To go even further down the rabbit hole, I find Hermès - and TPF - a healthy outlet and distraction from what could be a more negative cycle of mind. I mean - in the most euphemistic way - I would rather, say, obsess over the bags Hermès makes in the Mauve Sylvestre/RGHW combo than spend my afternoon having an existential crisis. It certainly doesnt keep me from doing the things I need to do, but it‘s definitely a more positive (and much more fun!) focus and outlet.
I agree with everything you said specially this part ! Hermes makes me happy and is something I do for myself . In a world of responsibilities and having people depend on me , hermes shopping becomes my escape ( I keep it healthy and harmless.. but not to my wallet) .

And YES!!!! With the day to day tasks, kids and the word being what it is .. obsessing over an ombre lizard mini k I saw on IG and trying to find ways to acquire it is really an outlet .

Nobody actually understand this ( except for TPFers) they think I am wasting my time and there is no such thing as hermes for a hobby :panic:.

I will never stop shopping at Hermes because it would be too hard for me to say 'goodbye' to those who help me at my boutique. Everyone is so nice and genuine; I credit the team for keeping me in pretty scarves/bracelets/bags/twillaines. It is also unrealistic for me to stop adding to my collection because Hermes items are heavenly. (I easily cave when I am surrounded by "pretty".) I enjoy wearing pieces from my collection and reminiscing about the times spent with other H friends purchasing alongside me. (I started my love affair with H in 2006 with an enamel bracelet. It is truly amazing that I get excited each season to see what is in store. There isn't any other brand that I have stayed with for so long. So many beautiful things.....) Also, thanks to all on Tpf! Your shared wealth of knowledge, pictures of your H, and friendship are so appreciated. To be among nice people, who enjoy H as much as I do, is a blessing to me! I could never stop Tpf!

Hermes is store where I have shopped for years. It is a pleasant and beautiful place. I can’t imagine why I would not continue to shop there. I probably don’t shop (for anything) with the fervor that others do and I don’t give any thought at all to spend level and all that. When I want a bag I ask my SA for the size and color that I want and when it shows up, it shows up.

I agree with EB and a lot of old timers, Hermès isn't what it used to be. I bought my first Kelly in 1980, so 42 years ago! I have been in love with H ever since I saw ladies with Kellys in my late teens! A lot has changed since. My old SM, who had been there 25 years, and SA have retired, there have been about 3 new SMs in the last 6 years. All the new stuff they bring out each season, especially the scarves, I really don't like. The new bag designs I find hideous. I'm happy I have my Box and Barenia bags from when they were still available. I'm also very sad that the 32 HAC was rested as it's my favorite bag. I still like to come here and check things out, hoping there might be something that appeals to me. Also tPF is my little haven to get away from daily problems! I was one of the first members here back in February 2006, and there are still a lot of us oldies around! This is my playground and I love this place❤️

" Will I ever be done with hermes ?" Is a question I ask myself regularly, specially after mad shopping sprees. And the answer is always " No ! of corse not ! but I will try not give in to temptation anymore " but I always fail to .I tend to become crazy at hermes and throw caution to the wind with " you only live once " nonsense .

I can't say I will ever be done specially with bags. Each time I think of a bag or buy one, I always aim for bags that are true to my style and I can see myself carry and enjoy forever. I don't think I can be content with a small collection, not when hermes introduces new colors/designs or remake/bring back old ones every season.

I don't really like trend or even buy something trendy and hate the idea that Hermes is trending now !!! people assume that I follow such trends, crazy for selling my soul to hermes and for buying things I don't won't just to be offered a bag .. this might play a factor in drawing me away from some hermes items. I am already done with some hermes models just because I've seen them everywhere! I wanted to buy the bride a brace bag for my makeup and toiletries but changed my mind after seeing it everywhere. Specially after seeing people use it as a purse and add a strap to it.

There are a lot of things hermes offers that I can't find anywhere-els. The brands fun/colorful/effortless/simple but complex designs will always take my breath away .
Dear, buy the Bride a Brac and use it as it was meant to be used, as a toiletries bag. For many of us here we actually prefer that a lot of our Hermes remain a private enjoyment, alas it has become as you say, a trend at the moment. No one sees my Bride a Brac except hotel housekeeping and no one needs to know I was offered a third. Shhhhhh

When will I be done with Hermes? When I'm broke!:whut:
I think even then , I'll find a way to get back on my feet, buy more hermes and repeat

you are absolutely right , I think this is a thing I have to work on. The hype + seeing it pop up on social media made me dislike the design . It happened also with colors such as Etoupe, Etain and Gold and with picotans.

I forgot to say in my above post that nowadays I prefer checking the secondary market for vintage bags and scarves/shawls. Searching for Holy Grails that I didn't manage to get first time round. As a result I'm much less often at my local H store.

@Cinderlala
The Cap’n’s going to college!!! Yikes, where does the time go…
DD is a medical resident and DS is 31. Ouch.

Back to topic. I am not through with Hermes per se, I just buy things on reseller sites. I found a grail Shawl this morning and bought it so fast your head would spin.

The DC store is a pain in the neck to go to, parking is dicey and expensive, and it takes an hour to get there. Unless I have a reason to be downtown, I’m not going there.

Whoops, ETA, my reading comprehension is off today. I come to TPF because I like reading about Hermes. Sometimes I read the struggle journey posts like watching Gomez Addams crash model trains — irresistible and awful and entertaining all at once. As I said before, the OGs and many, many members are great friends.
Amen to the DC location being a pia. I have only been twice since they relocated due to location. Years back when I lived, worked and shopped in DC, riding the subway carrying a Chanel shopping bag was unsettling. Tyson’s seems safer and tis interesting Chanel left downtown DC for Tyson’s and Hermes did the opposite. . . EB, like you, groveling, hoping for a certain bag is not a game I play. Why bother ramping up frustration?

Cheers!

I love how you describe tPf as a playground and haven. I feel the same way.
