellecrown gave us another lovely picture.

The screen grab from below is fuzzy but it does show a peek of Jonny's 10A Mess Dress for State Dinners. I may have the uniform designation wrong because I am still sorting all of the different types.

La Rhumba was interested in the buckled evening highland shoes. Just a little peek at the buckles can been seen in this photo. From the Versailles State Dinner.

Thank you for the photos!

This footwear looks more comfortable than what we usually see Jonny wearing. His combination of kilt stockings, brogues, and gaiters must be uncomfortably hot during times of the year. And the kilt hose! Must be a nightmare to keep those so the pattern is proper on both sides :amazed:

Whisper ... I wonder if anyone ever loses their Sgian Dubh from their stocking?

No, but I do have a friend who managed to stab himself in the leg with his Sgian Dhu when he knelt down awkwardly !
Picture this : a West Coast Clan gathering, late afternoon, an injured Clansman, bloodied but in good cheer being full of whisky and in full Highland dress, taken to the nearest small hospital, wheeled into Accident and Emergency on a trolley still singing Wild Mountain Thyme....
A&E medics found this hilarious, the noise and word spread so of course others on duty came to view the sight !
The Clan do went on regardless although he was a key player...enough said.

Yep. We breed 'em tough here in the Highlands! :gotmuscles:

Thanks for this. I laughed myself silly as this is so typical of our wee gatherings.

Woooooo! :wtf: This is completely deserving of an entire song! To be sung far and wide at each of this group's gathering. Thank goodness he was full of whiskey but sad he must have felt every stitch the next morn. Apologies for the laughter but the image in my head is just too hilarious

I watched the Lonach Gathering and had a laugh when I saw the men with the cart end the procession - obviously for those who had fallen on the way, as it were ! Due to the King's presence I suspected that the cart had been emptied before they marched past him!

I can honestly say that in my memory there has never been anyone in the cart as they march in and do a circuit. Mind you that is when they arrive at the grounds at 1:00pm... How many are in it when they adjourn to the local hall for lunch before marching in is a closely guarded secret!!!

My concern is always for the Bobby on a Bike who leads the marchers.... after the 6 dram stops he is wobbling a bit!

Ahhh if this has an ounce of truth to it then props to the royal team for making it seem like “orgnaised chaos” was the intent rather than the reality!

That Bordeaux market/square engagement on the livestreams was utter madness! I’ve been royal watching for a long time and I’m struggling to remember a domestic or international engagement as physical as that - and that’s with the knowledge that the king likes doing engagements where he’s up close with people!

I was curious about the brogues, as I had no idea what they looked like without the splats. Found a picture. The sole is really thick.

Thank you for finding the picture! I have never seen them this up close and not much detail to see in the pictures in the RRS Dress Regulations manual.

The soles are really thick. I love the design of the decorative leather. I wonder if they might be made by hand to get all of that intricate detail onto them. Now that I am looking at them up close, I can't help but think they must be very comfortable to wear once broken in. I have seen pictures of the RRS soldiers marching and, when you can see some of the soles, there are hobnails and what looks like a horseshoe-like metal plate on the toe

I remember the heavy rain and storm in Germany when the King visited the cheese dairy and the eco village. That didn`t ruin the visit at all. They improvised a bit and it worked. After all, such a chaos as in Bordeaux - intended to look this way or not - wouldn´t happen in Germany.

Definitely not hand made - this is the British Army we are talking about! The cost would be exorbitant.

They do all have the the plate and hobnails. Extends the wear of the soles, and helps makes that satisfying thumping whomp when they stamp and march.
