Julide, it’s good to ‘see’ you too! What I want to know is how you determine second tier grails.... for me, second tiers tend to become first tiers and then yu have to try to let some go. . .

Second Tier Grail:
/ Sekcond tir grāl /
Adjective:

Adjective: My second tier grail. Adctive: The second tier grail.

A second tier grail is a design one likes or already owns in a CW that would be similar or identical to one that already in a persons collection.

Phrases: My second tier grail is Turandot in blue, even though I own several blue scarves.

Origin:
Latin- secundus callax

Sorry!:blushing:I could not help myself!!

But I tend to go for design, then find what colours are missing in my collection. If I then find another CW which is a repeat of an existing scarf I have then I put it on my second tier list. I tried buying designs or CWs twice which I thought would be nice ( I have never worn them...) but in reality my well researched designs and CWs seem to work well within my collection. I hope this made sense!!:flowers:

I oddly think it’s almost easier to consign a bag than a scarf. To me, the bag is more do I use it enough to justify its taking up space, whereas the scarf dilemma is, there is a hypothetical situation that I haven’t imagined yet, with an outfit I don’t yet own, that this scarf would be perfect for, . .amd if I let it go, how much more will it cost when I decide I cannot live without it
So true!!

Love this! Thank you! I’m the opposite, I buy for color first, if I don’t know the pattern. If I do know and like the pattern, then I buy. . . too much, such as Ex libris or sieste au paradis. Hugs

Love this!!! I too tend to go for patterns first and then think about the colors that I’m missing and/or colors I know work with my skin tone.
Every now and then there is a pattern I love and then when I put it on, it looks awful on me. That’s why I have to try on as opposed to buying online. Almost all the scarves I bought online I had to re-home!
I’ve stopped buying 90’s because I don’t wear them but am now into CSGM’s which are more than double the price (yikes).

Yes, and the bag is bigger, takes up more room in the closet, esp with the orange box
I too find curating bags is easier. the unused bags stare me in the face while some scarves are forgotten - I may put them down after wear, brus them in a drawer - out of sight even tho I may have been unimpressed last time I wore it

Cross-posting, sort of....but I loved reading this conversation. I have limited myself to strictly Asian themes. Forced myself to not own more than a dozen at one time and have culled most of my loud CWs and most of my duplicate themes. Just picked up a Les Artisans today.
First tier grails: Turandot in ANY CW (like almost everyone else), Jonques et Sampans with heavy black or navy tones, and Imperiales (I considered heavily, and then passed up the plum one a few years ago and kick myself).
Second tier grails: Parures Samourais (came out when I was on Ban Island), Ballade de Heian, and Espirit Ainou.

It's funny you say that, because I was thinking the same thing  I actually select for the browns, oranges, and deep greens but there seems to be a lot of purple and pink that come with those as well. The white Miao and the pink Rhythm are the two outliers, and the ones I am considering rehoming as I have never worn either one.

How interesting! I wish I could buy on colour alone. There are many amazing colours I have passed on because I just did not like the design....:lol:I think sieste and ex Libris need to be in large groups in a collection. They are great designs. And also quite opposite as in terms of design and CWs:flowers:
Adding: and thank you for sharing!

Sad to hear about your luck online. I don’t have a store anywhere near me and have to rely solely on tPF photos and online shopping. I wish I had the luxury of shopping in store...though I may spend more...

I actually stopped buying CSGM and went to purchasing 90’s because of the durability of materials. I don’t like how they can be some worn much faster than a 90. And for storage and traveling, I can take more 90’s and mousselines with me when I travel...whenever that maybe again.
And thank you for the comments. I really enjoy hearing everyone’s thoughts. They really help me look at my own collection and what direction I should head next. :flowers:

Fabulous collection. I think the plum imperiales would be amazing
They also made a special edition for I think Hong Kong. Ballade de heian is such a lovely design! Also I think Lanit has a special edition of Galop volant in amazing yellows. Espirt de Ainou ties so beautifully! You have some amazing designs on your grail list!:flowers:

Now that you mention only Asian themes...I now wonder how many h has made? Off to start a list!:flowers:

Oooh - I’d love to know what I’m missing! Then again, maybe I’m better off not knowing. I didn’t know about ex Libris til now and it’s GORG! :oh:
There are a couple I’ve seen and passed on just because they didn’t make the grail list. I didn’t care for Kimonos et Inros or Soies Volantes. There was also the one with the Bonsai tree (can’t remember the name) and one with fans, neither of which appealed to me at all. I do recall another one with geishas or goddesses that was Turandot-esque. That one was lovely!

Yes! There are many I can think of but perhaps can’t quite remember the name. Yes kimonos et Enros had too much space and the pattern was a bit too symmetrical. Which is great if there is no huge border IMHO. Ex Libris en kimonos is my all time favorite scarf. It was the one that got me started on buying multiples.:rolleyes:I’m not sure whither to thank it or mourn that I ever laid eyes on the design!! I will post the list when I get a chance as I would love to see what you might fill your collection with.:flowers:
