Hello All,
I just purchased my first LV with vachetta leather (pre-loved) and was hoping I could get some much needed advice. The bag I purchased is nearly 3 years old and in excellent condition with a beautiful, even, light honey patina. The previous owner hardly used the bag and has never treated the leather in any way. Do I need to apply LMB protector to the leather if it has patina? If my bag gets wet will water marks be visible. I definitely want to protect the leather from water and soil. Should I clean the leather before I apply the protector. I do not see any dirt, stains or water marks on the vachetta. Since it is 3 years old though, I'm sure there must be some light surface dust and dirt. Will cleaning it alter the appearance of the patina in any way, lighten, darken or leave streaks? I am really hestitant to do anything that may alter the appearance but feel like I should clean it before I apply the protector because of the age. Have any of you treated older bags with the LMB kit? If so, did you do all three steps or just the protector if the bag wasn't stained or dirty? I would appreciate any advice, suggestions or opinions! Thank you all!

From how you described the condition of the bag I believe the LMB Vachetta Kit is the best thing to get. It comes with the vachetta cleanser, conditioner, and protector. You should clean it before applying the protector. They also sell a vachetta pre-treatment but I think this is only to be used on brandnew white vachetta. I suggest you visit the Lovin My Bags website for more firsthand info.

Thank you! That's what I was thinking but it's nice to have a second opinion. I checked out the Lovin My Bags site and the pre-treatment is used for new vachetta so I think the 3 step kit is what I need.

I purchased a preowned Galliera with a beautiful, even patina as well. I used the LMB cleanser (very small amount - don't overdo this step, apply it lightly and evenly then buff and let dry). 30 minutes after applying the cleaner you can apply the protector - 2 light coats; the first coat will dry quickly. Buff with a clean white cloth after 2nd coat is completely dry. 24 hours later you are ready to apply the final step - conditioner with soil release and buff again once dry.

The vachetta on my bag was not dirty; I am just a germ-phobe who likes to clean the previous owner out of the bag. :) Now the canvas was a different story! I was not prepared for how dirty it was! You can use LMB cleanser on the canvas - the only product in the kit that can be used for canvas. The amount of dirt that came off the canvas was surprising since it did not look dirty at all from a cursory glance.

Thank you, that's good to know. I didn't realize you could use the cleanser on the canvas too. Did you experience any changes in the color or texture after using the LMB kit?

Personally, I just use LMB on the leather-- while you can use it on the canvas, that stuff it kinda pricey and I'd rather keep it for the leather! I just use baby wipes on the canvas and it does a great job of removing light dirt that you otherwise wouldn't have known was there.

I clean the leather with baby wipes. However, any type of leather needs conditioning (or natural oils) to stay healthy or it will crack with time (the car seats of luxury cars are the same way). What I do is I clean my hands, let it dry, and then rub my hands around all the vachetta. It will not stain bc it's free of lotions. The natural oils from my hands moisturize the vachetta. For me it has worked. I dont want to see my leather cracked for lack of natural oils.

I think it's the conditioner that can be used on the canvas as well. You may want to check the website but I'm pretty sure the conditioner can be used.

About the Lovin My Bag. Used it on a new Louis Vuitton Delightful and treated the handbag with pre-treatment (good), protection (good) and conditioner with soil release (bad). Not a fan of the conditioner. What the company does not tell you about the conditioner is that it will lighten Louis Vuitton stamping on handbag. I noticed it as I was applying the conditioner and realized that part of Louis Vuitton stamping was getting lighter. The stamping is embossed and shaded it seems. The embossing does not go away but the shading came off. Not sure if soil release of the conditioner did it but however I am not happy about it. In the future I will only use their products to clean handbags. The conditioner did not hard any other part of the bag. You would think the company would test all parts of a handbag and put a warning sign. Maybe I am picky but I don't like that part of my Louis Vuitton Paris stamp in the front has now some letters dark and other letters light. I caught it lightening it and then I stopped using it.

O dear, thank you!:smile1: Im actually gonna use it for my Artsy Mono as well! I am so scared to treat my bags but i fin'lly decided to give it a shot bec i'm too scared to get it stained with anything esp water marks. I love you tip about the make up sponge, i'm totaly gonna try that! What about the braided handles, what did you used to apply on it? And how? Did you buff it after it dries? Did you noticed any darkening after? :D thanks so much!

It did darken my new vachetta. I won't use it again on new vachetta.

I just bought a speedy b 30 and thinking about treating it with LMB. What's the difference between the "for handles only" and the "protector"? The description on the website seems very similar. I just wanted to treat all the vachetta including the handles, strap and vachetta strip that runs down the side of the bag.

Which one should I use?

Also, I'm in Australia and I can't LMB here, however my gf is going to be in LA in about a fortnight, does anyone know where she can buy some?
