People have mentioned that there has been a price increase in Canada, a cles increased from 200CAD to 245CAD .. that is more than a 20% increase, and not including multiple increases not too long ago as well.. which is a bit crazy.

I then looked at our price for the cles at $200USD which is equivalent to $279CAD. Why is it that USA prices are at such a premium?! Seems like everywhere else is cheaper, except for here. Honestly makes purchasing a bit discouraging when you know you're paying for an insane premium vs the rest of the world.

It has to do with the currency exchange rate. The Usd is now very strong against the other currencies. That is the reason why there has been so few price increases in the US. A lot has changed in the previous couple of years. When the dollar was weak, the prices went up because of the currency differences. Unfortunately they don't change the prices back when the currency gets stronger. There is also a big difference in price due to import fees. All US brands are much more expensive here i Europe because of that. Designer brands are always less expensive in the country they originate from.

That makes a lot of sense. I didn't necessarily think about the current exchange rate. Unfortunately, even though our dollar is strong against other currencies, its not really that strong here in NYC! lol . It's really a one sided street, price will always increase, but never decrease. Yes I agree brands are always less expensive in their original country. Like Japan products, just about everything is 2-3x more here.

Again, I don't know where you were seeing those prices, but the Cles in Canada was $225. It had an increase of $20, not $45.

Some of the price jumps in Canada are from 1560 to 1800 on a Speedy 30 Bandolier . Eva from 990 to 1090. Mazarine from 2900 to 3250. Siena pm from 1900 to 2230. I feel like this is the largest increase I've ever seen.

It is true that prices for goods are usually cheaper in their home country. Europeans are always amused when Americans say that something is cheaper in Europe, because to us it seems all goods are cheaper in the US APART from European high end brands! Let us have one thing :p  I have lived in NY though and that is another story, so much more expensive than the rest of the US.

Last year chanel imposed some crazy price increases in Europe with the excuse of the weak Euro. (40% in some cases). Now European prices are about the same as the US I believe or maybe even more expensive in some cases. It has turned me right off the brand.

In terms of US LV vs Canada, I think your comparison with the Canadian prices is an unfair one as the purchasing power of the Canadian dollar is quite bad compared to the price of goods. The wages in Canada as a whole are not much higher than the US (if at all) and it seems everything costs a least 20% more plus higher taxes. That was my impression when I lived there vs the US. A few years ago even when the Canadian dollar reached almost 1:1 with the American dollar, the price of goods did not reflect that.

I think at this point Louis Vuitton must feel very expensive to Canadians considering wages and taxes etc. Maybe some Canadians have an opinion on this?

The good thing for the US is that you avoided the price increases that happened everywhere else last year because of the strong American dollar. Perhaps you will avoid it this year too? I too agree that it sucks that they use currency fluctuations as an excuse to raise prices but when the currency gets strong again they NEVER decrease prices. It's all very convenient for them. If they really are using currency strength as an excuse they shouldn't rise US prices this year as a reflection of the strong US dollar

Luckily I bought my Alma PM in the DM for $1890. It was actually an early gift. Less than 3 weeks later the price jumped to $2050 so $160 increase. I was so thrilled I got my gift early & got the saving. I had to buy the strap separately so it jumped from $340 to $370. The DE 16mm strap was already expensive to begin with. That's really sad. Also, I was checking the speedy B25 as well. It was at $1620 it is now $1780 i.e. $160 increase as well just like the increase for the Alma PM.

Just wanted to add that it isn't just LV that has gone up in price due to the dollar. Even food has gone up. A couple years ago bananas were 58cents/pound. now it is at 77cents/pound. It sounds small but a lot of things go up in price across the board. When it comes down to it, importing anything into Canada is expensive and it really depends on the strength of the economy and the Canadian dollar.

I try not to be a Debbie Downer and be grateful for what we have. Yes, we have lower wages and higher taxes compared to US (and thus lower buying power), but at the same time when you have a family member who gets to stay in the hospital for a few months with life saving surgery in ICU and paid by taxes, it really is worth it.

Just gotta take the prices changes as it comes and deal with it. Like real estate, the canadian dollar has always gone up and down in cycles so take advtange of the next cycle when it gets closer to par.
