I am new on collecting hermes scarves..
I now have some 90 cm silk and realise that what I love is their design..
Wearing them casually is not that easy..
At least I did not yet find the way to make them work easily.
I tend to use my 140 silk and more .
Will also add a 140 CSGM for winter.
For now unfortunately I think I need to reduce my 90 : will surely let go the ciel orange c’est la fete and another one that I did not choose yet

I let go of most of my 90s, but have started to buy more 140 CSGM and mouselline after a very long hiatus (due to bag priorities). if I like a pattern, I like buying more than one colorway, so long as they all work. Sadly, whenever I try to trim down the collection, I find myself missing a scarf and repurchasing. . . But then at least you know you really love something,

I’m glad I’m not the only one who buys designs in multiple colours! Good to “see” you again!!:flowers:

I well remember when I thought buying more than one cw was the most ridiculous thing ever.... :drinks:

The motorcycle .... hmmmm ... the rest is great
Another quasi Artisans fan here. None happened to arrive at our store prior to quarantine but then I wasn’t keen on many of the colorways since it duplicated the scale and colors of some pf my other silks. Since time has passed I am ready to just wait and see if it really sings to me should it ever come into the store.

I have held back on many new designs because I do feel like H does similar color combinations, i.e. orange/blue, yellow/gris/, blues and pinks, etc etc. I mean I have to really really be wowed with a new design to buy yet another colorway that I already have.

I’m at a good place with my collection of silks. I do think I can cull another dozen 90 silks, but many are very special to me as souvenirs or sentiments. I have to stick to the one in one out as best as possible to not feel overwhelming guilt about hoarding lol!

I could totally see you in Artisans but I know what you mean about waiting to be wowed.

Culling is good, if painful. But the scarves I have been trying to rehome are not moving at all. Everything on eBay right now is either ridiculously overpriced, or a giveaway. Ugh.

On repetitive CWS,
trying to explain this to a friend, I went to the H site, and got all the 90s to appear, they are retrieved from the database by color group
Here is a TINY thumbnail of the results, first the red pink ones, then the blues etc
It looks like 14 red ones, then 14 blue green ones - I picked the TINY to show the overall impression of the collection not the details
To me, there are 13 blue scarves that would never buy, one blue one is enoughcws .jpg

Compare to the days of TURANDOT and RENCONTRE OCEANE - each had a hot pink/fuschia/red cw, but not in the same season , if you liked the super nova red cws, then you got the RO and later the TURANDOT. There were not 14 diff designs in red in the same season, there was T or RO, the red cws were absolutely showcased.

I am standing on my hand. No purchasing Been photographing, ironing and wearing

Examined my own HS and noticed that I tend to have multiples of the ones that speak to me. Mostly been considering which designs are IMHO timeless, not trendy - YES to the basic BDG (I have ONE), NO to BDG shadow/wash etc - yes I am a fuddy duddy but am wearing tie dye today - tshirt from Bahamas - it will last a year - so trendy is not wrong, but not at the HS price point

Some people are completionists - they want want one of most everything - not me, I actually own relatively few designs
The last design that maybe spoke to me is ARTISANS but honestly it now seems odd - it seems to me the design will not age well

The interesting thing is to learn which designs I have in multiples, or conversely, which ones I avoided entirely
Going back to the question of repetitive cws and repeated designs eg CALECHE ELASTIQUE 2020SS - photos from H.com - 3 very similar CWS in same season and the same design
But, a design that is recolored over a period of time shows a lot more variation - eg my CUIRS DU DESERT - two dark blue cws but totally different impressions - there were about 3 years apart
OK , I know CUIRS is not a fav or many - guy in the middle - but I think of Pierre Loti when I see this scarf
So, the 14 blue cws of various designs this season are nothing I need, but I might buy a recolored blue 3 years from now, even in a repeat design in a diff concoction of blue

I thought I would bump this thread.:flowers:I have been thinking about my collection during this extra time at home. Has anyone else done some culling or rethought their future purchases? I haven't culled yet but I haven’t planned my S/S20 purchases yet either. Would love to hear your thoughts:flowers:
I've been thinking about your post for a while now, and can chime in.
I've thought about what I really am wearing - thanks to my spreadsheet I can truly see it. I have mostly 90s, so they do get the most wear, but my most worn scarf is a 140 mousseline.
So, I went through the drawers at the first of June, and listed 13 scarves. All were scarves I *liked*, but didn't wear often and a few I had kept simply because they fit a theme on the SoTD - - not a good reason to keep something. I may regret selling one or two of them… one especially because it was a mini-grail, but when I took it out of the drawer, I noticed how similar it was to another in color and thought "I wear the other more."
Nothing currently is setting me on fire at H; I have found a few new-to-me scarves that I had to have though!

(I had a moment of insanity and thought about selling some purses. Fortunately I came to my senses!)

Cookie you are too funny! I’m glad you’ve kept your bags. You have some pretty cool ones!!:flowers: I like how you have thought about how you wear your collection. I think this must be the next step for me. Actually documenting and wearing. I have started documenting but haven’t started documenting when I wear them. Gosh sounds like you are really being thoughtful even listing a “treasured” scarf because it is not worn. I am totally impressed! I hope I can be that impartial when I decide to let some scarves go. Thank you so very much for sharing!:flowers:

Good point @Jbizzybeetle also those placeholders can tend to set you off course.

I didn't go after place holders as much as I tend to go to my second tier grails. If I can't find the top one I am looking for I tend to expand my search for other designs. Which in turn turns into waaaaay to much time spent searching...:sweatdrop:Keeping on course has saved me hours of time!!
Julide, it’s good to ‘see’ you too! What I want to know is how you determine second tier grails.... :) for me, second tiers tend to become first tiers and then yu have to try to let some go. . .

I oddly think it’s almost easier to consign a bag than a scarf. To me, the bag is more do I use it enough to justify its taking up space, whereas the scarf dilemma is, there is a hypothetical situation that I haven’t imagined yet, with an outfit I don’t yet own, that this scarf would be perfect for, . .amd if I let it go, how much more will it cost when I decide I cannot live without it
