Let's be Honest: What bags do you like, but you're never going to buy/keep?

I'm listening to a youtuber talk about the reasons why a person would buy luxury or designer handbags and I love the questions she poses.
1. Are you buying the bag because you love the design, or because you love and want to emulate the person you like the handbag on?
2. Would you still love the bag if it didn't come with this specific logo? Do you love it for what it is, or do you love it for the luxury image to brings to you?
3. Is this an impulse decision, or is this a bag that truly fits your lifestyle 100 percent and you know you like the handbag for what it is?
4. Are you clear on why you like the bag and why you want it? How will you use it?
5. Bags are a tool. Do you feel comfortable using it or is it so expensive you are too afraid to use it?
6. If you didn't buy this bag, what would you spend with that money instead? What do you value more?
7. What would your life be like if you didn't have that bag?
8. "Useless things are the most expensive, but things that are useful are always the most worth it."

And then the youtuber also quoted someone who said "I can save up for a certain amount of time to afford a luxury handbag, but I cannot pretend to afford the lifestyle owning luxury implies. I would rather work hard and earn my status through my own merit, than to stand on a platform someone else created, to look at a scenery that someone else wants to look at." Poetic, but I think the meaning comes across clearly.

I love contemporary alternatives, please share your handbag collection and best finds! I don't care about logos at all, so I love looking for good quality dupes.

Here’s a group shot of my bags! As you can see, I love my leather. The Tory Burch Kira and the Rebecca Minkoff Edie have both taken my mind off the YSL College Bag, so I'm enjoying my newfound bag peace!

Thank you for sharing those takeaways from the video! I think they're definitely great food for thought for anyone on the fence about a purchase or their spending habits in general. My friend and I were just chatting about designer items and how she used to be such a compulsive shopper. But now we're both much more selective with our purchases, likely due to shifts in priorities, as we both have little ones now.

I respect everyone who goes after their dream Hermes bags and own a Birkin or Kelly, but the cons the youtuber mentioned are big cons to me. It doesn't seem practical at all, it seems bulky and troublesome to use. All in all, it's not for me.

"Let's Be Honest" Okay then: Often, H bashing is because of the cost. It's easy to turn up the nose when the truth is, it wasn't in the cards.

Hobo shapes. I love the look and admire them, but none of them ever seem to work with my arm size/lifestyle. I have had a few over the years and donated/sold all of them.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, I also don't love overly structured bags for myself! I like something with a shape but also a good bit of slouch. Overly structured bags can feel like I'm carrying a Sterilite box on a strap haha and just too rigid for me, though I find myself looking at photos and liking them on others.

I just tried on the YSL loulou bag again, as well as the Celine box bag and Celine triomphe bags. I am going to stop looking at boxy bags because I don't like how they look on me. Same with flap bags, fancy clasps, etc.

However I did try on the Celine Ava with the triomphe monogram canvas and I am going to think about it. XD

I tried on the Coach Kleo Hobo because it looked like the Celine Ava in Triomphe Canvas but when I tried it on, it looked old-fashioned on me. Just didn't suit my style, so I returned it. As for the Celine Ava, I really like the canvas versions, but I prefer using medium bags over small bags, and the Celine Ava only has a shoulder strap! If it came with crossbody straps I would consider it more. I don't want to spend extra money to buy a strap. It's a lot of money for a bag I can't use as much.

I am pretty sure I will never buy any bags from Chanel or Hermès. I feel like those bags represent something that I am not. Not to mention the price points. But I am totally ok with it :amuse:.

I feel the exact same way. It's far more interesting if everyone has different styles and different handbag collections anyway.

I love the look of C GST and G Pandora. Like, LOVE. But the GST is too heavy and the straps are too short whereas the Pandora looks like it would just be a complete mess inside all the time as things slide to the bottom corner.
I don't think I'd go for these even if I was offered them for 200€. They still wouldn't be worth my money. So I will admire them from afar.
