I'm not going. The cattle-calls and the hugeness of it takes out the fun out. H shouldn't have so much unwanted/unsaleable stock in the first place. Nothing worth fighting over that's for sure.

I buy what I want when it's in store, and if it's not in store, there's always next season.

Unless they have any RTW from JPG era, there's nothing I want :sunnies:

The only good thing would be seeing you all there.
Yeah I wonder how they still have so much leftover stock to sell in the sale if we all have struggled to buy anything we want in the stores :confused1: Last year’s sale stock probably was a result of all the lockdowns, but this year? :shrugs:

Prob. lots of left over stock from last year's, Ally Pally main hall is absolutely HUGE

Ally Pally is practically my home so I'm happy for that, I used to love the sales when they were in the Music Rooms in town (and no one knew about them).

Oh gosh I hear you on the sales back in the day..
Did you ever go to one at the back of the Grosvenor or Dorchester many moons ago (even before Music rooms.if my memory serves?) They even had SLG at that one.
the sales felt special and a privilege to attend then.
Now its hoards of re-sellers (in groups) with huge suitcases and bad attitude.
I think if this one was back in central london or Kensington I'd feel more excited but its a day off work, likely a 2 hour journey to get there, queue jumping and queuing ...I'm talking myself out of this by the hour...

My mother loved a good sample sale, one blurs into another- but maybe.

I bought RTW, some of my favourite hats, but no SLGs or scarves in Music Room days, scarves only in Paris.

We are only getting these sales again because of Brexit and H avoiding duties. That they can run for so long in such a large venue alerts me to H has tons and tons of unloved and unsold stock, all from the UK.

if anyones in half a mind, I’d say go, don’t expect wonders, don’t dress up too much and have ‘just for fun‘ mindset.

Now that you say it, it does seem quite odd that while there’s nothing available in store (in my size at least), the sale has been planned for a whole week. Regardless I think I’ll still go since I tend to like their more unpopular styles anyway. I might be lucky

I think you hit the nail on the head @papertiger re the cost implications to H for returning unsold UK stock back to EU. The customs / import costs are now sky high to get anything here! Stock levels in UK stores seem to be way better than France (and Switzerland) ironically.

Hi @papertiger ! Would you mind expounding a bit on this - truly curious on the Brexit impact. Is it because H will have to reship the extra stock back to France if they don’t have a sale?
Yes. Before Brixit goods could be shipped between the UK and France as often as H wanted with no duties. After the Music Room years, all very hush hush (H doesn’t like it being known they have sales at all) all our overstock went back to Paris to feed the big sales.

it’s not just the money, the time too. Some French companies are even routing goods through Switzerland to avoid delays and EU tariffs (like Lalique).

All duties would be passed on (to the end user - us) on OOD sale-stock, that’s the last thing you’d want. If shipped back to Paris, H would have to pay duties twice (already having paid once) because the goods would still going to be sold in the EU. Customs doesn’t do sale or return

Hey ladies I’m flying in from Canada and will already be in london for business so definitely want to go the sale.

Just have a quick question?
If you’re going on the the regular customer days (sept 22-24) will you need an invite or can you just show up?

Thank you

It's astonishing to hear that duties are now so prohibitive that H is willing to sell items at such discounts just to avoid... I suppose if the stock did make its way back to Europe, it may just end up in an after-season sale anyway. @papertiger do online goods have different terms, since (I think) they get sent back to Paris after a return request?

I was interested to attend again this year, but Alexandra Palace... that journey takes a real effort! Do I really want more H scarves and sneakers (I won't answer that question)

most H goods come from France, as a consumer using a uk website you don’t pay extra duties (not directly anyway) But tariffs will be factored in to prices, either in UK prices or absorbed globally.

all costs are eventually passed on to customers, any loses H incurs. H still makes a healthy profit at sale prices, what’s left again presumably goes to Petit H.

be attentive at the sales, stuff run though lots of hands, tried on lots of feet. If anyone wants stuff pristine and straight out a sealed box, not tried on, an H sale may not be for you. I know lots of members here are very picky (as we have a right to be at H prices) if this is your first sale, don’t expect store-room fresh. It’s a sale, but prices are still going to add-up, especially if you are going to justify making a journey or taking a day off.

I believe you need an invite as last time they checked my invite and scanned my QR code from memory to gain entry.

Following on from what @papertiger said even though it’s a sale for those who have never been to a Hermès sale before don’t expect sample sale prices.
And when buying scarves check check and re-check for the positioning of the ‘S’ stamp ( as all sale items are stamped) The last thing you want is to purchase a scarf with a stamp that shows when you wear it.
